Today's episode was recorded before I saw Mel Gibson's appearance on JRE. My colleague Joe Heschmeyer will address Gibson's claims about the Church on Tuesday on his channel Shameless Popery and I'll compare his and Huff's approaches to defending the Resurrection on Wednesday on COT. If you saw both, how would you compare and contrast their approaches?
Absolutely wonderful point at the end. I am all about spreading the gospel of Christ’s instead of worrying about minor denominational differences. Christianity is about Christ not theology. My biggest criticism of Catholics is they place more emphasis on the traditions of Catholicism than spreading the gospel to unbelievers.
Reformed Protestant here and big fan of Wes for years. Trent, I appreciate this video. Your speech was so kind, gracious, pleasant and seasoned with salt. Also love that you recommended Gavin's stuff. Anyway, this was an awesome video. Thanks for not bashing or nitpicking Wes but adding actual good points and refuting opinions.

I'm Catholic but have attended Protestant services as a caretaker of a wheelchair-bound friend at a non-denominational Protestant church. What I appreciate about Protestants is their engagement in the local church community, biblical literacy, and a sense of ownership in the church itself. What I appreciate about being a Catholic is our deep reverence at church and Mass, saying prayers in unison, and the universality and connections with other Catholics worldwide.
@@Sirach_5_11perhaps Sirach means that just because mrluisanthonydivito may not have “biblical literacy” doesn’t mean that all Catholics don’t. Also the main thing to be grateful for as Catholics is that we have the true presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. ❤
Same I'm a protestant. I love my God fearing Jesus love brothers and sisters. Dogma, theology, nor the church can save us, only Jesus. God knew us little tribalistic human beans were gonna fragment the faith so that's why Jesus said He's the only way to The Father. ✝️❤️🔥☦️

