They hear a comment from Evangeline Lilly on gender perceptions before getting into lighting things on fire as children, tennis ball cannons, and what would happen if they entered Phil in a dog show.
Next, with Chris out on paternity leave, Lisa Curry fills in to report the news. They hear about Lionel Richie defending himself amidst plastic surgery rumors , cannabis use getting linked to schizophrenia, and Elon Musk urging Don Lemon to launch a new show on Twitter. Finally, Dr. Peter Attia talks to Adam about his new book, ‘Outlive: The Science and Art of Longevity’ where he outlines how you can lengthen your lifespan by improving your healthspan. Adam tells him a story about his hero Ayrton Senna and they talk about the benefits of being in nature.

Recently, I had to find out for myself about the whole battery draining thing after getting some hard to find electronics.
Apparently, that whole drain the battery to zero thing was for older batteries. For modern stuff, u wanna keep it above 70% from the beginning, at least that's what I read.
They compared it to a spring. Draining it is like stretching the spring to it's capacity and wearing it out. Keeping it charged is more like having the spring in it's natural position most of the time, not wearing it out as fast.
Ni-cad you drain, Lith-ion you keep charged.
Being a year younger than Adam, I love when he goes back to things from our childhood. We used to make a Polish cannon from the tennis ball can or even a Pringles can.

polish cannon, (28-31 min) great idea wish i had been shown that as a kid, most we could do was carefully scrape/join all the pink dots of powder in the toy gun caps to make a "genie", or save them all up till you could find something to blow up!
I’m the same age as Adam, lived in SoCal until I was 11, I remember seeing those 1/8” wide sweeper blades in the gutters. We used to play with them, throw them & our buddies 🤪
Racing is part of my DNA , I worked on race teams and was crew chief for many years with my cousin (driver) from being kids around family involved with racing.
Short story about teams coming together, when we were in our last few races for the season the number one in points blew his motor in the heat race. We had won the last few races and had jumped to fifth.
This win would of made us in first place with two races to go!😁👍
We thought we had the main in the bag…..in between the two other classes mains racing that night they changed out that motor and minute before having to go out on the track to line up they did the change…I was mind boggled!😳
That just doesn’t happen in amateur racing, his team rocked. He won that race and we came in third.. he won the championship and we ended in 7th.
When a team pulls together and works on one goal anything can happen…
Next season.. we were in first up to 3/4 of the season..but as the story goes it ain’t cheating till you get caught!😂

Is not science..when you’ve already come up with a conclusion and won’t look at evidence that could make you wrong.
Adam, you did it right, the nil hypothesis. This is what science was supposed too be, today we have experts claiming to know the science, science is about being skeptical. That’s how it progresses.😎

We just called it a tennis ball cannon. We used the cans that were the former home of tennis balls. Being 14 or so, the only gas available was for the lawn mower, so we used rubbing alcohol. We never shot them at night, but they were balls of fire. Fortunately we didn't catch the wood shingled homes and garages on fire. Even better than that was launching water balloons from the roof of apartments that were across the street from the football field, and the opposing side was closest. Home coming game against (Adam likely knows the city) Corona del Mar Sea Queens, the balloons would hit the chain link fence, causing a shotgun effect. I'll wager that we damaged a little bit of fur and other rich folk clothing. Every year after, the police made their presence known.

I noticed at 1:24:01 while staring at the coffee cup, Lisa's boobs and the glass of water next to the mic, that Lisa has the kind of fingers that work. Adam I love you. But a bunch of bad info being spewed about electric car batteries in this episode. As an EV enthusiast and owner, may I unpack this a bit? First, the reason that Mrs. Geregos charges her car every day is likely related to a phenomenon knows as "range anxiety". People are concerned they will run out charge and that there won't be a place nearby to charge the car. On the positive side, she wants to leave the house everyday ready for anything.
Adam's conception that the whole idea about EVs is to top them off and then run them down all week as a best practices, is 100% incorrect. Cycling an EV battery actually takes a little of its lifetime away. Having said that, there is nothing at all wrong with driving the car all week w/o recharging. You just don't want to get under, say, 20% charge. It's personal choice.
Finally, EV batteries love it the most when they sit at a 50% charge. Kind of a Goldilocks thing. Not too high. Not too low. There is minimal degradation occurring at a 50% charge. That is impractical of course in real world use, but the closer you stay toward 50% the longer the battery will live. Mrs. Geregos may well be charging her Tesla to 80% each day (this IS a best practices approach), which is a sort of a happy medium between practicality and longevity.

Hey, Adam: to me, the most interesting thing about the film "Con Air" is how they totally screw up Las Vegas geography during the crash near the end. First, the plane goes cartwheeling straight down the middle of the Strip in a due South direction; then it suddenly defies physics and jumps half a mile due East past the giant neon guitar at the Hard Rock; then (the best part) having gone due South, then some degree of Eastward travel...it miraculously skids to a complete stop 4 or 5 miles North at the entrance to the Fremont Street Experience!

I found those metal things, all through the 70-80"s growing up. I would bend and twang them. But the ones I found were totally flat, like a wood stir stck you get with hot chocolate.
I always assumed they came off of cars, since always found in the road.

@@crawfords11 No these were not curb feelers, too short and just nope, but I don't buy they are off street cleaners eithers. Because where I grew up there were no street cleaners and the frequency was too often for even a rando street cleaner. I think they were just parts that off of the chasis of the car at some point from manufacturing.
those little metal things that people find in the road, or at the curb are the internal ribs of windshield wipers. on the cheaper wipers there are two of them on each wiper blade.

Didn’t know of Peter but love the racing talk. I grew up Jr drag racing and than switched to motocross. Now I mostly mountain bike , it’s a blast . Dale Earnhardt had that longevity too, when he died he was a fully capable of maybe winning his 8 th championship. Also John force is in his 70s still racing
