I have met a lot of very clever individuals over the years but Adrien's verbalisations are scant testimony to the depth of his comprehension - he's a bloody jewel.
So true! Clever, experienced, and no BS to make himself look good like so many do. The knock against him is I don't know what language he speaks... no idea...
I’m still amazed by Adriens knowledge on Detroits. He’s simply amazing. Just goes to prove that the best mechanics don’t always show up in clean uniforms and driving a fancy truck with graphics all over them. He’s a down to earth guy that knows his stuff.
That's because he's a mechanic not a technician. Those blokes have no idea what to do unless a computer tells them. It could be on fire and if it's not throwing a code they will say it's fine.

I Agree. This Information has been so relatable to many other diesel applications. No wonder why brupeg is getting a Detroit! Keep up the great vids stu.
It would be great to see Adrian and Jennifer go for a run on Renko with you to celebrate the results of all the brilliant work done on the Detroit. Well done everyone.
Not only does he hold a lifetimes worth of knowledge on these diesel engines , he carries it over to us all in a lovely unassuming manner ! ..A real jewel of a guy . Regards from old Blighty.
You know it's the most Australian marine mechanic video ever when it ends with two blokes having a cold coopers and shaving their heads. Fantastic video (and channel). So much good knowledge for those of us that also have old steel boats and Detroits.
What a great way to end a very dismal year!! Adrian should have a UA-cam Channel...between diesel engines and motorcycles he will probably get a lot of subscribers. It works well when he s on screen explaining to another person how things work or fit together etc...Looking forward to it.

I needed this today, thanks. Great to see two friends working together and learning from each other and having a blast doing it. I hope 2021 is better for everyone on Earth.
Has Adrian thought about his own UA-cam channel. Id like the way he explains how things work an would love to watch him restore that bike. I can't wait to see you get that motor in that dinghy.
Yeah I was thinking the same, when it was started after the first rebuild it smoked very badly ! Even the dog knew it wasn't right and ran off ! The mechanics said it was 'normal' and just needed a bit of adjustment, to be fair they did make it better but it shows that Adrian really knows what he's doing with Detroits !
That Detroit now revs as crisply as a brand new bank note! Stu has taken over its mantle as old slapper with that peep hole singlet! And Adrian needs a “Genius At Work” sign above his door. I’ll subscribe to his channel for sure. 👍👍🍻

Man this is one hell of a New Years for me.... Interesting to see how he adjust's all the valves...How he also picked up on how your engine had been in a truck....and had been rebuilt using different parts, not from a motor built specifically for marine applications. I can imagine that a lot of mechanics might not pick up on that, and if they did might not tell the customer.....
It is always a pleasure watching and listening to people who love what they are doing. But most of all, know what they are doing. From a Brit, England.
What a series! So cool to see Adrian^2 when his old man features on the previous as well as many other entertaining bits let alone the informative part. A pleasure to watch this guy swing a hammer.