I’m a Protestant, but this was a great supplement to Huff’s original discussion. I really wish Wes had also made some of the points made in this video, but I still think Wes did a great job considering it was a completely unscripted three-hour discussion.
@@Martin4Mary4Ever there was absolutely no mockery in my statement. We, as Catholics, love to see our Protestant brothers and sisters return home. This is genuine and true.
@@thealexsau Aye, I believe your sentiment is sincere and even orthodox. The issue is that it is mockery regardless of the intention when one receives a compliment but responds with an unrelated directive based on the other's status. If you think about how this would come off in an actual conversation, I hope the insult becomes more apparent. At best, it's patronizing and still disrespectful. It's more appropriate to thank @psd_seth and encourage the following of Trent as a good counter perspective. That said, my bias is one of Southern etiquette.
Yes please. I like Mel Gibson and I think he's a person of good will, but his sedevacantism seems like a hopeless doctrine: essentially, that God permitted the complete dissolution of the Catholic Church and the rise of an anti-Church in her place. Obviously Jesus promised that this wouldn't happen, but there are persuasive arguments that the "hermeneutic of continuity" is utterly false.
May God continue to bless the scholars that devote so much time educating the common man. Trent I rely on you so much to teach the faith of our Fathers.
Wes was highly impressive - he gave an apologetic masterclass through his conduct alone. Good rule of thumb for me going forward is "if you aren't spreading the Gospel like Wes Huff, you're probably coming from a place of pride"
Most if not all of the opposition to Wes is spiritual jealousy. I saw another channel that claimed since he is not catholic then it is the devil using Wes and not God. The catholic church is the pharisees of today. Very sad they worship the church above Jesus' teachings
Wes had some bumps sure but this was the first time an articulate case for Jesus was made on maybe the largest media platform on the internet. Love it!
Well said in the end. As a Protestant, I notice many Catholics spend more time trying to convince Protestants that the Catholic tradition is true, rather than spending time with other religions convincing them why Jesus is God etc. I have a Catholic friend who all he does is try to convince me to become Catholic, and it gets annoying.
I’m so thankful for the founders of America and US constitution. I never understood what they meant by freedom growing up. The limitations they put on the Church was the best thing for humanity. I get it now.
Well, tradition is equally important to us.. we have different religions. There is a good reason why young people are flocking to Catholicism, they want real, ancient tradition, Latin Mass etc. Protestantism has become McDonaldsfied and Americanized.. demonic almost.
@@LaTierraNueva19Pentecostals continue to dominate globally. It makes zero sense why USA is the most blessed of any nation ever recorded in history and has more power than Rome ever wished. Well, while there is truth that we must focus on other faiths also (many do) we must also not allow ecumenism to become a fatal form of relativism to which we are blinded by one-another's errors by virtue of agreeing on more than we would wih a Buddhist. Your friend is right to attempt to convince you to become Catholic, you *are* in error and outside the fullness of the faith. A host to untruth is a host to evil. @@amelancholybear1534 how can you tell someone they are in error? It’s one thing to make an argument why you believe this or that. Now you are just an aging person pretending you are God or something.
Catholic doctrine says a Christian is someone with a valid Trinitarian baptism. Again, this is the difference between comparing what Catholics say vs what the Church teaches.
