It is defiance against God. Numbers 15:28-31 also define what sin not unto death is, that being sin that is committed in ignorance. This is what Hebrews 10:26-27 also endorses, as well as many other scriptures. The problem here is that when you hear this you feel angered and get quite upset, because you believe that you are already saved and you know that you still commit sin. This is because you have never truly been converted in the biblical way, because very few churches are teaching conversion properly. Acts 2:38 explains an overview of conversion, as does Romans 6. The problem is that most churches never tell you that you enter into covenant with God when you convert, and that a covenant is a contract of which both parties involved have certain responsibilities and benefits. There is also the fact that repentance and baptism are usually also being falsely taught. Not understanding the terms of a contract prevents you from lawfully entering into it. Not understanding what repentance is or the purpose of baptism also prevents you from receiving the benefit of a true conversion, of which is the remission of your sins. With the remission of sins comes freedom from sin, where slavery of sin is broken. Repentance is Godly sorrow unto true reformation. This means that after a true conversion, you do not ever choose to do what you know is wrong. Remember, defiance is unpardonable. To understand this in short explanation is to focus on the word "sin", that sin the writer of Hebrews referring to is not adultery, murder, lying, stealing, sexual perversions or anything done by the flesh (although the bible teaches us to escape from all these things but these can be all confessed over and over and over again, but always remember that these acts have consequences) but instead the sin of deliberate rejection of Christ's ultimate sacrifice.
You are wrong, any sin is sin. The willful acceptance and indulgence of sin after the spirit revealing to you that it's wrong is what the writer means by it all. I love you, I want your walk with Christ to be succesful to the end and I don't want you to spread misinformation either. The text is very clear. It uses the Greek Present Tense, which is DURATIVE and ONGOING in Greek Grammar. It refers to continuing in sin after knowing the truth . And for anyone who continues in sin there remains no more sacrifice for sin, also in the ONGOING Greek Present Tense. This has NOTHING to do with Jews rejecting the sacrifice of Christ and EVERYTHING to do with Christians who turn aside to sin. Consider the evidence within the text: - Firstly, ..."If WE SIN ...... " He uses the first person plural pronoun. He includes himself and his readers. He here warns believers that if we are wilful sinning there stands no more sacrifice for sins. - Secondly, notice his words are a direct allusion to Numbers 15:30, 31. Numbers 15 deals with every kind of sin in the people of God. But finally, wilful , presumptuous son is dealt with. And under Moses it received the death penalty to remind the people that "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23) and that "All who do such things are worthy of death" (Romans 1:32). The text is very clear and it agrees with all the prophets (see: Deuteronomy 32:32-36; Ezekiel 33:13, Hosea 13:9; Isaiah 1:19, 20 ) and the warnings of the Lord himself (Luke 9:62; Matthew 10:33; Matthew 24:42) along with His holy Apostles (Romans 8:13; 11:20-22). But the writer to the Hebrews makes it very clear that his allusion is to numbers chapter 15. He states as much in verse Heb. 10:28 "He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses" And immediately applied it to Christians in verse 29: "Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?" Because there is remaining no sacrifice for sins for such persons who insult the Spirit of Grace and trample the blood of Christ. It’s not about “losing it” it is about maintaining the stewardship of the gift of faith which saves us, not about any works. If we fall into habitual sin practices ( see 1 John and Heb chapter 6&10) it can cause us to lose faith and fall into unbelief which is terminal.

Yes it does, the preceding two verses show the context of "we" to not only be Christians, but those who regularly gather together. Furthermore, The remainder of the chapter urges the very same to not cast away their confidence and to recall their former youth as in their days of old in the faith. It is taken out of context 99% of the time. It was written for the Hebrews under the reinstated old covenant which will fade out as the new fades in. Heb. 8:6-13 The law will be written on their hearts. The word LAW should scream, it is for Jews because we are not under the law and we do not have a blood line like the Jews. That is incorrect. You can emotionally and mentally fight sin, or you can stave off your own conscience and willfully sin. That means that you do it without feeling bed, without having a desire to NOT do it. You need to clearly feel that "God does not want me to do this" and then say to yourself "Na, I want to do it and I'm going to do it anyway". This is willful sin.
I have found that every sin I have ever committed was done so deliberately - in rebellion of what I know is the better choice. Isn’t all sin deliberate?
Falling from grace means going to the law to be justified apart from Christ. It's not about if you've sinned too much. Your feelings don't indicate whether the Holy Spirit is in you or not. Keep believing and the Love of Jesus and forgiveness through the cross will set you free from guilt which will set you free from sin. You are forgiven.