It's always impressive to see a person as knowledgeable as Adrian working on something. I hope he get a UA-cam channel up and running, it will do well.
Adrian is a virtuoso, he had that motor running sweet. Fascinating series seeing the Detroit come back to life. Happy new year. PS, I thought the ring had a use, lol. PPS, Get yourself a channel Ade.
Adrian, you are clearly a wizard on diesel engines!! The way you fixed all the issues as they came up was great!! Thanks for the Info!! I once owned a GMC bus with a 8v71 in it. Great engine never had any issues with it, water pump -yes, radiator-yes, plugged fuel lines-yes - the engine was strong until I sold it. :)
I'm a commercial fisherman living on Vancouver Island. My boat has a sweet running 653, there are still quite a few DDs getting the job done around here. I had a 471 in my old boat. There's an 83-year-old marine mechanic who lives close by me that knows everything about these engines. He and Adrian would get along well. Nice to have good friends.
She is alive (again)! That sounded so sweet. So a bigger prop is in your future? This is where we find out that Renko is a semi-displacement hull. :) Happy New Year everyone. Better days are ahead.
Stu, your a lucky man to have Adrien as a mate. Besides being an incredible mechanic he is also a great teacher ! He explains things very well and also gives you the why answers as well. The Detroit sounds really good, can hardly wait to see it back in Rinko and running well !!! Thanks Stu for this video, being a gear head my self, I really enjoyed this video !!!
What a great down to earth guy Adrian is. He certainly knows his engines and the sound of that Detroit running was so different to the noise it made when it was first fitted into Renko was very different. You have been very fortunate to know him and have him do the work on this unit. Be good to see him on a you tube channel just as he is. Be interesting to see how Renko goes once this is reinstalled back in. Did I miss the prop being welded on? New shaft and inner bearings once the Detroit is run in?
Excellent video Stu, and if Adrian starts a UA-cam channel, definitely let us know, it’s always interesting watching someone that is that knowledgeable and talented in their craft.
These guys are my kind of mechanics!!!! No brightly lit shop with epoxy floors and $1000 dollar tool chests.... love it, this is way we worked and still do on all tractors, trucks and farm equipment. We would take the used motor oil and treat mangy dogs with it.
Have enjoyed this rebuild with Adrian, more than any other episodes. Adrian is amazing and what a team he and his wife make. Keep up the great videos. Happy New Year from Canada!
Big smile on my face. Adrian is an absolute master mechanic. If I were you Stu and had some extra time I would go work for free now and then just to gain knowledge from him. Adrian would be a smash hit with his own U Tube channel. He has a pleasant personality patient and informative. The Detroit sounds very happy. This was a great video. Stu you did we’ll bringing the engine to him. That’s not taking away from your own knowledge and mechanical abilities Stu your very good also. Best wishes and respects sent. 👍👏
Good to hear it running again, get her back in the boat you will be able to snort on it now Renko will sink down in the stern throwing a good swell off the side while your doing 12 knots. The old Detroit might have enough balls you could put some more pitch in the wheel.
@@DangarMarine About a year ago there was a guy in WA giving away a decent trawler with a Detroit diesel in it that hadn't run for a few years. I almost picked it up but the mooring fees combined with my lack of knowledge as to how to fix the motor prevented me from getting it.
Sounds a lor crisper, I recall the first time it started after the first rebuild it was quite sick sounding and a lot of black smoke. Zero smoke and good throttle response. Boat is definitely going to run better, first thing I thought of was a good prop upgrade for some more top end.
@@nielsdebakker3283 a higher cruise speed at same rpm is achievable with a tuned prop. Assuming this engine produces more torque at the given rpm. Higher top end may be 0.5 - 1 knot.

I’m certainly going to be keeping an eye out for an old one to tinker with.
@@DangarMarine About a year ago there was a guy in WA giving away a decent trawler with a Detroit diesel in it that hadn't run for a few years. I almost picked it up but the mooring fees combined with my lack of knowledge as to how to fix the motor prevented me from getting it.
Adrian: Pulls out a pressure tank, Stu: "Is this cheating?" haha
Man, that Detroit sounds incredible now!
Sounds a lor crisper, I recall the first time it started after the first rebuild it was quite sick sounding and a lot of black smoke. Zero smoke and good throttle response. Boat is definitely going to run better, first thing I thought of was a good prop upgrade for some more top end.
@@bobbuilder5362 Displacement hull, more digging in, more fuel used, no extra speed.
@@nielsdebakker3283 a higher cruise speed at same rpm is achievable with a tuned prop. Assuming this engine produces more torque at the given rpm. Higher top end may be 0.5 - 1 knot.
Adrian is a master mechanic hands down, the complete opp. of a DD mechanic we have in the States..
It sounds fit if that makes sense really crisp, think Adrien has done you proud 👍🍻
Adrian is not a mechanic, he is a Maestro! A fascinating instructional.
Happy new year everyone. Let’s hope 2021 turns out to be a better year. 🙏
Amen brother.
Right,we need a better year here in the us.. ugh
listening to Adrian really brought back memories of my time in Diesel mechanic school 83-84 engines class. The last 2 SMOKE Detroit I touched was an 8V 92 on a test stand at school.
I had no worries on that engine firing up. Sounds good, and looks good. Happy New Year!