I wouldn't call it a debate per se, joe often plays devils advocate when speaking to Christians just so they can better flesh out their arguments to the microphone. Joe probably did disagree or was very skeptical at times but I wouldn't say he was outright debating Wesley. He saw that Carson debate, he knew better lol
Once again, brother, I am grateful for you rising above the significant differences between Catholics and Protestants and recognizing the far more substantial agreements we share. This is not true about many Catholic apologists - and too many protestant ones as well. “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity”. One day we will and our differences will be long past.
A Lutheran here, and I’d say our Church is largely like a mix between Catholic and the more traditional protestants in the States. Wes is a big inspiration for me and he is a great apologetic, but so is Trent. May the glory of Jesus Christ be shared to all regardless. Praise God.
1:18 thank you for this video! that was my biggest confusion. As a Catholic I still need to learn to defend my faith and when Huff gives compelling arguments I know aren't true I don't know how to defend my opinion to others who believe the same.
I really appreciated the comments toward the end about how us Protestants are great at defending the Resurrection. I'd like to see more Catholics join that fight as well.
Protestants are use to being in a world against them. They never had an empire. This means they have to use more logic than dogma and be in charity when giving out the gospel.
I think they might not believe it. Maybe that is the problem. The number of comments I am seeing is shocking, about praying through Saints or asking about Gibson criticizing the Pope for encouraging idols in God’s house.
Catholics has a lot of problems and yes they don't see praying to Mary and the Saints as a problem. Their faith is largely based on tradition and rituals and less on Jesus. But, to be fair, a huge amount of Catholics does focus on Jesus Christ, which is nice, 🙏! 🕊🕊🕊
@@maxinedeleon4357 If you go to a Catholic Mass, you will see that the entire Catholic faith centers around Jesus in the Eucharist, as in the early Church. Our entire worship centers around Him. He is the source and summit of our faith!
My biggest issue with Wes' appearance is the flat out misrepresentation of John Wycliffe's execution by England and his continuing the Protestant propaganda that it was because he translated the Bible into English. Even Wikipedia doesn't say such nonsense. For someone who touts himself as a historian, this is really a poor showing.
@@bigp6071 from what I can see, Mel Gibson is a sede vecantist. He thinks (and teaches others) that God allowed the Catholic Church to essentially disappear entirely because of apostasy. @@Spadooch Nothing Trent has said against Protestantism or Gavin is false. In fact, his latest video meticulously outlined the denominational differences in reverence among evangelicals-a nuance Gavin either couldn’t grasp or chose to ignore. Ortlund’s failure to properly define his terms was glaringly obvious, and instead of addressing the core issues, he derailed into a rambling, self-indulgent monologue about preaching. It wasn’t a counterargument; it was an incoherent diversion, impressive only to those predisposed to anti-Catholic bias and eager to lap up any rhetoric, no matter how hollow. Thanks for covering this Trent! I've been following Wes, he is great, but it really blows my mind how, being so smart, he has stayed away from researching Catholicism. Still, very grateful for the impact he is causing!
Smart people will always stay away from catholicism… even after extensive research. The fact that yall worship a pope and mary instead of Jesus disqualifies you from being Christians. Please stop acting like you believe in the saving blood of Christ to cover your sin. It is not enough.