I feel guilty for studying hvac to make more money so that I can make a living and not have to depend on anyone. I enjoy your explanation, but i cant say i fully agree. Hebrews 10, much like Hebrews 6, is addressing believers, not unbelievers. The passage is a warning to those who treat the blood of the covenant "by which they were sanctified" a common (unholy) thing. The whole book of Hebrews establishes Christ as our perfect high priest and mediator of a perfect covenant. It includes encouragement to cling to our faith and boldly approach God throne. But it also includes warnings not to harden our hearts, fall away, or reject Christ. The warnings are very clear and line up directly with other scripture passages such as Galatians 5. Paul tells the church in Galatia that they must not use tue freedom in Christ as an opportunity for the flesh. Paul lists the fruits of the flesh, and then says in 5:21 that those "who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God" Paul and the writer of Hebrews are both talking to Christians and warning them that returning to a life of willful, unrepentant sin leads to a loss of inheritance. This is why the entire bible gives warnings not to be deceived, not to be swayed by false doctrine, to control our tongues and bodies, and study to show ourselves approved. The entire purpose is to make our lives conform to Christ. A life that does not conform to Christ will not inherit the kingdom. I would love to talk with you more about this as it has been a big topic of study for me lately.
The Bible says that if we continue to go on sinning, we don’t know Him/are considered liars and the truth is not in us. Put to death your sin, and hold fast to your confession of faith. If we do not let go of our sin, that is to repent, then, what faith are we claiming to have? I myself have sinned, willfully sense, my confession of faith in Christ Jesus. But if we do not repent, the truth was never in us to begin with.
That's what backsliding is. When one backslides, there needs to be repentance and a turning away from the rebellion and God in His grace and mercy will welcome us back. But yes, one can commit the unpardonable sin by ignoring the still soft voice of the Holy Spirit.

Learned this many years ago under you guys . It is so sad that on every post on forums regarding eternal security this verse along with Hebrews 6:4-6 is there so called silver bullet that destroys eternal security. However, all one has to do is study the verses and passages in light of the context. Instead they use these verses out of context and in isolation as a narrative. There other point is that sanctified in Hebrews 10 refers to a believer who lost there salvation by rejecting Christ. My response is that sanctified doesn’t always mean saved. The example of the unsaved spouse in 1 Corinthians 7:14 experienced all the blessing being under the umbrella of a Godly spouse. Same in the church where unsaved professing believers experience all the benefits of a Godly Body of believers.

If you compare 4:4-6 and 10:26-29 you will notice that the context is one who apostatizes. That is the context of these scriptures. Both of these passages describe fully a born-again believer in Jesus. There is no other reasonable conclusion one can draw that these are not believers in the Lord Jesus. 4:6 clearly says the believer "falls away". 10:29 clearly says the believer "has trodden underfoot the Son of God". Their end is the same..

Hello. Can you give me a hand, please? Does Hebrews 10:26 teach that you can not repent of unbelief if you stopped believing after salvation or commit an inward sin against the Holy Spirit?
Speaking of the person who trampled the Blood of JESUS, and was worthy of a worse punishment than anyone who broke one of Moses' laws....the Scripture reads that this person was "sanctified". Only a true Christian or Believer can ever be considered sanctified. Sanctified means Holy and Set-Apart unto GOD. So the person was, indeed, a Believer who, by his willful sin, trampled and counted as worthless the Blood of JESUS that previously made him sanctified and holy by Salvation.
Some Bible Preachers teach that this is a Hyperbole, sarcastically said to make a point...'For if' kinda situation. How do you reconcile that teaching from what you teach, especially when the passage says that they were once enlightened and partakers of the Holy Spirit, having tasted of the Heavenly gift if I have it right. I see the word in the KJV 'tasted' here and in Hebrews 6:4-6 I believe, and then in another Scripture I looked up but forgot about. All seeming to refer to salvation, having tasted, having been partakers, having been enlightened. Speaking to actual salvation, and therefore losing it if you have it. And even though some parts of what you are saying makes sense, can you specify your reasoning from the original language that would make you believe that the word 'Deliberately' or 'willfully' 'Sin' is not a type of Greek or Hebrew word or phrase or cultural idiom that suggests all or any sin but a specific sin? How do you rebuttle the teaching that Hebrews 6:4-6 and 10:26 onward is purely sarcastic and hyperbolic in nature to make a point? I am a Christian, and Scripturally and logically I believe we can't lose the salvation we have in Jesus Christ, but then we have to deal with verses like this that are tricky, and it causes many to stumble. So the actual Holy Spirit inspired interpretation needs to be known, always.
You said of the writer's audience, "they were rejecting the gospel of Jesus". Are you saying the writer of Hebrews was NOT writing to Christians, but unbelievers? That doesn't hold up at all, considering all of his other statements in the immediate context and throughout the letter. Also, why would he warn not to "throw away your confidence" (35), if it is impossible to do so?

Related to 10:26, in the previous verse he said, “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, but exhorting one another...” Then he says, “FOR if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins.” Is he addressing unbelievers, while including himself? No, he is writing to Christians who are beginning to backslide! The message of the book from start to finish is to declare Christ’s supremacy and based on that, encourage the wavering Christian to “hold fast”, “draw near”, and “run with endurance”!

"Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let US press on to maturity, not laying AGAIN a foundation of repentance from dead works and of FAITH toward God, of instruction about washings, and laying on of hands, and the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this WE shall do, if God permits." The author includes himself ("us" and "we"). In 4-6, he does not change "audience" (i.e. who he is writing TO). He changes who he is writing ABOUT. This is an important distinction. In other words, the writer does not believe his readers are already in the category of those who have fallen away after being enlightened - he is warning them not to be like "those" (apostates). He is writing TO believers (who are wavering in their faith) ABOUT those who have already fallen away, and he does not want them to fall away too. He then contrasts the fruitful and the unfruitful in 7-8. In verse 9, he does not change audience, but expresses confidence in his brethren that they will not fall away. That's the entire message of Hebrews in a nutshell. Jesus is the only way of salvation, so remain faithful! 10-12: "For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

