When I was in elementary school, I was getting bullied by a few of the popular girls that were the teachers pets. We were in the lunch line and one of the girls "accidently" knocked my lunch tray out of my hand. In a fit of anger, I yelled at her and her friend that they were all queers. My punishment from the school was swift. In those days, we got the paddle, and I got 12 swats that were pretty painful from the teacher who loved those girls. I have hated that word and refused to use it ever since. This was back in 1988. Now, to see people proudly proclaim themselves as a queer and to lovingly identify with that term is just so odd to me. That word will always have negative, derogatory connotations as far as I'm concerned and I hate hearing it used so light heartedly.

People haven't thought about the long term consequences of giving up on this issue - in Scandinavia, some priests are already being forced to hold gay marriages in their churches. Because it would be "discrimination" not to do so. If you give these people an inch, they take several miles - that is why the right would be well advised not to make ANY unreasonable concessions to the left - even if the issue is deemed "settled". The right to gay marriage in the constitution is an interpretation just as absurd as Roe v Waid and the "right to abortion" allegedly being in the constitution.