@@Midwest-e3i The deeper you go into history you will have no choice but to come to Catholicism. If you are honest and not biased with historical sources of course.
The authenticity of the New Testament docs depends largely on Catholic approaches to the Church and Tradition. Brant Pitre makes this clear in his dismantling of Bart Ehrman in ways Protestants can't do without being inconsistent.
Dude we live in the 21st century. Going forward in the secular age each dogmatic thing will have to be defended. The more complex the harder. Many individuals are going to pick and choose what they believe and then find the denomination that fits them best.
@@bobinindiana I know who Ehrman is. Tony was trying to say it’s easy to defend Catholicism than Protestant. That’s just mathematically wrong. The more doctrines and dogmas you have the more complex the religion. Basic Protestant just needs to show that Christ is God.
The idea that the Catholic Church rejected vernacular Bible translations is nonsense. The Catholic Church did structure vernacular languages in the first place so that they would be ready to accomodate a Bible translation. In Portugal (my country), for instance, the first portuguese grammar was published by Catholic Monk Fernão Oliveira in 1536. Without a consistent grammar structure it would be impossible to have the Bible translated into portuguese. The Catholic Church had to start from scratch.
Exactly, there were vernacular bibles in Africa and the Middle East too long before the first published English Bible. I feel like too often vernacular gets used by opponents of the church to just mean “in English” and even then, the English had English translations of almost every single part of the Bible long before the Douay-Rheims, it just wasn’t a single compiled book yet
Totally appreciate you, Trent, commenting and writing about the basis for Christian belief…growing up Catholic, I had no idea why I should believe what I was told…I was told many times “because the Church says so”…totally unhelpful when you’re in the early stages…I read Protestant info to establish the base, and to get to the heart of the matter…as Paul says, if Jesus didn’t rise from the dead we are the most pitiable of people…once that was solidified, then I could move on to the next step. Thanks for your work!
Your testimony just goes to show the bible isn't whistling dixie when it emphatically states at length, that all the parts of the body are needful. And not to think that a part that looks or seems less comely is sometimes even more crucial to the body than the supposedly more comely parts. These and other scriptures are pretty much ignored by both Catholics and protestants alike, that want to incessantly duke it out about true churches and prefer to right fight. But what you encountered is all the church functioning as a full body, and all the parts being as needful to make up for the lack of the other. In keeping w/ this, I love the burgeoning bromance w/ Trent and Gavin Ortlund and how they now recommend each others work. We have an increasingly anti Christian society and to work together only makes us stronger. I really don't care about our theological differences anymore. They just seem insignificant in light of what we are facing. Christians are being crucified still in parts of the world. Since they took Assad out, that's exactly what is happening, because he did protect the minority Christians from the extremists. Bishop Mar Mar was stabbed and maimed, and priests have been attacked right in a live video taped Mass right in my Canada, which I never thought I'd see. It's time to get our act together, quite literally. God bless. Oh, and I meant to ad that there's a Catholic church I was attending where I liased a lot w/ the Deacon, Adrian. Even though he had been miraculously healed at a famous protestant healing service, by the infamous Kathryn Kuhlman, of severe and disabling epilepsy, he still remained Catholic and went on to become a Deacon. Which is fine by me, because he's a staunch ecumenist, like myself, who has remained on the protestant side, w/ a healthy respect for my French Catholic family roots. I know it's unorthodox, but he doesn't even mind me taking Holy Communion, so he actually puts his ecumenism into practice. I love that his parish is part of an outreach where they liase and pray several local protestant churches. Music to my Christian soul.
Note that almost NOBODY on UA-cam uses “begging the question” to mean petitio principii: “begs the question” INVARIABLY means “leads to the question,” so to most people watching a UA-cam video, the original meaning doesn’t exist. You almost have to say “assuming a conclusion” or the like.
Yes, that fallacy is so badly named that everybody uses it wrong, and it has to be explained laboriously everytime someone tries to use it correctly. We're basically in the process of finding a new term for that fallacy.
Fr. Laux's books on the Catholic faith and Catholic apologetics, written in the late 1920s, are fantastic, and do include a vigorous defense of the historical reality of Christ, his crucifixion, and his resurrection.
Trent is my fave catholic apologist. Seems like he has an endless supply of knowledge about the Catholic faith and he’s single handily helped strengthen my faith as a Catholic.
