Anime was one of the few things that distracted me from my heavy depression in secondary so I can safely say that is true some of us would have given up if our tv show role models hadn't of said something cheesy but inspiring like "life is hard but it always gets better" "never give up on anything". My role model said to a suicidle main character "you die and it shows you were weak, prove them wrong and live living your best life is the best revenge anyone could do"

Dude, this is my favorite nightcore. It's so perfect. I don't know, I just like it a lot.
This is exactly how I feel about my autism. I can't be one of 'them' and I could well be a 'hero', but not in the way you think. A 'hero' in my head is someone with autism who has the courage to do their OWN thing and not try to fit it. Nobody 'fits' but autistic people (like myself) are like incredibly awkward jigsaw pieces. It takes us a long time to find out how to fit in and make friends. I'm in year 9 and it took me this long to understand I don't have to follow the girls in my school. I feel safe around a teacher and I couldn't do that for fear of being teased. Now I suffer from 'social anxiety' and that's life changing. And I don't BLAME just one person, I blame the people at my school that teased me and told me stupid little comments that I couldn't ignore. I'm afraid sometimes to go into my class, it might be too noisy, too busy, too much, too complex. Maybe, if people looked a bit deeper, they would understand why I suffer now. Exams do NOT help and getting them on a bad day makes my teachers disappointed in me. I'm on the 116th page of my typed up 'novel' but when I did my English EXAM, I only wrote two and half pages of comparing quotes. It was a bad day. Like I mentioned, I am autistic. Maybe that helps me write so well (type) but if you look. My stories, all three, are online on my google docs, not on paper. I couldn't do it on PAPER.
I actually feel the same, sometimes life turns quite exhausting and hard and even disappointing. But I get rid of this feelings expressing them out in my stories. I'd like to read yours, I know it is like something private but I'm interested. ♡

I've had a range of reactions to my aspirations in life. On one end, I got "You'd be the savior of mankind!" and on the other, "That's impossible! NO ONE can do that! I refuse to open my mind to something so ridiculous!".
Being truly different isn't like going to school wearing black. It's like going to school wearing a clown suit. People don't know what to expect, because it's not Standard Rebellion #58 that they know how to deal with and have seen before. They won't say it's a "rebellious phase"; they'll just call your beliefs strange or call your organization cultish or just stop calling you names altogether and look away for fear of becoming part of this strange thing.
When somebody goes into the field of information technology because the want to start a business, they're "strange". But when somebody goes into the field of gerontology because they want to cure mortality, they're, y'know, *actually strange*. Maybe the sort of strange you don't want to be around, or maybe the sort of strange you look up to. That part depends on how accepting you are of new ideas, partially; and partially just on your initial unspoken and unconscious thoughts on the subject.
Now I want to do a sort of internet poll. Please tell me what you think about all this, and tell me what your opinions of my goals are (I want to cure mortality). Good, bad, indifferent, praising, raging, whatever. I want to know.
Also, if there are any other people with the sorts of goals that get you "I refuse to open my mind to something so ridiculous!" reactions, I want to know what they are and what the best and worst reactions to them were.
