She is right Trent. You have to own this one!
Allie is right you don't want water in those lines until the garage is insulated and complete especially in winter. Trying to heat that huge garage incomplete is going to cost you a fortune. Sorry.
So sorry you have frozen pipes. Been there. Trent, you make too many risky decisions. You really need to listen to Ally more often. She is a practical voice. You design a system to drain...don't overlook that step!
I wonder if an electrical heater can be used to keep that section of the garage above freezing? Does it NEED to be propane?! Just thinking out loud, here.
@@michellelefurge3296 Right? Former Vanlifers that don’t know how to design a water system that drains or don’t know how to drain a water system? !! Never forget your roots!
Self limiting electrical heating trace tape wrapped on the pipe and fittings solves the problem. Can be used on various materials from copper to plastics. Been in use for years. Do not understand not being used as it is readily available.
@@Treefarmer1984 heat tape and pipe insulation will help. The main problem is that there is a lot of pipe to wrap.
Well done Dean...backing up our Lady
Allie 100% correct. She was looking out for family's wellbeing! Trent had drained the pipes as she requested there would have been no stress.
There’s no excuses necessary if ya drain your pipes, no reasoning with your thought processing Trent!
Amazing what is said and what a guy hears.
As a former facility manager for a couple of summer camps, save yourself from freezing pipes by installing a valve with a fitting to connect an air line to you water pipes. This will allow you to blow the water out of the pipes easily. Also pour some rv antifreeze into all your drain p-traps.
That's our strategy for our 9600 ft elevation cabin. For yrs we heated it over winter, but 🤑.
Can’t believe Trent didn’t include any method to drain the water pipes during rough in. Freezing is a given in the mountains. He’s lived there for how long? My house is at 8000’ in the High Sierras. I have a main water shutoff in the basement and valves to drain hot and cold water lines. Also have heat tape on the incoming water line . No freezing problems in 25 years.
We sometimes had a problem with water in a low spot in the pipes freezing. I planned on pumping rv antifreeze through the pipes. Then blowing that out and recycling it to the next building
This is exactly what I did for my home, for oh shit emergencies like this.
A sign of maturity is knowing when to take responsibility for what you do and being man enough to admit when you are wrong. This problem was easy to avoid with knowing how frost works. Also those garage heater are guzzlers.
who could have forseen this, it's not like they destroyed their whole camper already by freezing all the pipes.. and it's not like they had a waterline outside in winter without insulation and had it freeze multiple times.. and it's not like the pipes in the garage already froze before.. jesus christ.
Wow Trent had to get the last word in about the frozen pipes ( Heat vs draining pipes)😂
I was so excited for Allie to get to put her vehicle in the garage when it was finished...😞☹️ sad for her when Trent took over the whole garage..😞☹️
My thoughts exactly! Trent is going to have the man cave, the part where the vechicle he is working on, and the part next to that so he can work. That leaves only one part of a four-car garage where they can park a car. I think Allie should be able to park in that spot. I think sometimes she does.
The huge garage and she is still having to shovel snow from her car. What a joke. I wouldn’t be happy at all.
@@janemarner7092 With out him there is no show.. Nobody actually comes here for Allie's camera work, DUH
You should always have a way to drain a system to winterize it, like summer cottages do all the time.
Trent your not always right!!! Just admit Ally was right. Jeez.
Trent should have listened to Allie and drained the pipes, and then after he didn’t listen and the pipe froze he should have admitted his error .
I don’t know that it should be a surprise to anyone that you are running low on propane. Kind of think how you would handle that should have been figured out last fall but Trent does not do well on planning ahead. You are going to need a second tank or find a different way to heat the McMansion garage.
@@Suz9006, he just needs to take into account what Allie thinks. Women can be wise, may as well factor them in! ;-)
Yep, definitely remember Allie saying "drain the system" in the last vid! 🤪
Allie was correct 👍😁 When will she have her yoga room & office as the ‘man cave’ seems to be the priority? This is an equal partnership! 🤗 Leo is just the cutest baby with his own personality & sometimes cheeky smile! ❤️
Happy Friday- give it up Trent ! Draining the pipes when it’s that cold still the safer bet - priorities - I’d rather drain pipes than run out of propane - it’s that simple
Why didn't you drain the pipes?