Would love to see Trent on Rogan. Trent I appreciate all your videos. You are my go to when considering apologetics. I live in the Deep South. Defending the Catholic Faith is much easier now than it was in the 50,60,70, etc as there are many more Catholics living here than then. I must say as a pre- teen and teen it was a challenge and hurtful to be rejected because of my faith. We moved from a predominantly Catholic area of the country to Georgia with few Catholics. On the other hand it was a blessing as I learned my faith by being challenged with the typical misconceptions. I was defensive of it and found a love for her teachings. Fortunately for me my parents saw the need and placed me in one of the few nearby parochial schools in Atlanta. There were many many more “ opportunities “ to defend ny faith in everyday life. Wish I had had Trent’s and wish even now I have Trent’s knowledge to defend. I must say apologetics is a great interest for me. May I add, my Mother was Presbyterian and my Dad was Catholic. My Mom had a deathbed conversion and was truly a saint as she taught us our Baltimore Catechism as my brother and I attended parochial school when we lived in the north. The Catholic Faith is definitely to be treasured. Thank you Trent for teaching it to believers, non- believers and even cradle Catholics.
lol Catholic faith??? This blows my mind. You are either Christian or not… Bible believing or not. How is this even a topic. Like except you people are saying you are not Christians and have problems with the words of Jesus and his commandments. Then it will make sense why there are suggestions of worshipping other deities or praying to God through them. For instance that means an Igbo can pray to God through Ogun or Sango or Osun and that will be fine with Catholics these days.
Can you do a video on Huff’s ideas on why the Catholic Church is not the true church? One idea is that the early church already had the New Testament and didn’t require the Roman church to create the canon.
Prepositional apologetics is goated. Can’t lose that argument against an atheist. They don’t have any epistemological foundation to justify their knowledge or moral claims.
That is true. Due to the gazillions different Protty sects with their gazillion different beliefs and doctrines, in all fairness to us Catholics, difficult to dialogue if u don't know wat that Protty sect belongs to/beliefs & try to see where they are coming from.
I find it funny how Trent says catholics should spend more time proclaming and defending the risen Jesus and not let Protestants do the heavy lifting and 9 out of 10 most liked comments are people asking for him to make videos refuting every single mistake the protestant made.
It’s not an either-or issue. Both need to happen...and they can happen at the same time. Especially when Protestants do the “heavy lifting” of proclaiming the risen Jesus, they almost always include their anti-Catholic bias as part of their “preaching.”
@@jaytkadv2429 Without the Eucharist, we have no life. And the Eucharist the body, blood, soul and divinity is to be found in the Church. We are defending Jesus and our access to Him that's available in the Church. This is the most intimate and reliable way experience Jesus, on this side of heaven.
The argument that the apostles were willing to die is compelling, but as you rightly pointed out, it might lose its weight if we consider that followers of other religions, like Islam, have also been willing to die for their beliefs. The difference lies in the nature of what the apostles were dying for. Most martyrs die for what they believe to be true, often something they were taught or inherited from their culture. However, the apostles claimed to be eyewitnesses to an event: the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They weren’t dying for secondhand teachings or traditions but for something they saw and experienced firsthand. This is where Christianity stands apart. Now, consider this: if Jesus truly claimed to be God, willingly went to the cross, and rose again, this is not just about dying for a belief; it’s about the ultimate demonstration of love and victory over sin and death. The apostles were so transformed by encountering the risen Christ that they proclaimed this truth, even in the face of death, to bring salvation to the world. Their willingness to die was not to defend a mere philosophy but to testify to what they knew had happened, an empty tomb and a living Savior. So, the real question becomes: why would someone who claimed to be God, like Jesus, willingly die for humanity? And why would His closest followers, who initially fled in fear, boldly proclaim His resurrection if it were a lie? The answer points to a truth that changed history: that Jesus’ death and resurrection were real, and through Him, the fear of death is conquered. This, in my view, makes the argument even stronger, not just the apostles’ willingness to die but the unique, transformative event they testified to. It’s not about dying for belief; it’s about living and dying for the truth of a risen Savior.
I thought this was a very charitable and honest break down. Well spoken. I hope protestants, orthodox, catholics and the rest of Christendom can get along like this and just focus on Christ and the task of loving those around us. Critiquing each other and ourselves with love and respect.
Basically, what Catholics need to learn from Protestants is to study Jesus & Christianity. It is really nice ❤. Because of this, I kinda had this desire & inspiration to pursue Christian Theology. Thank you!
I think get rid of the adds on like purgatory, holding Mary and the Saints up to a higher esteem than they should be. @@maxinedeleon4357 I agree, growing up in a catholic church, called, Mary immaculate church,as young Italian boy. I didn't really start growing in my faith, until I started going to bible based churches, as I got older, where we pick up our bibles every sunday, and search, and learn from the word of God,from genesis to revelation, so for me, that is so important, the word says faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of God, now I will never say that catholics aren't saved, and I knew a lot of dedicated, Jesus, loving people, but there is a scripture that says, my people perish.Due to lack of knowledge,so to me the bible is our owner's manual, on how to live a successful Godly life, So my conclusion is, if you're not studying the word of God, and growing in your faith, maybe consider a different church. ✝️❤️🙏

