Ground Blizzard Warning and Spin Outs, Fargo, ND - 1/18/2022

- A blizzard warning is now in effect for eastern ND. This video was filmed while traveling southbound on I-29 from Hillsboro, ND, to Fargo, ND. Visibility and road conditions deteriorated quickly and plummeting temps helped blowing snow freeze to the roadways. I-29 was a sheet of ice at times, causing several vehicles to end up in the ditch.
Shot Description
1) Complete whiteout at times on Interstate 29 near Hillsboro, ND
2) Driving into rest area along I-29, scenes of people in strong winds
3) I-29 completely iced up, blowing snow with slow travel 10 miles north of Fargo
4) Several clips of vehicles off the roadway in Fargo, ND
5) I-29 ground blizzard driving

A Rest Stop - great way to avoid a blizzard induced traffic accident.
That's what you should do. Does not put other people's lives on the line trying to rescue you out in the weather which people were warned about for days. The DOT has updated info almost every 10-15 min ......be safe.....be smart...care about others whose jobs are to keep you from harm✌️❤️🚑🚒🚓🚧🚧 ground blizzards kill

That truck driver is a knucklehead for driving that fast in those conditions.
IBTD, trucks have better visibility in those conditions, I know, the company that I drove for was based in Fargo, had many a four wheeler following my clearance lights.
When those truck pass you like that, you can't see any thing for 3 to 4 seconds

I'm here from Texas on a work project. They sent me up here in a 2 wheel drive truck, with summer tires. I weighed the bed down with heavy plate steel and sand bags. My first time experiencing a ground blizzard.
I can't believe some BONEHEADS drive as fast as they do in conditions like this. It's tragic that so many people lose their lives from not being careful.
Unreal and blizzard conditions, followed many truckers through winter conditions, not the ditch though and Thanks for the risky video brings back white knuckling days!
These are whiteout conditions out there. I cannot believe anyone dares to drive in those conditions. I pray for everyone to make it safely to their homes. These are brave people.
It can be frightening to say the least. Takes all the courage you've got and then some. For some, it's a good drive home from work, so they'll do their level best to get home to their families.
While the weatherman can give predictions, you can still get caught unexpectedly having to drive in these conditions. So, yeah, thanks for the prayers!!
I'm surprised the highway isn't closed over night by the DOT
Yeah anyone that would just drive in that blizzard like those truckers are inviting hardship and disaster.
I just drove through this, road was glare ice, a semi did a 180 in the south bound lanes, don't know how he didn't go in the ditch. South of Fargo wS REALLY bad.
This brings back memories for me. We lived in Devils Lake for 3 years. This was the norm ☝️
My Dad grew up in McVille and said this was every year.

Anyone driving on I-94 Westbound in Moorhead between Menards and 20th Street South, there’s currently a car that might have spun out, but I do know it is in the ditch, drive carefully out there
Dang. That last trucker drivin way too close. Hes the type ends up in those huge pile ups and kills people in front.
Find an exit and get off the road...

This is pretty much what it was like on the day I moved from Fargo to Honolulu. No regrets.
Those poor farm animals/livestock too.
Farm animals are fine. My horse stay outside unblanked. He has a building be in but he chooses to be outside anyway.
I use to live in FL, very much miss a warm winter. This snow stuff stinks..
I will pray for their safety, I would never drive in those conditions.
Had to 30 km on the 36 in Alberta on Monday night . Zero visibility . -16 . Head outta window looking for centre line . Took me 2 1/2 hrs to get to a safe place to park.
How do you know if you are even on the road or that their isn't cars piled up in front of you, this is why people die...is it worth it?

We drove through it earlier like around noon, crazy, saw the highway patrol on snow mobile

Normal weather for North Dakota
Life just goes on for the most part . Some people stay home but many just have to tough it out.
Farmers have cut down the rows of trees between fields for more crops.The trees help with the snow blowing over the road.
Wow...I'm a hour from there..just cold nothing happening here like this!....yet.

February. That's when Wisconsin gets hit. Today it was almost 40F.
I can somewhat understand truckers driving through that blizzard but anyone else well that is just dumb. Also it was very poor judgement for the state police to not shut that highway down.
Grandin ND - When you can no longer make out the road - that's a blizzard. This is just blowing snow.
In the summertime a blizzard costs $3 and gives you brain freeze.
I wouldn’t want to travel through this but i have to take a little trip through it to get to work. Others i know live further away in the Highway and have to travel through it to get to work. Its bad.
Just a few thoughts/comments.
1. .....and people live here because?
2.......are you that big of a hurry that you feel the need to pass someone in those conditions?
3.......the roads are in pretty good shape.

2. .... Yes, seriously, people really are in that big of a hurry. And, if they spin out or go in the ditch, it's your fault because you were in their way and\or were going to slow.

Actually.... people drive crazy, too fast, etc, most everywhere. I've seen enough UA-cam videos of other states in snowy weather, or not snowy for that matter, and those 'back East' drivers :) are crazy in their shenanigans.
At least up here there isn't as many people and a lot more space!

I agree with you on that because it's not worth the paperwork and you might get more than you bargained for. Still you have the die hard drivers who by no means will take a time out for better conditions.. live and learn.

You'd think they would have a paint that is solar energized and paint the tops of the post so a person could use it as a guide during severe whiteouts. They should SPEND THAT RESEARCH MONEY ON SOMETHING USEFUL INSTEAD OF SOME STUPID GAME OR CELL PHONE APP. OR A FANCY PAIR OF SHOES.
