They were just rookies at the time. Already with the vocals!! And yes, EXO's trinity (D.O., Chen and Baekhyun) are just brilliant!
EXO's vocal trinity Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. Superb vocals. Chen has the widest range of vocals (high notes, modulation, techniques), Baekhyun with his high notes, flipping notes. D.O. with his riffs and runs!
It's not a award show.It's was a singing competition show .where mostly veteran singers come to compete with each other. Not a lot of kpop idol participate in it , but rookie exo participated that time because of their singing ability and mass popularity.( Korean general people not really into kpop but EXO was and still is huge among general people too)
Chen got the widest vocal range amongstt the EXOs main vocalists!..He is main vocalist among main vocalist in the group!👐🏻

And now you know. These two are EXO’s top two vocalists (Chen for EXO-M & Baekhyun for EXO-K). They performed on this show to prove to the world that the hype behind EXO vocals was legit.
Thank you so much for this reaction!! Chen is like the best of the best. He is not just the strongest vocalist in EXO but considered to be the best male vocalist in k-pop. EXO's main vocal line in general ranks among the top 6 male vocalist in entire k-pop !
Chen and Baekhyun do all high notes for EXO and Chen also has many lines! D.O does more runs and riffs and he usually starts and ends the song with his soothing voice. All 3 main vocalists are amazing and bring different color to the songs!! Chen is the best kpop vocalist in 3rd gen by professional vocal ranking!
They both are honestly powerhouse of not just exo but whole k-pop.

Both Chenbaek and Changmin are SM fam who r known for their vocals.

But I do agree on that SM is known for having outstanding vocalists and Im not saying that they cant sing or anything because they obviously are very talented. All im trying to say is that changmin is so well rounded when it comes to singing that it shouldve been a well known fact that hes actauly the best vocalist in kpop.
Like I said. I dont mean the others are bad since they are not. We all know chen, baek, D.O, kyuhyun etc.. are amazing!

Actually Chen did the high note on monster right before Chanyeol's rap. I think you really didn't pay attention since you're too into Chanyeol's rap and you don't even know all of their names before. Atleast now you know. Anyway, Chen's one of those great vocalists in Kpop or in general I think. Or should I say, all EXO members. Well, that's just my opinion. 😊

Hey Niclas, thank you for your reaction! I'm so glad you enjoyed this performance. Immortal Songs is a sort of very popular talent show that is a regular show on Korean tv. I am an American who has had a few Korean channels on my cable line-up for many years, so I've gotten to know many shows, dramas, variety shows, game shows, for a while now. I recognize and have my favorite singers, actors and tv personalities.
Immortal Songs is a show that features songs of old, being extremely popular and well known to the public, having been on the radio and having been sung and made popular by entertainers in past years..(like singing a song by Elvis Presley e.g.)...and in this show, performed by singers from today's entertainers, either arranged the same way as the original, or differently to put a spin on the song for more effect. There are judges that critique the singers at the end, and as the next, different song featured is performed by yet another performer, the two performances are rated by numbers of likes I believe, and the lowest score goes home, while the highest score goes on to challenge the next performer at the next show, with a different song. The show gathers all high scores as each performer tries to win the following performer, and bring them back on the next show to do it all over again. Yes Baek and Chen were babies, but they did a great job. Unfortunately they did not go on, as someone else blew the audience away, and that's a shame, because I love this performance, and to have such talent at such a young age still baffles me. Exo is filled with incredible talent. I wish you could do personal, individual guides of each member and see the different styles of singing each member brings, that when combined, makes that classic Exo sound. If you ever are able to indulge us viewers, I would love to see you do all 9 individual guides by Cesar Oh...please consider this, doing one guide a week would be so satisfying..
and Cesar Oh's guides are the best, most updated (2020-2021) and you can familiarize yourself a little more with these incredible members. Please, please, consider doing this, you will find many people would love to see this as well. Thanks Niclas!💙🌺

They my standard in vocal..
Chen was called the EXO glory main-voalist by exo C-fans. He has gorgeous talent and clear low notes. He can easily emit loud and penetrating high notes. Even in the concert of intense dancing for a long time, his voice is still relaxed and not jittery. His first solo was listened to by about 1 million people a day in Korea (for comparison, active young idol groups like nct and seventeen are only about 200,000), and his ost mv has hundreds of millions of views on youtube.