Wes called himself an historian yet when questioned about why Constantine converted to Christianity he didn’t even know and there was no mention of his vision before battle of Milvian Bridge. Also he said 400 people saw Christ when it was 500 (1 Corinthians 15:6), not an issue but strange for an “expert historian” to not get simple facts right, because even I knew it was 500 lol
Thanks for the info about Wes. He is completing his PhD so I think he is sort of a work in progress. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it is surprising about what the Constantine history statement.
@ Eusebius knew Constantine personally and Constantine reportedly told him about the vision under oath. Another writer, Lactantius (who also knew him) also wrote about the event (although it was in a dream) which gives extra support to the story. The vision makes sense given Constantine’s sudden support for Christianity, like the Edict of Milan.
I’m a Christian and even I didn’t know about the Dead Sea scrolls and how investigated and proven a lot of the historical aspects of the Bible including the people in them are!
One of the roadblocks (veil) of protestants to understand Catholicism, is not knowing the difference between "worship" and "petition" in a religious application.
I understand that veneration of saints and icons is not a form of worship. I have corrected quite a lot of fellow Protestants who still think that Catholics worship Mary as a goddess. But as a Protestant, I still disagree with veneration of saints and icons as I believe that Christ is enough.
@@kevinclement1533 I think it depends on what you qualify as veneration. Setting the praying issue aside, venerating the saints by taking them as examples of heroic acts, and virtuous lives, can help someone further their spiritual journey; I don't think anyone can justly deny this. I'd see the veneration through praying for the intercession of a saint as focussing on GOD through the prism of the feats of his spirit. If the Holy spirit is a third equal part of GOD, then I think it follows that something of that sort makes a level of sense; at least, treating it as a matter of pure logical argument.
@williamchristy9463 As a Protestant, I definitely agree that the saints make excellent role models for Christians to learn from. In that case, veneration isn't something that I disagree with. In fact, I believe that the reason why some modern Protestant churches have fallen to the trap of prosperity gospel is partly because they forget about the sacrifices of saints in the past. These people think that Christianity is simply about material blessings, and forget that Christianity is also about bearing the cross. The part where I disagree with Catholicism is in the area of praying to the saints as intercessors to God. As a Protestant, my belief is that having Jesus as our intercessor is enough.
@ But Jesus cannot function as an intercessor; he is LORD, whole and directly. From within your framework, an intercessor as such would not be necessary; I can agree with that. I'd be curious to hear why someone who believes such is necessary would believe it; metaphysically, it doesn't make sense to me.
How to Show Joe Rogan Christianity is True - Make him say wow How to Show a Rational Person Christianity is True - First, establish a coherent definition of "God" - Second, show evidence outside of the Bible that this God exists - Third, show evidence outside of the Bible that shows that what it says is true
So Wes did do a great job in his area of expertise. But the moment he got out of his area of expertise, he dropped back to apologetics. Many time when asked about stuff not in his expertise he wildly overstated claims. I’m all for fighting against disinformation, like how he flexed on Billy Carson. But the moment you get outside of your expertise, you should acknowledge that. But I think the best part is Joe Rogan stating that religion is just a cult after the leader has died and the followers keep on following.
@@MultipleGrievance Comparing the text of Isaiah to the dead sea scrolls are not word for word, they are only approximately 92.5% matching. Also some of the verses are missing from the dead sea scrolls, indicating that they were later additions. He states that Jesus was claiming he was God and that he knew he was going to be sacrificed. We don't see these claims until the gospel of John. Here are a couple of examples for you.
@SkyfallenVT Wes wasn't comparing the book of isaiah from the dead sea scrolls to current scholarship. He was referring to a much earlier text, then what we have today, though I can't remember which one. Where in the conversation did he say that jesus was claiming he was God? I don't doubt he believes that, but I don't remember that in this conversation. As for jesus knowing, he was going to be sacrificed, that's extremely common knowledge. Every biblical exegete teaches this very thing. Including whichever denomination you go to.
@@MultipleGrievance So I listened to the pod cast again. Wes says when comparing the book of Isaiah to the Dead Sea scrolls it is word for word correct. Now he does mention the oldest form of Isaiah that they knew about was from the mid ages called the Masoretic Test. I am sure that most follows believed that Jesus knew he was going to be sacrificed, but the majority of bible scholars disagree with this. I'm just pointing out the parts Wes gets wrong. If anyone wants to believe these things, that's up to them. But for me it is important that he either states he is unsure, but this is his opinion. Or the majority of scholar say this, but I think this. Don't get me wrong, Wes did a great job of debating Billy Carson and dispelling a lot of these conspiracy theories, and I think that is a great thing.
Trent, could you enable automatic dubbing in Spanish? UA-cam has already released a new update, and it would be a great help for us Spanish-speaking followers.
The claim that past groups of people were "illiterate" seems to be a fallacious assumption on part of the modern mindset (depending on what is meant). Especially in a book and words driven people like the Jews. This is in stark contrast to the reading ability of modernity, which, unfortunately, seems to have waned with the advent of technology doing the thinking for a vast majority of westerners. The gaps between the studied individual and the common man grow wider in a sense. We have more knowledge but no wisdom to use, not realizing that the knowledge we do have is only in our hands and available to begin with because we stand on the shoulders of giants. Same thing goes for Rogan's claim that people in the past believed things that were not true. This claim would ignore that modern people still believe things that are not true every bit as much and just like in the past, these things are contested and claimed to be true (such as an unborn not being a life and men being able to become women).
Yes, I was especially disappointed that Wes seemed to agree with Joe that most ancients were illiterate. I know for one that ancient Jews were nearly 100% literate.
@@StanGraham1 I think it was a partially understandable (not correct) position from Wes. As a Protestant, he must inevitably on some level (explicitly or implicitly) view the past through the lens of "they knew less than we do now". As a historian himself, Wes must argue that the Catholic church has either lost its way or was never the true church. Whichever route he takes, it begins with the premise that he (as a modern man) knows better. Logically fallacious but something, I think, to be expected from the Protestant perspective.
"I'm not a fan of Catholics also sitting back while Protestants do all the heavy lifting". Yeah I've been reflecting on this recently too. Most Christians who I see defending Christ's existence and resurrection - on social media and on the streets - are protestants. Perhaps they make themselves more available for public preaching - and we should too!
Glory to Jesus Christ, it is amazing that our Lord is being vindicated but Wes should do some touch up on his view historically about the Catholic Church

