  • My Honda CT70 Clone (Ice Bear Champion) upgrade project has been fun and helped take my mind off of politics for awhile! I’ve learned from so many who have taken the time to share their knowledge and advice in online groups, so I’m trying to “pay it forward” with a video of my own.
I talk about the following (in order of appearance): ZS190 engine and making it fit; mounting the oil cooler; turn signal upgrade; LED headlight upgrade, wiring details, and how it looks at night; new tires; raising/mounting the front fender; folding bar end mirrors; exhaust/muffler upgrade; ZS190 star gear retaining washer; mounting a milk crate on back rack; Honda decals; thoughts on stock carburetor; engine startup; and “paying it forward” with gospel conversations on my UA-cam channel at / jeffreiman .
UPDATE: FOUND OUT ON LONG NIGHT RIDE THAT STAT COULD NOT KEEP BATTERY CHARGED WITH HEADLIGHT HOOKED UP DIRECTLY TO BATTERY. In the end, I went back to AC power. I had seen a video someone posted that showed some bad flickering, but on my zs190 engine it really only flickers badly at low idle, and I needed to increase idle rpms a little bit anyway. LED headlight works great at running rpms.
UPDATE #2 - LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES! In the video I mounted the front fender about 3 inched down from the top of the fork. Looks nice, but when braking and compressing the front fork springs, the wheel rubs against the fixed fender, which it would do if the fender was up higher. This is dangerous because on a very fast stop this will lock up the front wheel and the rider flies over the handlebars, which I did during my road test! I'm going to change it either near the top of the fork or back to original
UPDATE #3. So I'm betting that the oil cooler that came with my zs190 in my Icebear Champion doesn't make up the difference for the air flow it would block from the engine's cooling fins. I decided not to use it after all. I mounted my front fender halfway up in the fork ( mounted to lower half so it moves with the wheel, not fixed to the top of the fork; I learned the hard way when front tire locked up against the fender during a quick stop, sending me into orbit) and didn't feel I had room for the oil cooler anyway. Just to be on the safe side though, I mounted a Bosch oil temperature gage to an aluminum bar extended between the handlebar tightening bolts, so I can monitor engine oil temp in real time.
