First of all Thank you Andrew! Wow you have the e-commerce Blueprint. It only two me five mins to change some things to my site my web designer took a week to do. This video is a game changer for anyone who wants a better e-commerce store/experience.
That's an interesting thought on using the mobile hamburger menu style for desktop...I've never been a fan - I'm not entirely convinced on left vertical menu designs either. However, the mobile menu style is relevant to mobile...however, in my growing opinion, the mobile menu needs to be ignored, or at best considered secondary. Often mobile-first approach is missing anyway so thank you for sharing.

My favorite free theme for a larger product catalog still remains to be Shopfiy’s “Venture”. But just be sure to customize it as much as possible so it doesn’t look like ‘every other’ Shopify store.