Immortal song 2 it's a show so it got different K-pop groups on it or Korean singers/rappers that sang classical songs of the older generations in Korea that were really popular at their time. About chen, the thing is d.o doesn't have more lines then d.o but in the beginning of exo they were as two sub units, the first sub unit is exo k- the members there were: suho(leader, sub vocalist), d.o(main vocal),kai(main dancer, center, sub vocalist), baekhyun (main vocalist) ,sehun(main dancer,main rapper, sub vocalist) and chanyeol (main rapper, sub vocalist) and they were singing in the Korean language. The other unit was exo-m the members were: kris(leader, rapper), Tao (rapper), luhan( dancer and vocalist), lay( main dancer, sub vocalist), xiumin (sub vocalist, sub dancer and sub vocalist) and chen( main vocalist) and they were singing almost the same songs as the k sub unit so basically chen and luhan had the same roles as as d.o and baekhyun. Anyway kris tao and luhan left exo in the years between 2014-2015 and then exo became a big group and their leader is suho. Back to the chen thing because you heard the last comeback you didn't heard chen at all and the reason is because he is in the military, but if you will hear their other albums you will see how many lines he gets, chen is really talented and a great vocalist, well I'm not here to attack or something but i think it's a good information for you 🙂🙂

Can you believe that Chen and Baekhyun's performance of "Really I Didn't Know" was from more than 6 years ago? So this was when EXO were first starting out, which just goes to show you what amazing vocalists Chen and Baekhyun have always been.
Immortal Songs 2 is a weekly singing competition show where Idols and famous singers go on the show and compete against each other to be voted the best performance of the show by the audience. Each week there is a theme and most of the time the theme has something to do with a famous older well known singer, group, composer or artist or a specific genre or era of music, and all the songs are remixed covers of songs from the artist that is featured as the theme of that week's show. For instance, they have even done English weeks where the theme of the week is Michael Jackson songs or Michael Bolton songs and all the singers who competed on that episode sang Michael Jackson songs or Michael Bolton songs. (Michael Bolton was even on the show to critique the performances.)
So the point of the show is to take a famous old song and to remake it into something new and amazing or to blow the audience away with your vocal talent. Each singer or duo or group goes on the show and competes against all the other guests on the show and the audience votes for whomever they think had the better performance. And every performance is 100% live so they always have a live band or orchestra. Each performance is given a numerical score depending on how many times the audience pushed the "thumbs up" button. The person with the highest score becomes the winner of the show that week and takes home a trophy.
immortal Songs 2 is a show a lot of Idols go on when they are first starting out to help gain popularity and recognition for themselves and their group. What makes this show unique is it's a show with singers and artists across the spectrum of ages and musical genres -- artists such as Chen and Baekhyun who are famous Idol singers in their 20s could be competing against a famous rock 'n' roll singer or band who could have been in the industry for 20 years, etc. And not only are the artists who compete diverse, but so too is the audience -- Immortal Songs 2 is very popular across all age demographics, from teenagers who love Idol Kpop music to grandparents that listen to traditional Korean music. It spans all generations -- teens like the show because they get to see their favorite Idols and grandparents like the show because most of the time the guests cover older classic songs that they love and grew up on, etc. The show is all about impressing the audience with your performance and it's a really big honor to win.
However, can you believe, that even as impressive as Chen and Baekhyun's performance was, they didn't win that episode? I'm pretty sure they won their round which means they beat the person they were going directly up against, and they might have beat the next one or two people to compete that week, but over all they didn't outscore everyone on that show that day. I can't remember who ended up winning -- it's been so long since I have seen the whole episode -- but they must have had a really fun and/or impressive performance to top what Chen and Baekhyun did. 😄
The guy with the sunglasses is another one of the contestants/singers on the show and he is backstage waiting for the results. I think he was the one that Chen and Baekhyun went up against to win their first round.
The lady with the fluffy hair that you saw grooving to the song was the featured artist, composer, songwriter, etc. ( I can't remember exactly who she was) that was the theme of that week's show and she gave feedback after each of the performances.
If I remember right, this song is a really famous old Korean song which was originally sung by a woman and she is singing to and about her love that she has been separated from. It's about how during the Korean War, North and South Korea were separated and when that happened couples and families were separated. Some North Koreans escaped and went to South Korea while others stayed behind. North Korea is a dictatorship, and because of the ongoing war between the two sides, people who are living in North Korea have no contact with South Korea. In 2018 North and South Korea had a meeting day (not sure if that is what it is called ) and North Koreans were able to meet and talk to their South Korean family members for 5 minutes at the border between the two countries. I read a story about a man that was brought over to South Korea as a baby during the war by his parents. While they were escaping they got separated and the mom was left in North Korea and the son and father made it to and lived the rest of their lives in South Korea.They hadn't seen or spoken to the mom since the day they were separated. During the meet up day the son, who was now 75 years old, got 5 minutes to meet his mother, who was in her 90s, for the first time since he was a young boy. So this song is a very sad and beautiful song that showcases the vocal powerhouses that are Chen and Baekhyun's voices.

This performance makes me so happy yet also makes me cry, every time without fail. I cannot imagine not being an EXO fan as being a fan is part of my core, but this performance is so exceptional I am always thankful for more non-fans to be exposed to it. Whenever people say to me that boybands don't have talent - there is this. Goosebumps.
I hope you now see why many think Chen is the best vocalist in EXO and for many in Kpop as a whole. "The Best' is a matter of personal preference, but I hope you get why it is so for so many.

In 2013, baekhyun vocals techniques is still weak and unstable. Many people always downgraded his vocal but now he can hit the highest note in exo and in 3rd gen kpop male vocalist, the 'Genius Idol' of kpop. I'm proud of his massive improvement
