    I switched to 5ths tuning under the guidance of Joel Quarrington over 10 years ago and that has changed my bass playing totally. BTW, I graduated from Northwestern in 1975 and was delighted to see the Maggini of my first great teacher, Warren Benfield.

      Would you recommend fifths tuning to a student? I've been reading about it and it all sounds interesting, but I haven't given it a try yet. Thirds look like a bit of a pain to play.

      Bass in 5ths gives so very much better resonance. But much literature is written to the 4ths tuned bass. I choose 5ths.

    Thank you for the video. I was not aware of bass extensions.

    The invention of the Ingles Cello/Double Bass Stand was a masterstroke. If you've ever tripped over the neck of a side prone positioned instrument, or watched the end pin slide out from under one you attempted to store in a corner, (bass go boom!) you know what I'm talking about. Love mine!

    I would add two innovative bass products: the Lammax endpin by Mario Lamarre (I used this for 3 years) and the Ergo Bass by Petru Iuga (I have used it for a long time)

      Good call! I'm in the market for a German bow right now. Jason has other videos about bows (only French :(. )

      They’re cool! They can make quite a difference on sound and playability depending on the bass.

    Are bass extensions made with the bass, or do they need to be attached?

    • @doublebasshq
      @doublebasshq  Рік тому

      Sometimes they're made at the same time as the bass, but often they are attached later.

      Bass Buggy is a keeper. Bass wheels are a bit unwieldy by comparison. At least that's been my experience. It's as if it has a mind of its own. "...Whooaa!...like where ya goin'?...This way!"

    Once thing that that is NOT a good, the shape of this bass. Been a luthier and bassist most of my life, I do not care for the shape of this bass.
    Probably a fine instrument, but……..,

    I like this video jason,but like someone told before me, the fifth tuning need to be consider, because you don't have a long left arm to use the extension, or big hand with long finger to play a five string.
    As european bassist, i don't see many musician and liuther use or adapt the extension on their basses, i personally bought a second instrument, learn where position are and convert it in fifths in three months, today are 10 month that i am an happy fifther !

      I had an interesting chat with Canadian bassists Travis Harrison about 5ths tuning fairy recently--he dug into a lot of cool topics about the tuning: contrabassconversations.com/2021/07/01/travis-harrison/