I love when you learn from the mistakes. That will make enjoying your home even more rewarding!
Have you considered adding a second propane tank for a backup? We have two tanks and when one runs out it’s switched to the second tank.
I think they might have to, their current tank is obviously not big enough to work for both the house and garage for the whole winter.
@@elaexplorer and to think in the future when the dumacrats make propane and all fossil fuels extinct he will have to change the whole system over to battery with solar array setup like Josh & Erin did on WWOG channel.
Should have done it now I guess.
Leo is getting so big! That little grin just melts me heart 🥰
Why don't you install a low point drain on your waterline? Cottages in Canada and RVs have them to easily winterize a line so it doesn't freeze/burst.
Listen to your wife next time, Trent! I wanna see Kelly get that propane there! Leo has the twinkles in his eyes, he’s loving life! Happy your parents are visiting!
Hey ya'll;; Trent, why didn't you drain the water lines before they freeze? you can always pressure rise them later..
For years I have been watching with amazement your ability to problem solve and make things work. Not draining the water lines was not a good idea.
I love seeing what is going on with Mountain Made Vans!
Allie, the voice of reason. That aerial shot of your home showed how much snow you have around your property.
Best wishes to all of you, stay safe, from Mike. ❤
Trent’s Mr pessimistic! thank God for Allie, She has the greatest attitude
Learned the frozen stuff as a kid. It ain’t rocket science. Good call Allie!!
I would put in a wood stove or get a couple electric radiators to run up in garage apartment and one downstairs. Or a couple kerosene heaters.
Remember Trent, Allie is always right, happy wife, happy life.
DONT BELIEVE THAT NONSENSE HAPPY WIFE HAPPY LIFE, HAPPY HUSBAND GREAT LIFE, REMEMBER U ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYONES HAPPYNESS BUT UR OWN....
Great idea with wood stove. Also would definitely save propane. Buy some electric heaters.
@@Suz9006 Dear Susan, great idea! I have had base board heaters. They could put one in front of the window upstairs.
Love seeing Leo, such a happy child.
Trent, it takes a big man to admit what they should have done. It’s ok to say sorry and move on
Allie the Boss was right. you should have drained the pipes Trent. you are so lucky to have Dean helping you. it will be good to get some insulation as soon as you have had the inspection. so good to see Leo with his grandparents. they are great people.
Your Delta shower valve isn't broken. The cartridge for it should still be in the box along with the rest of the trim. By the time you're ready to trim out the shower, just slide in the cartridge and it will work just fine. That Grey plastic plug that broke is just temporary and gets thrown away when you trim the shower later on in the build.
Thank you for including us
I kept thinking someone will pull the battery out of the drill instead of talking about not pressing the trigger.
Regarding low propane. We are hauling smaller bottles of Propane and hooked into the system, bypassing the larger storage tank until we can get a delivery again.
Here's the thing. If Trent drained the pipes WEEKS ago like Allie asked then all that propane would not have been wasted AND there would be no frozen pipes.
Trent doesn't mind making Allie look bad when if he listened to her in the first place there would never be a problem.
I'm thinking maybe Trent has a hard time excepting advice from Allie. She really could have saved him this time. But hey it's fun watching Allie gloat and say I TOLD YOU SO! Haha And then the cherry on top was Dean saying I think I remember Allie saying someone should have drained the pipes yesterday .haha that was funny. Bro-code didn't work for Trent in that case.
Trent’s been doing hard labor for 2 years. Allie could have learned and helped, like Erin from Josh in Wild Wonderful Off Grid. She builds, home schools 3 kids, and edits at night.
I’ve done hard physical labor for months, and sometimes at the end of the day you’re overwhelmed with exhaustion and you’ll literally say screw it, I’m too tired and I’ll chance it.