Great video, Trent. I especially agree with your last point about prots doing the heavy lifting in terms of non-christian apologetics. That brings up and awkward consideration, however, when one examines the content of this very channel. What percentage of it is simply dunking on prots or responding to every off-handed remark someone makes about the Catholic Church? If we're just separated brethren as the RCC now believes, why not direct more energy outwardly towards the non-believers.
Thank you for your thoughts on that. In my last 30 videos about 10 of them dealt exclusively with Protestantism, so that would mean 2/3 of my content engages other issues like atheism, Mormonism, abortion, and far right discourse. I also find my content goes through seasons like "red pill" or "Catholic fundamentalism" and right now I'm hitting more Protestant topics, though I do want to engage more "mere Christian" apologetics, which is one reason I selected this as today's topic. However, I think a range of 25-30% of the content being dedicated to defending Christ's one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church would be a good use of my resources.

@Rowgun254 sounds like you just want him to be wrong. I didn't infer that he believed it was absolutely true from how he phrased it. Seemed super obvious that he was just citing how the tradition goes.
Mr Horn makes a good point. I've also noticed protestants focus on evangelism to non-believers whereas Catholics focus on evangelism toward protestants. Is there something about the beautiful but elaborate structures of Catholicism that lead to this?
Online, yes. In person? I see no difference. I suspect the difference online being that each part goes for what it perceives as the low-hanging fruit. For Catholics, the easiest rhetorical target are Protestants because of the added bonus of Church Hisotry, and for Protestants, the easiest rhetorical target are atheists, because of their moral vacuity (not individually, but philosophically).
Well done again, as usual, Trent. God bless you. I also liked your accurate criticism at the end about Catholics and Orthodox inter-fighting and letting our Protestant brothers carry the heavy load of convincing nonbelievers of the Resurrection.
Yea seriously. I watched that Rogan Gibson episode and my heart was racing hearing all the stuff they said about the Catholic church. Id love to hear Trent's spin on it.