You'll need to correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you're saying this warning is addressed to non-believers, or Jews who have never believed and are eternally condemned. While I certainly agree that these verses do NOT teach that a believer can lose his salvation, I do believe that these warning passages are addressed to Jewish believers who have eternal life. If we read a little further down in verses 32 - 36, he is telling this same group of people about when they were in the light, endured during times of great conflict and suffering, and were publicly ridiculed and persecuted. It also says in those earlier days that they joyfully endured the confiscation or spoiling of their goods and possessions knowing they had a greater and more permanent possession promised to them as a result. We know that people don't suffer for the sake of receiving the free gift of eternal life. The author is telling the Jewish Christian audience in verse 35 to keep the confidence they have and they will be greatly rewarded. Reading from these passages, we can certainly conclude the warning passages from verses 26 -29 are addressed to Jewish believers who already possess eternal life in which they cannot lose. What they stand to lose if they return to the old covenant way of doing things according to 32 - 36 is eternal reward in the next life. The fiery indignation punishment mentioned in the warning is of both temporal and eternal judgment of God, not of losing eternal life, but of losing this temporal life we're in now as well as eternal reward which we're promised if we persevere in that faith. By the way, I love the ministry you do. We need more teachers in the world that teach the truth in regards to the gospel and the simplicity of how to be given eternal life. Thank you for what you do. Happy Day While it is true that the text is plainly addressed to the Jews; these Jews are believers of the same faith as the Gentile Christians. Jews and Gentile believers in Christ have been all confered into one Spirit of faith (see 1 Corinthians 12:13).

My take is that these are absolutely believing Christians who are already in possession of eternal life and the judgements in view are not about eternal destiny but about severe judgements that would take place in this temporal life.
You may be right but the recipients (audience) of Hebrews are uncertain but Jewish Christians may be the audience. BUT it is clear that in HEBREWS the Writer is referring to in (SIN) meaning Rejecting the Ultimate sacrifice of JESUS so if you are talking about those Jewish this passage means. That they didn't really beleive inspite of the knowledge of Truth without believing there's no sacrifice, therefore Hebrews 10:26 - 27 doesn't mean that Salvation can be lost, but rather warning those who are in Jewish Christian community that they should live in absolute truth for JESUS is the Truth, so therefore there is no problem with Hebrews 10:26.
I know a man who believes and teaches the same thing. He leads a small house church and teaches the men in his church that they can cheat on their wives…if they want to. Technically speaking, he’s right. If salvation cannot be lost, then we can do whatever we want…with impunity.
A person who sins in such deliberate way, not caring about the tremendous work of Jesus on the cross, not having in mind the weight of sin, does not have genuine faith in Jesus, so that person hasn’t been actually saved

However, we are warned over and over in scripture against breaking the covenant with Him. These are the warnings that OSAS believers attribute to those who are not saved. But if you understand what a covenant is, then you will understand that those warnings are for us.
you reading from a text that says, "who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified "them".....that gives an entirely different meaning than a text that says, " wherewith "he" was sanctified". To be sanctified by the blood of the covenant means "he" was a believer (born-again) and yet now "he" is going to suffer a much more sorer punishment than those who died under Moses law. This proves that a believer in Christ who apostatizes will be rejected by Christ and lost.

For me, I feel that God is looking for us to understand something deeper when reading this verse. For instance, you have to set up litmus tests to see if what it seems to say really is what it means. For instance, I become saved.........and then I look at a girl, deliberately with lust in my heart for a hot second. That seems to suffice for this verse's meaning. But come on! That is TOO EASY. Therefore, there must be more to it. What also brings me to this conclusion is that example was RIDICULOUS, and we do not praise a ridiculous god. We praise an all powerful LOGICAL God. So there must be more to this...
This is only a partial explanation of Hebrews chapter 10. Although I agree with the beauty of what Jesus did through his sacrifice this was only a very partial explanation of chapter 10 so it doesn’t really give you the whole context of what is being addressed in this chapter. It doesn’t really answer the question in the title if you take the whole chapter into consideration. This chapter is specifically speaking to those that have followed Christ and the warning not to drawback. The danger with most of the teachings that I listen to is they only teach on one or two scriptures without bringing in the whole context of the chapter and what the book was dealing with and then in light of what the whole Bible teaches. It seems to me that so much teaching and learning is based out of me deciding what I believe and then I just interpret the Scriptures through the filter of what I already believe.

Ephesians says that we who have been redeemed can now do good works: (Ephesians 2:10) “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus ⭐️to do good works⭐️, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Then the author of Hebrews recommends provoking one another to do those good works: (Hebrews 10:24) ““And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to ⭐️good works⭐️:” The author of Hebrews also suggests that his audience are those who have confessed Christ: (Hebrews 10:23) “Let us ⭐️HOLD FAST THE CONFESSION⭐️ of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Having established that-look at what he says next: (Hebrews 10:26) “If we ⭐️DELIBERATELY⭐️ keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, Now-if OSAS were true…that kind of warning would make no sense. Yes it does, and is in harmony with Ezekiel 18:24. Quite clear. If a righteous man turns and does unrighteousness and commits iniquity shall he live? ALL HIS righteousness shall NOT be remembered and in his sin that he has sinned he shall DIE. Hebrews does tell us that there remains NO MORE SACRIFICE, which takes our covering away and can we appear naked before the Lord? No, if there is no more sacrifice, it needs to be covered and the only way to be covered is by repentance. When He sat down at the right hand of God, all His work was not completed, because He is still ministering in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest and making atonement for sin. However, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. We still need to repent as Christians when we know we have sinned. Jesus Christ is our advocate on our behalf, and we need to ask Him to help us in the areas we struggle with that are contrary to ALL His commandments. Sin still leads to death and just saying we believe is not an exemption from the consequences of sin. The fearful sense of judgement is the work of the Holy Spirit convicting us, and if that conviction is gone, we grieve the Holy Spirit away, whereby the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is in play. Once that conviction, voice, is no longer heard, we have lost our seal. Furthermore, we need to have enough oil, enough of the Holy Spirit as the parable of the 10 virgins demonstrates. So, be careful, if that voice is very faint, chances are there is not enough oil to make it to the feast of the Lord before it burns out.