If I’ve been working all day and someone is barking me orders that just stood around, I wouldn’t be as inclined to listen.
You forget that Trent has done almost everything, and Allie could easily help. Especially now with an unnecessary babysitter.
Wild wonderful off grid doesn’t have a helper or babysitter, and built a massive A frame house and are remodeling an AirBnB.
Erin even did framing and concrete with Josh. Erin did insulation, drywall, everything. Alongside Josh.
There was a point when she didn’t know how to do things, but she learned from her husband.
Go watch them then instead of insulting her. Not everybody's the same and her helping wouldn't change the fact that Allie told Trent weeks before and several times to drain the pipes. He chose not to listen and wasted fuel and pipes froze.
She's the smart one and works hard. He works hard and is smart. They are who they are and if you like the other ones so much just go there. BTW. I watched 2 videos of theirs and found no personality or connection to them so I don't watch. So just go away if you have something ignorant to say about Allie
BTW nobody cares what you do or how hard you work. It's all blablabla one you insulted Allie
Trent - When I was in a RV trailer in eastern PA that was hooked to 120gal propane tank it came close to running out. Tractor supply was 3 miles away. I used 2, 7.5 gal tanks (15gal/trip) to fill the 120 gal tank.
Trent, I have a barnamenium that only gets visited every few month. Due to winter I dont line left with water left in them. We created a drain system for winterization every time we leave. It has been thru years of trial and error it has preform wonderfully. I created a cut off that also drains our well tank since dont want well tank to break either. Good luck
Mountain Made Vans always fun to watch. As for frozen pipes, poop happens, agree pipes being drained was necessary, But beating up Trent is not necessary. He is a good husband, father and Allie is a good wife and mother. Cut them some slack..they share their lives with us and there will be disagreements, that’s life. Love you guys.
Guys, soon as weather breaks and propane truck can make it up the hill, I suggest installing a separate tank for the garage. That way, you maintain enough for the house, independent of the garage, so next winter, when necessary, drain the pipes, shut off lp gas for garage, maintain comfort in house
I love the way you film the "opportunities" some would call them disasters. But thanks to this channel you are filming the same mistakes other couples could make, and then how you overcome those mistakes. The frozen lines are classic... and in my family, I would be the guilty one of procrastinating on emptying the lines. :-) Sorry Trent, you and I are too much alike. On days like that, just smile and remind your wife how blessed you are to be married to such a patient woman. 🙂
Boy Allie… Is Trent always that hardheaded about admitting he might be wrong??? Don’t give in to him! It will only get worse the longer you are married! If you run out of propane in the house then those pipes can freeze also.
It's gotten worse just in the time I've been watching them. There are no limits to his ego
@@mtnlovr8936I wonder if it's gotten worse, or she's just gotten sick of being treated that way, so decided to start showing it more in the videos? She, after all, does the editing, so she has total control of what we see. Either, or, I'm glad she's showing us more of the true Trent. Maybe, when he sees that it was clear to all of us how wrong he was, he'll start trying to change. But I'm not holding my breath for that to happen. And, as someone else said, if he acts that way, when he knows the camera is on, no telling how he treats her when it's off! Allie does not deserve his disrespect like that! 😥
@@charlotte50224Just look at that new garage... Not even finished yet and its all filled with Trents junk car parts while his wife's car sets outside in the elements.
@@charlotte50224 If you look back to the videos during the pandemic when they were staying at his mothers you see a whole different abusive Trent. Allie started editing the hell out of the videos after that.
Thanks for taking us along to Mountain Made Vans for the latest updates. It’s great to see everything going on and especially great seeing Allies parents with Leo. Nothing like grandparents, they’re the best!!!
Allie, it would be fun to see a video of some of Leo’s daily routines. He is so interesting and a joy to watch. He makes me happy😊
I ENJOY ALL OF Your PROJECTS, BOTH THE HOUSE BUILD AND THE VAN BUILDS.