I'm Catholic but have attended Protestant services as a caretaker of a wheelchair-bound friend at a non-denominational Protestant church. What I appreciate about being a Catholic is our deep reverence at church and Mass, saying prayers in unison, and the universality and connections with other Catholics worldwide.

Any chance you'll address some of the false claims that Mel Gibson made about the Catholic Church on his Joe Rogan appearance?
It would be interesting to hear that

My heart is warmed to hear Trent recommending Protestant books, and hopefully vice versa

It’s not an either-or issue. Both need to happen...and they can happen at the same time. Especially when Protestants do the “heavy lifting” of proclaiming the risen Jesus, they almost always include their anti-Catholic bias as part of their “preaching.”

I didn't really start growing in my faith, until I started going to bible based churches, as I got older, where we pick up our bibles every sunday, and search, and learn from the word of God,from genesis to revelation, so for me, that is so important, the word says faith comes from hearing, and hearing from the word of God, now I will never say that catholics aren't saved, and I knew a lot of dedicated, Jesus, loving people, but there is a scripture that says, my people perish.Due to lack of knowledge,so to me the bible is our owner's manual, on how to live a successful Godly life,

Catholics are the only ones who truly know Jesus it is the only true church. Protestants don’t believe in the Eucharist so as Jesus said “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you”
Thank you, Trent, this was a thoughtful review. Would you have a book and/or video recommendation on the history of the Catholic bible please?
Wes called himself an historian yet when questioned about why Constantine converted to Christianity he didn’t even know and there was no mention of his vision before battle of Milvian Bridge. Also he said 400 people saw Christ when it was 500 (1 Corinthians 15:6), not an issue but strange for an “expert historian” to not get simple facts right, because even I knew it was 500 lol
As a historian, no historian is expert on all histories worldwide for six millenia. We specialize. Sometimes narrowly
Thanks for the info about Wes. He is completing his PhD so I think he is sort of a work in progress. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it is surprising about what the Constantine history statement.
The Milvian Bridge story was told by Eusebius. It has little historical validity.
Maybe they understand it but don't buy the argument.
Love your new studio. Well deserved
Many thanks Trent, and I hope you, your family and the team ahve a very blessed day!
Great topic choices recently thanks Trent!
How to Show Joe Rogan Christianity is True
- Make him say wow
How to Show a Rational Person Christianity is True
- First, establish a coherent definition of "God"
- Second, show evidence outside of the Bible that this God exists
- Third, show evidence outside of the Bible that shows that what it says is true
That might be a way that convincesyou and fair enough, but to think youand skeptics have a monopoly of the word "rational" is amusing.
@@alisterrebelo9013 I'm not a skeptic. I'm just a person who benefited from not having been brainwashed while I was a child into my regional religion.
@JREPodcast needs to have Trent Horn on
David Bentley Hart and WLC should go n at the same time for a four hour dialogue
Wes vs Trent. I’d pay pay per view to watch that debate. That would be a dream to watch the champions debate each other.
Do you have any examples,?
@@MultipleGrievance
Ex could be JW, SDA, etc?
@@MultipleGrievance Comparing the text of Isaiah to the dead sea scrolls are not word for word, they are only approximately 92.5% matching. Also some of the verses are missing from the dead sea scrolls, indicating that they were later additions.
He states that Jesus was claiming he was God and that he knew he was going to be sacrificed. We don't see these claims until the gospel of John.
Here are a couple of examples for you.
@SkyfallenVT
Wes wasn't comparing the book of isaiah from the dead sea scrolls to current scholarship.
Everyone should check out Apocrypha Apocalypse for dismantling of some of Huff's claims about biblical canon. Really poor and sloppy history on that.

Been waiting for this vid - Thanks, Trent.
10:12 I thought you said "The late Peter Kreeft" and just about leapt out of my seat. Had to listen to it again and thankfully I was mistaken
Trent would be interesting to see you respond to Huff's claims about Catholicism.
Glory to Jesus Christ, it is amazing that our Lord is being vindicated but Wes should do some touch up on his view historically about the Catholic Church
When are you going on JRE Trent?
Okay hope youre next video is correcting the record on the Mel Gibson video. Then we need to get Jimmy Akin on the Joe Rogan podcast.
Watched the debate with Billy Carson and was a bloodbath for billy. Wes huff is moving up in the world.
Hope Rogan sees this.
Thank you for the charitable approach in this video towards Wes. It is refreshing to see followers of Christ laying aside doctrinal differences so that He may be proclaimed.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

That’s so yesterday. That’s some serious V1 language.
Informal heresy? Okay you probably are too then.
@@jaypritchard7122maybe rejection of doctrinal development is a good thing after all.
Thank you for this! A Christ-honoring example to focus on the good and right and true, rather than emphasizing points of disagreement. Gives me hope that the body of Christ can be united someday.
amen to the last part, we Catholics need to step up when it comes to proclaiming the Gospel to non-believers...
💯💯
@@TheCounselofTrent Fair enough. You're still very much loved and appreciated. I'm sure you have plenty of content queued up. But if you're looking for any suggestions, these are topics amongst the young men that I deal with; The ongoing Andrew Tate saga (in keeping with the red pill theme), the Christian's response to natutal evil/disasters (in wake of the LA fires and recent hurricanes), how to deal with the dearth of available women (given the ongoing gender based religio-political divide of our youth), & sports betting (which is becoming increasingly common among young men).

There are alot of things Catholics can learn from protestants. I learned saved by grace through faith. Kinda makes me sad I didn't learn that in the Catholic Church.
Which is strange because it's not hidden knowledge. It's right there in scripture.
No. Catholicism is the fullness of God's truth. Protestanism doesn't have anything the true Church doesn't, except a myriad of false teachings.
The fact that you don't know what you "learned" is just semantics is the real sad part.
@@hamie7624 If your pope is going around saying things like, all religions are paths to God. Wes debunked Billy Carsons' use of a forged document and then hypocritically used a forged document to talk about how the disciples died

Yes. For years we've been hearing from the fringes. It's about time more capable representatives weighed in.
Mr Horn makes a good point. I've also noticed protestants focus on evangelism to non-believers whereas Catholics focus on evangelism toward protestants.
Is there something about the beautiful but elaborate structures of Catholicism that lead to this?
It’s the opposite actually..
Kinda, it was called Vatican II