If Hebrews is held as a message for the Body of Christ, we end up putting square blocks into round holes. The Body of Christ was not initiated until much later in the Acts period. Paul was given revelation of this new entity borne out of Israel's rejection of Jesus as Messiah. Before that, in the early Acts period, Peter was still preaching the coming kingdom to Jews. Paul was also convincing Jews that Jesus was Messiah. The hope still held out for Jews to turn to God. They didn't, and the Body of Christ was born. Hebrews promises that God will make a new covenant with Israel with Judah in the latter days. This covenant is not with the Body of Christ.
This is a good attempt, but the issue is Hebrews is written to Christians. This is clearly the same audience as Hebrews 10:19-25. I think this verse is simply talking about severe discipline for Christians who go back under the law or abandon Christ after they believed. And in the following passage it talks about rewards for the same group of believers if they persevere. Ananias and Saphira were believers and so were the Christians in Corinth, but God killed them for their grave sins. They were mucking up the reflection of Christ we ought to be and were damaging themselves and others so God brought them home early.
I disagree, I think this passage means EXACTLY what it says. It’s very simple and straightforward, if a person receives Christ, is sanctified by His blood, but does not forsake their sin and walk in newness of life but instead continues sinning willfully, he will be judged and condemned. Or if a Christian turns from their pursuit of righteousness and returns to sin, they will also be judged and condemned.
@Julana - Actually it is biblical. Jesus said that if a believer does not continue to “abide in the vine” they are cut off and cast forth. Jn 15:6 - If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. The Apostle Paul warned Gentile Christians that if they become high minded against the natural branches and do not continue in faith, God will cut them off as he did Israel: Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off (Rom 11:22). The Apostle Paul made it very clear that some would depart from the faith: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils (1 Tim 4:1).

I agree. This verse is very plain. The evidence of salvation is belief in Christ, which results in war against sin. We will not be perfect, but the war will be real.

The torture and worry that most Christians feel is because of the conviction of the holy spirit letting them know that they are not right with God. Teachers like the one in this video have convinced most Christians that they are alright with God as long as they are sorry for sins they committed. Jesus called that type of sorrow worldly sorrow. The sorrow that Christ requires is Godly sorrow, of which is to be so sorry that you dont commit that sin ever again.
Of course blasphemy of the holy spirit, sin unto death, and unforgivable sin is all the same thing. Numbers 15:28-31 make it clear what blasphemy of the holy spirit is, as well as sin unto death. It is defiance against God. It is unforgivable for those who have truly been converted if they know that something is wrong, and then choose to go and do it anyway, presuming that God will forgive you. Numbers 15:28-31 also define what sin not unto death is, that being sin that is committed in ignorance. This is what Hebrews 10:26-27 also endorses, as well as many other scriptures.
The problem here is that when you hear this you feel angered and get quite upset, because you believe that you are already saved and you know that you still commit sin. This is because you have never truly been converted in the biblical way, because very few churches are teaching conversion properly.
Acts 2:38 explains an overview of conversion, as does Romans 6. The problem is that most churches never tell you that you enter into covenant with God when you convert, and that a covenant is a contract of which both parties involved have certain responsibilities and benefits. There is also the fact that repentance and baptism are usually also being falsely taught. Not understanding the terms of a contract prevents you from lawfully entering into it. Not understanding what repentance is or the purpose of baptism also prevents you from receiving the benefit of a true conversion, of which is the remission of your sins. With the remission of sins comes freedom from sin, where slavery of sin is broken.
Repentance is Godly sorrow unto true reformation. This means that after a true conversion, you do not ever choose to do what you know is wrong. Remember, defiance is unpardonable.
A true baptism is never for the purpose of an outward sign of an inward change, as is taught in the majority of churches. A true baptism is to be fully immersed in water, where one dies with Christ, as Christ entered into the ground, you go under the water. This to be done in the name of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of remission of your sins, just as the scriptures teach. When you have done these two things, you will receive the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus who will come and live within your heart and he will guide you to live a holy life. Once he is within you, you never defy him or it is blasphemy of the holy spirit, a sin unto death.
Numbers 15:28-31 is clear that this law is eternal for both Jews and Gentiles. I praythat this has assisted some of you.

To understand this in short explanation is to focus on the word "sin", that sin the writer of Hebrews referring to is not adultery, murder, lying, stealing, sexual perversions or anything done by the flesh (although the bible teaches us to escape from all these things but these can be all confessed over and over and over again, but always remember that these acts have consequences) but instead the sin of deliberate rejection of Christ's ultimate sacrifice.