Trent is clearly still new at the marriage thing; the wife is always right dude. Drain the system man, "Chop it and we will figure it out later."
Brent, very sorry you are scared of your wife. Man up dude! Wives are not always right. You got the wrong head doing your thinking. Learn how to cook, learn how to clean and take back the TV remote.
@@roberta4989 Wives are not always right, but the wife was absolutely right in this situation.
I ❤️ it when Dean shows up and you can “ divide and conquer “….. it’s AMAZING what more can be accomplished in one day with an extra pair of hands along with A LOT of expertise!
And little Leo learning to use utensils….how Absolutely ADORABLE!!!🥰
The look Leo gave that fork was so knowing and funny! He's a character.
Just realized that Dean is getting Trent's ducks in a row! 😃😃
Ally was right!! Love van build stuff!
Thanks for not catastrophizing. Things like the pipes freezing are annoying, but just part of life's many minor annoyances! The little niggles between you are funny [and good humoured]! Thanks!
Trent you Allie may want to invest in a outdoor wood furnace in the spring that would supply heat to both your home and garage. I've notice Al and Gina of Lumnah Acres have one as well as Joe of Northern Seclusion. It makes a big difference and saves propane for them. Also listen to Allie. 😂
Good morning everyone! It’s great to see Dean, Brandon, and the guys at the shop! Allie, I believe your parents will be moving to Utah pretty soon. I live 7 minutes from my 20 month grandson and I am loving the time I get to spend with him💙! Have a great weekend and Trent, I love watching van’s being built. Hopefully, I can get you to complete a built design I have for my nonprofit! 💜🦋🦋
All on you Trent. Obviously the system should have been drained.
I would have had such a different opinion of Trent had he said..Allie, you were right I should have listened to you last night!
Seems like his ego is taking over so I’m going to take a break for awhile. Allie, you are a saint. ❤️
Me too... Again. I took a year off when Trent got so abusive when they were living with his mom.
Trent get over freezing of your pipes, your ultimately responsible, your the man of the house. For winters like you have what about little propane heaters in garage like my buddy.we have heated our basement, and house with them when have no power to keep our water from freezing.
It was very kind of you to make the room and welcome your dad to come our home. How thoughtful to even think of pantry and bathroom room for him!

You could get foam pipe wraps that makes it a lot safer in the cold and they come in all sizes and different thicknesses. And or you could get heat tapes that are electric. Stay safe and warm
I love watching the van builds, it’s how I stumbled upon your channel a couple years ago! Mountain Made Vans, Trent & Allie, Tents garage, it’s all good! Thank you for always taking us along! 🥰👍🏻
On the water pipes Allie was right the water should have been drained weeks ago all you had to do was cut that line. They do have 100 lb LP tanks either buy or your LP dealer should have them to rent, you could have used them in the garage on portable heaters
Definitely need to drain..the two things go to Walmart an buy a compression fitting for rv’s it has compression fitting on one end and a regular fitting for a 5/8 hose female or male hose line either use a waher hose line or a scrap end of hose. Once you do that you can blow out your lines in15 minutes. Shut I believe you already have.
"cut the line", it was a no brainer man when it froze awhile back! Too much time worry about your truck rebuild! :) It sucks for sure, good luck on the cleanup, replacement and keep up the good work, always fun to see what's going on.
After checking for leaks after install, why did you not drain the system?
Hey Trent, over here in the UK most mortgage providers will not lend against a property which has spray foam insulation. We have major studies to show that the foam induces condensation which then rots your timber and framework. Our regulation for a cold roof systems keeps 50mm of airflow between the underside of the roof and the insulation which then allows crossflow throughout.
loving the plumbing :)
That's interesting. The house already has spray foamed ceiling and it is a superior choice (and slightly more expensive) as far as insulation goes. It may be that the spray foam you have over there is different than what we have here. The UK bans substances based on could a problem occur and the US only bans on the probability that a problem will occur which makes yours a bit more restrictive
The climate in Utah is semi-arid. The UK is notoriously moist.😏 Building codes are pretty strict and would not allow for that insulation if it caused any problems.