The text is very clear. It uses the Greek Present Tense, which is DURATIVE and ONGOING in Greek Grammar. It refers to continuing in sin after knowing the truth . And for anyone who continues in sin there remains no more sacrifice for sin, also in the ONGOING Greek Present Tense.
This has NOTHING to do with Jews rejecting the sacrifice of Christ and EVERYTHING to do with Christians who turn aside to sin.
Consider the evidence within the text:
- Firstly, ..."If WE SIN ...... "
He uses the first person plural pronoun. He includes himself and his readers. He here warns believers that if we are wilful sinning there stands no more sacrifice for sins.
- Secondly, notice his words are a direct allusion to Numbers 15:30, 31.
Numbers 15 deals with every kind of sin in the people of God. But finally, wilful , presumptuous son is dealt with. And under Moses it received the death penalty to remind the people that "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23) and that "All who do such things are worthy of death" (Romans 1:32).
The text is very clear and it agrees with all the prophets (see: Deuteronomy 32:32-36; Ezekiel 33:13, Hosea 13:9; Isaiah 1:19, 20 ) and the warnings of the Lord himself (Luke 9:62; Matthew 10:33; Matthew 24:42) along with His holy Apostles (Romans 8:13; 11:20-22).
But the writer to the Hebrews makes it very clear that his allusion is to numbers chapter 15. He states as much in verse Heb. 10:28
"He that despised Moses' law died
without mercy under two or three
witnesses"
And immediately applied it to Christians in verse 29:
"Of how much sorer punishment,
suppose ye, shall he be thought
worthy, who hath trodden under foot
the Son of God, and hath counted the
blood of the covenant, wherewith he
was sanctified, an unholy thing, and
hath done despite unto the Spirit of
grace?"
And here he flips from present tense to Future Tense and takes our minds to the Day of Judgement. And here, he iterates to the Past Tense as the sins of those who sinned wilfully in an ongoing way are reviewed ready before the final judgement.
And as if all this was not clear enough, the writer to the Hebrews cites Habbakuk 2:4 (LXX) just a few verses later, with respect to believers:
"Now the just shall live by faith: BUT IF
ANYONE draw back, MY soul shall
have NO PLEASURE IN HIM"
(Hebrews 10:38)
And the writer explains next verse that those who do draw back, draw back TO PERDITION.
This is what Jesus meant when He said:

Does this mean that there is no more forgiveness for those who have sinned wilfully ?
In fact this is a common misconception here because men read English grammar into the text. But the text does not use aorist indicative (past tense fact) but rather present tense. It is the one sinning wilfully after Knowing the truth whose sins are retained. And why are they retained? Because there is remaining no sacrifice for sins for such persons who insult the Spirit of Grace and trample the blood of Christ.
But God, who sees the ruin that we poor sinners bring ourselves into by our sins, also invites us to repent and offers free and full forgiveness when we repent:
"O Israel, THOU HAST DESTROYED
THYSELF; but in ME is thine HELP."

It’s not about “losing it” it is about maintaining the stewardship of the gift of faith which saves us, not about any works. If we fall into habitual sin practices ( see 1 John and Heb chapter 6&10) it can cause us to lose faith and fall into unbelief which is terminal.

Yes it does, the preceding two verses show the context of "we" to not only be Christians, but those who regularly gather together. Furthermore, The remainder of the chapter urges the very same to not cast away their confidence and to recall their former youth as in their days of old in the faith. Most assuredly, one can forsake their salvation. Martin Luther stands among many who understand the Scripture's clear teaching on this.

It is taken out of context 99% of the time. It was written for the Hebrews under the reinstated old covenant which will fade out as the new fades in. Heb. 8:6-13 The law will be written on their hearts. The word LAW should scream, it is for Jews because we are not under the law and we do not have a blood line like the Jews. There genealogy was important because Christ was in that bloodline and they are the creation of God. He created the nation and it's people and owns them. That is incorrect. You can emotionally and mentally fight sin, or you can stave off your own conscience and willfully sin. That means that you do it without feeling bed, without having a desire to NOT do it. You need to clearly feel that "God does not want me to do this" and then say to yourself "Na, I want to do it and I'm going to do it anyway". This is willful sin.

Falling from grace means going to the law to be justified apart from Christ. It's not about if you've sinned too much. Your feelings don't indicate whether the Holy Spirit is in you or not. Keep believing and the Love of Jesus and forgiveness through the cross will set you free from guilt which will set you free from sin. You are forgiven.

I feel guilty for studying hvac to make more money so that I can make a living and not have to depend on anyone. I feel no clear and enough conviction about very little lies, which are still lies, although I know it is not of God. Hebrews 10, much like Hebrews 6, is addressing believers, not unbelievers.
The passage is a warning to those who treat the blood of the covenant "by which they were sanctified" a common (unholy) thing.
The whole book of Hebrews establishes Christ as our perfect high priest and mediator of a perfect covenant. It includes encouragement to cling to our faith and boldly approach God throne. But it also includes warnings not to harden our hearts, fall away, or reject Christ.
The warnings are very clear and line up directly with other scripture passages such as Galatians 5.
Paul tells the church in Galatia that they must not use tue freedom in Christ as an opportunity for the flesh.
Paul lists the fruits of the flesh, and then says in 5:21 that those "who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God"
Paul and the writer of Hebrews are both talking to Christians and warning them that returning to a life of willful, unrepentant sin leads to a loss of inheritance.
This is why the entire bible gives warnings not to be deceived, not to be swayed by false doctrine, to control our tongues and bodies, and study to show ourselves approved. The entire purpose is to make our lives conform to Christ.
A life that does not conform to Christ will not inherit the kingdom.
I would love to talk with you more about this as it has been a big topic of study for me lately.
The Bible says that if we continue to go on sinning, we don’t know Him/are considered liars and the truth is not in us. Put to death your sin, and hold fast to your confession of faith. If we do not let go of our sin, that is to repent, then, what faith are we claiming to have? I myself have sinned, willfully sense, my confession of faith in Christ Jesus. But if we do not repent, the truth was never in us to begin with.