Yeah, it’s been perplexing to me to see how many UA-cam DIYers go for spray foam. I’ve always been warned against it for a slew of reasons.
@@ksyrahsyrah4983 unfortunately rain is not the only factor in condensation, the issue arises when warm air from inside the house penetrates through and meets the cold surface. The issue we have seen is that foam can allow for cold bridging and thus causing condensation which is then trapped between the foam and roof with no where to go.
Trent’s rules. There’s his way or the wrong way. Big reason I’m moving on. Good luck y’all.
Trent, Trent, Trent. Even as a woman who grew up in Southern California, i know you have to drain the water lines in freezing weather. I have to take Allie's side on this one. But you're still a wonderful man and hubby.
You would be amazed at how well a pot belly stove works at keeping off the chill in a garage. No propane used, no frozen pipes; just several well placed log's in a pot belly stove and problem solved. Farmers in the mid west plains area have been doing it for years.🤠
Trent's Mum, time to have a word or two to your boy!! 😊 💌 💫👍 Hope you are doing well there Gloria. Cuddles for Oso 🐶
Trent, listen to your wife. If you don’t, own it when things go wrong. She’s one smart lady!!
Allie, the cartoonish intro looks amazing! How the heck did you do that? Pretty neat I must say! Love your vids!
One friendly suggestion: make a ladder and trap door from the garage up to the apartment (utility room/closet) in case anything ever goes wrong with the door/balcony main apartment entrance.
That's a great idea. Kinda like an attic door - perhaps with an attached ladder, if they make them that long.
They already have one, or at least one planned. They will have an access to the water heater and furnace, which they can put a ladder to just like they are doing now. Just does not sound like it will be a permanent attached ladder, but that is not really needed for a what if situation that likely will not happen. When you can use any ladder for if that ever happens.
The drone footage of your home is amazing! Like a fairytale, just beautiful. Sorry about those pipes.
Trent and Allie, I saw this on Facebook and couldn’t resist sending it to you! In regards to Leo talking. I think this should come with babies! We have had freezing problems for years for the water line going to the outdoor livestock and since we started leaving the faucets running all the time we have not had any issues. Not full on, but depending upon the temperature, anything from just dripping to a pretty good solid stream for below zero. Hope you can get some propane delivered soon. That’s a pretty tough situation!! Praying for you!!

A new drinking game…every time Allie says ‘I told you to drain the water’ 😂🤣😂
Give it up, Trent.
I can only imagine the behind-the-scenes disagreements. Trent sees time all around him and Allie sees time in the future. A perfect match for success until something doesn’t align. My heart goes out to both of you as you find the balance in everything you do.

Leo is lucky to have Virginian Grandparents! Have to be on Allie's side in regards to having the pipes drained before you cut that heat off. I know there's going to be such relief when that snow pack and ice bergs begin to melt and disappear for a change. What a season coming up hey?
So Trent has now heard from more than a thousand people that he was wrong. I think he got the message. I'm also pretty sure that when the garage build is finished Allie will have a spot there for her giant truck. They are a loving couple and probably have each other's best interests at heart. I love following you two/three in your journey. ❤
I guarentee Trent is taking it all very well.He knows he goofed it up and Allie was right.
He didn't want to mess up his beautiful plumbing job but ended up having to cut a couple pipes anyways.
Hes paying for it now.The abuse is running rampant in these posts LOL
Yeah Ally & Dean - draining system was a good idea - sorry Trent not fun conditions to be dealing with during your extra heavy snow accumulations over your winter - this too will pass not easy - but the new holes to the mancave probably contributed to max air coming in - can you not wrap or put put pipe slit foam and partial box up or board up the insulation around around your furnace temporarily while you get through the worst of your winter before your 4 way inspection?
Solutions are always better before the problem then after the problem! Seems there were options before the problem!