Learned this many years ago under you guys . It is so sad that on every post on forums regarding eternal security this verse along with Hebrews 6:4-6 is there so called silver bullet that destroys eternal security. However, all one has to do is study the verses and passages in light of the context. Instead they use these verses out of context and in isolation as a narrative.
There other point is that sanctified in Hebrews 10 refers to a believer who lost there salvation by rejecting Christ. My response is that sanctified doesn’t always mean saved. The example of the unsaved spouse in 1 Corinthians 7:14 experienced all the blessing being under the umbrella of a Godly spouse. Same in the church where unsaved professing believers experience all the benefits of a Godly Body of believers.
@jsbc1988 maybe it is the OSAS teachers that are taking these scriptures out of context to fit their narrative. If you compare 4:4-6 and 10:26-29 you will notice that the context is one who apostatizes. That is the context of these scriptures. Both of these passages describe fully a born-again believer in Jesus. There is no other reasonable conclusion one can draw that these are not believers in the Lord Jesus. 4:6 clearly says the believer "falls away". 10:29 clearly says the believer "has trodden underfoot the Son of God". Their end is the same..
Absolutely NOWHERE IN SCRIPTURE! Does it teach that salvation in christ Jesus can EVER be Lost! The Bible makes it abundantly clear that the saved are the born-again! And the born-again can NEVER become unborn-again (unsaved)! God bless you!

Yes. This verse in Hebrews CHAPTER 10 (with 9 ignored chapters before it) os talking about JEWS ... and their Unbelief of Jesus as they reject him and go back to prefering Animal Sacrifices after Jesus' sacrifice at the cross.

The torture and worry that most Christians feel is because of the conviction of the holy spirit letting them know that they are not right with God. Teachers like the one in this video have convinced most Christians that they are alright with God as long as they are sorry for sins they committed. Jesus called that type of sorrow worldly sorrow. The sorrow that Christ requires is Godly sorrow, of which is to be so sorry that you dont commit that sin ever again.
Of course blasphemy of the holy spirit, sin unto death, and unforgivable sin is all the same thing. Numbers 15:28-31 make it clear what blasphemy of the holy spirit is, as well as sin unto death. It is defiance against God. It is unforgivable for those who have truly been converted if they know that something is wrong, and then choose to go and do it anyway, presuming that God will forgive you. Numbers 15:28-31 also define what sin not unto death is, that being sin that is committed in ignorance. This is what Hebrews 10:26-27 also endorses, as well as many other scriptures.
The problem here is that when you hear this you feel angered and get quite upset, because you believe that you are already saved and you know that you still commit sin. This is because you have never truly been converted in the biblical way, because very few churches are teaching conversion properly.
Acts 2:38 explains an overview of conversion, as does Romans 6. The problem is that most churches never tell you that you enter into covenant with God when you convert, and that a covenant is a contract of which both parties involved have certain responsibilities and benefits. There is also the fact that repentance and baptism are usually also being falsely taught. Not understanding the terms of a contract prevents you from lawfully entering into it. Not understanding what repentance is or the purpose of baptism also prevents you from receiving the benefit of a true conversion, of which is the remission of your sins. With the remission of sins comes freedom from sin, where slavery of sin is broken.
Repentance is Godly sorrow unto true reformation. This means that after a true conversion, you do not ever choose to do what you know is wrong. Remember, defiance is unpardonable.
A true baptism is never for the purpose of an outward sign of an inward change, as is taught in the majority of churches. A true baptism is to be fully immersed in water, where one dies with Christ, as Christ entered into the ground, you go under the water. This to be done in the name of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of remission of your sins, just as the scriptures teach. When you have done these two things, you will receive the Holy Spirit of Christ Jesus who will come and live within your heart and he will guide you to live a holy life. Once he is within you, you never defy him or it is blasphemy of the holy spirit, a sin unto death.
Numbers 15:28-31 is clear that this law is eternal for both Jews and Gentiles. I praythat this has assisted some of you.

Speaking of the person who trampled the Blood of JESUS, and was worthy of a worse punishment than anyone who broke one of Moses' laws....the Scripture reads that this person was "sanctified". Only a true Christian or Believer can ever be considered sanctified. Sanctified means Holy and Set-Apart unto GOD.
So the person was, indeed, a Believer who, by his willful sin, trampled and counted as worthless the Blood of JESUS that previously made him sanctified and holy by Salvation.
Some Bible Preachers teach that this is a Hyperbole, sarcastically said to make a point...'For if' kinda situation. How do you reconcile that teaching from what you teach, especially when the passage says that they were once enlightened and partakers of the Holy Spirit, having tasted of the Heavenly gift if I have it right. I see the word in the KJV 'tasted' here and in Hebrews 6:4-6 I believe, and then in another Scripture I looked up but forgot about. All seeming to refer to salvation, having tasted, having been partakers, having been enlightened. Speaking to actual salvation, and therefore losing it if you have it. And even though some parts of what you are saying makes sense, can you specify your reasoning from the original language that would make you believe that the word 'Deliberately' or 'willfully' 'Sin' is not a type of Greek or Hebrew word or phrase or cultural idiom that suggests all or any sin but a specific sin?
How do you rebuttle the teaching that Hebrews 6:4-6 and 10:26 onward is purely sarcastic and hyperbolic in nature to make a point?
I am a Christian, and Scripturally and logically I believe we can't lose the salvation we have in Jesus Christ, but then we have to deal with verses like this that are tricky, and it causes many to stumble. So the actual Holy Spirit inspired interpretation needs to be known, always.

You said of the writer's audience, "they were rejecting the gospel of Jesus". Are you saying the writer of Hebrews was NOT writing to Christians, but unbelievers? That doesn't hold up at all, considering all of his other statements in the immediate context and throughout the letter. Also, why would he warn not to "throw away your confidence" (35), if it is impossible to do so?

No, he is writing to Christians who are beginning to backslide!
The message of the book from start to finish is to declare Christ’s supremacy and based on that, encourage the wavering Christian to “hold fast”, “draw near”, and “run with endurance”!

From 6:1-8 (but for the sake of reading I started from 6:4) the writer is addressing unbelieving Jews. Verse 9 we see a change of audience “yet in your case, beloved...”
We see the write use the words “those” referring to unbelievers & “you(r)” referring to believers

In 4-6, he does not change "audience" (i.e. who he is writing TO). He changes who he is writing ABOUT. This is an important distinction. In other words, the writer does not believe his readers are already in the category of those who have fallen away after being enlightened - he is warning them not to be like "those" (apostates). He is writing TO believers (who are wavering in their faith) ABOUT those who have already fallen away, and he does not want them to fall away too. He then contrasts the fruitful and the unfruitful in 7-8.
In verse 9, he does not change audience, but expresses confidence in his brethren that they will not fall away. That's the entire message of Hebrews in a nutshell. Jesus is the only way of salvation, so remain faithful!
10-12: "For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises."

I’m not looking to freely commit adultery, lie, murder, steal, etc. I just wanna be able to relax and watch a movie once in a while, or go train some martial arts as it’s fun and I want to learn self defense, or maybe even play some video games if I have time. Want to play a sport? You better not feel pride, or you might as well stay home. Want to listen to music? It better not have any bad words. Want to watch anything on TV or on UA-cam? Better make sure it doesn’t have any themes that could be sinful. Goodbye superhero movies, goodbye to any fantasy movies, goodbye to watching professional sports, no more non-Christian music, and be careful about watching the news if it makes you feel even a hint of hatred for any criminal or anyone else that commits a horrible crime.
You'll need to correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds to me like you're saying this warning is addressed to non-believers, or Jews who have never believed and are eternally condemned.
While I certainly agree that these verses do NOT teach that a believer can lose his salvation, I do believe that these warning passages are addressed to Jewish believers who have eternal life. If we read a little further down in verses 32 - 36, he is telling this same group of people about when they were in the light, endured during times of great conflict and suffering, and were publicly ridiculed and persecuted. It also says in those earlier days that they joyfully endured the confiscation or spoiling of their goods and possessions knowing they had a greater and more permanent possession promised to them as a result. We know that people don't suffer for the sake of receiving the free gift of eternal life. The author is telling the Jewish Christian audience in verse 35 to keep the confidence they have and they will be greatly rewarded.
Reading from these passages, we can certainly conclude the warning passages from verses 26 -29 are addressed to Jewish believers who already possess eternal life in which they cannot lose. What they stand to lose if they return to the old covenant way of doing things according to 32 - 36 is eternal reward in the next life. The fiery indignation punishment mentioned in the warning is of both temporal and eternal judgment of God, not of losing eternal life, but of losing this temporal life we're in now as well as eternal reward which we're promised if we persevere in that faith.
By the way, I love the ministry you do. We need more teachers in the world that teach the truth in regards to the gospel and the simplicity of how to be given eternal life. Thank you for what you do. God bless.

While it is true that the text is plainly addressed to the Jews; these Jews are believers of the same faith as the Gentile Christians. Jews and Gentile believers in Christ have been all confered into one Spirit of faith (see 1 Corinthians 12:13).

My take is that these are absolutely believing Christians who are already in possession of eternal life and the judgements in view are not about eternal destiny but about severe judgements that would take place in this temporal life.

That they didn't really beleive inspite of the knowledge of Truth without believing there's no sacrifice, therefore Hebrews 10:26 - 27 doesn't mean that Salvation can be lost, but rather warning those who are in Jewish Christian community that they should live in absolute truth for JESUS is the Truth, so therefore there is no problem with Hebrews 10:26.
I know a man who believes and teaches the same thing. He leads a small house church and teaches the men in his church that they can cheat on their wives…if they want to. Technically speaking, he’s right. If salvation cannot be lost, then we can do whatever we want…with impunity.
A person who sins in such deliberate way, not caring about the tremendous work of Jesus on the cross, not having in mind the weight of sin, does not have genuine faith in Jesus, so that person hasn’t been actually saved

@@damarislemusotey1067 Our salvation is based on a covenant. Covenants are agreements between two parties...that either party can break. God has promised that He will not break the covenant with us. However, we are warned over and over in scripture against breaking the covenant with Him. These are the warnings that OSAS believers attribute to those who are not saved. But if you understand what a covenant is, then you will understand that those warnings are for us.

you reading from a text that says, "who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified "them".....that gives an entirely different meaning than a text that says, " wherewith "he" was sanctified". To be sanctified by the blood of the covenant means "he" was a believer (born-again) and yet now "he" is going to suffer a much more sorer punishment than those who died under Moses law. This proves that a believer in Christ who apostatizes will be rejected by Christ and lost.

For me, I feel that God is looking for us to understand something deeper when reading this verse. For instance, you have to set up litmus tests to see if what it seems to say really is what it means. For instance, I become saved.........and then I look at a girl, deliberately with lust in my heart for a hot second. That seems to suffice for this verse's meaning. But come on! That is TOO EASY. Therefore, there must be more to it. What also brings me to this conclusion is that example was RIDICULOUS, and we do not praise a ridiculous god. We praise an all powerful LOGICAL God. So there must be more to this...
This is only a partial explanation of Hebrews chapter 10. Although I agree with the beauty of what Jesus did through his sacrifice this was only a very partial explanation of chapter 10 so it doesn’t really give you the whole context of what is being addressed in this chapter. It doesn’t really answer the question in the title if you take the whole chapter into consideration. This chapter is specifically speaking to those that have followed Christ and the warning not to drawback. The danger with most of the teachings that I listen to is they only teach on one or two scriptures without bringing in the whole context of the chapter and what the book was dealing with and then in light of what the whole Bible teaches. It seems to me that so much teaching and learning is based out of me deciding what I believe and then I just interpret the Scriptures through the filter of what I already believe.

Ephesians says that we who have been redeemed can now do good works:

Then the author of Hebrews recommends provoking one another to do those good works:

The author of Hebrews also suggests that his audience are those who have confessed Christ:

If its true wilful sin is any sin then no one is in Heaven. Bit I hope its talking about rejection of the gospel after having knowledge. If not none of us will be forgiven. Hebrews does tell us that there remains NO MORE SACRIFICE, which takes our covering away and can we appear naked before the Lord? No, if there is no more sacrifice, it needs to be covered and the only way to be covered is by repentance. When He sat down at the right hand of God, all His work was not completed, because He is still ministering in the heavenly sanctuary as our High Priest and making atonement for sin. However, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. We still need to repent as Christians when we know we have sinned. Jesus Christ is our advocate on our behalf, and we need to ask Him to help us in the areas we struggle with that are contrary to ALL His commandments. Sin still leads to death and just saying we believe is not an exemption from the consequences of sin. The fearful sense of judgement is the work of the Holy Spirit convicting us, and if that conviction is gone, we grieve the Holy Spirit away, whereby the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is in play. Once that conviction, voice, is no longer heard, we have lost our seal. Furthermore, we need to have enough oil, enough of the Holy Spirit as the parable of the 10 virgins demonstrates. So, be careful, if that voice is very faint, chances are there is not enough oil to make it to the feast of the Lord before it burns out.

If Hebrews is held as a message for the Body of Christ, we end up putting square blocks into round holes. The Body of Christ was not initiated until much later in the Acts period. Paul was given revelation of this new entity borne out of Israel's rejection of Jesus as Messiah. Before that, in the early Acts period, Peter was still preaching the coming kingdom to Jews. Paul was also convincing Jews that Jesus was Messiah. The hope still held out for Jews to turn to God. They didn't, and the Body of Christ was born. Hebrews promises that God will make a new covenant with Israel with Judah in the latter days. This covenant is not with the Body of Christ.
This is a good attempt, but the issue is Hebrews is written to Christians. This is clearly the same audience as Hebrews 10:19-25. I think this verse is simply talking about severe discipline for Christians who go back under the law or abandon Christ after they believed. And in the following passage it talks about rewards for the same group of believers if they persevere. Ananias and Saphira were believers and so were the Christians in Corinth, but God killed them for their grave sins. They were mucking up the reflection of Christ we ought to be and were damaging themselves and others so God brought them home early.
I disagree, I think this passage means EXACTLY what it says. It’s very simple and straightforward, if a person receives Christ, is sanctified by His blood, but does not forsake their sin and walk in newness of life but instead continues sinning willfully, he will be judged and condemned. Or if a Christian turns from their pursuit of righteousness and returns to sin, they will also be judged and condemned.
@Julana - Actually it is biblical. Jesus said that if a believer does not continue to “abide in the vine” they are cut off and cast forth. Jn 15:6 - If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
The Apostle Paul warned Gentile Christians that if they become high minded against the natural branches and do not continue in faith, God will cut them off as he did Israel: Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off (Rom 11:22).
The Apostle Paul made it very clear that some would depart from the faith: Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils (1 Tim 4:1).

The key to understanding Heb 10:26 is actually in Heb 10:29. This person has trampled underfoot the Son of God! This person is a rejecter of Christ! A non believer, who heard, but then rejected the gospel! For how could they have fully received Christ if they have then rejected him! Not possible! Its a non believer, not a believer! If a believer sins, we know that Christ is our advocate as scripture tells us!
I had a incredible intimate relationship with Jesus. Spent 8 hrs almost everyday in his presence. Power and his love being shed abroad in my heart, I loved Jesus with everything in me! I rebelled and died and experienced hell as a unbeliever. Obviously osas is not biblical. The lord raised me back to life, I've met many Christians who also experienced hell since my hell experience. I wholeheartedly disagree with this teaching. Satan knows that the blood of Jesus was the sacrifice for sins. Many people acknowledge that but reject it. There are people who wholeheartedly follow Jesus and then something happens in their life and they reject him falling into sin. Once saved always saved is dangerous and sending people to hell.
