The dog in the softbank advert is actually supposed to be the dad of the family, it's quite confusing and never explained, they've asked Dad why are you a dog and the reply was along the lines of don't worry about it.
The "acid" one was the Japanese singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She essentially parodies idol styles in her songs and videos, often combining the "sweet" visuals with mildly off-putting visuals. She's great.
+RabidDogma And if you like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, check out Hamada Bamyu Bamyu, which is the comedian Hamada Masatoshi who did a parody on Kyary and she liked it so much that they actually performed together. Hamada actually won best new artist for "Nande ya nen nen nen" (What the hell hell hell)
To put some perspective into this, yes the Japanese know that a lot of their commercials are strange, and that's the point. First, they see the goal as to be as entertaining as possible much of the time (in the ads at least), and so they push the limits of what is seen in these commercials. Also, consider that much of the adult Japanese lifestyle is a hard and disciplined work lifestyle; the last thing they want to do when they're at home is to see a boring ad. Weird sells because weird gives them a kick of entertainment with their ad.
+RabidDogma Well it's actually because of Japanese anti-competition laws. Japanese companies can't do commercials claiming to be better than their competition like you see in AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile commercials so they try to make it memorable by being weird, even by Japanese standards.
The breathmint commercial was artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu who's kind of like Japan's Lady Gaga + Katy Perry only... Better. Way better. Gaga even stole one of Pamyu's outfits in front of her -face- when visiting.
"Body of Christ!" "Amen!" made me choke with laughter. And I'll admit that I like the Furriest Irish Guy Ever even if he always looks massively hungover.
A little bit of explanation to those commercials: we have no idea what's happening not only because we don't know Japanese, but also because we haven't seen the rest. The ads have a sort of story going on in them, and we're missing out on the context. Example: in every ad, the Calbee dog troll yeti thing helps a kid with their problem. Now, if you know what's supposed to happen in the commercial, it's way easier to understand it. Set aside the fact that the ads are a merry-go-round of wtf anyway.
is it naive of me to wonder why this channel hasn't done video of irish people watching the boondock saints. i just always thought it would be interesting.
+Shockeye00 It's the equivalent of Americans watching a movie about two brothers who are the descendants of donald trump followers who left the US for China. These two brothers then go around shouting "god bless the USA! TRUMP FOREVER" while saying protestant prayers as they go around shooting everyone. And actual americans would just wonder who the hell these guys are.
if I'm not mistaken, direct competition is considered rude so most adverts try to express a feeling that is then attached to a product. most American ads are used for direct competition with other similar products and therefore focus on selling an actual thing rather than a feeling.
Yes, that one was another whole level of insane... But really, there's a whole 'nother realm of crazy they couldn't get to, they only had less than 5 minutes.
In the 90s I found a VHS tape in the trash. It was in a case with some computer printout DBZ art on it. So I put it in my player and it was a raw undubbed/unsubbed set of DBZ episodes from the Buu saga. It must have been taped off of Japanese television because it was complete with commercials. One of the commercials was for Pretz and it had a bunch of schoolgirls rushing to get on a train. I wish I still had the tape. But I moved so many times that it's long gone.
the guy with the back pain patch is actually a member of a famous japanese boyband. he has a few professional weekly tv shows including one where he cooks for local and international celebs.... they don't read into stuff the way we do in japan so they might not see it the same way we are hahaha
+Andrea Lafford they were joking where he said, "Japanese are a different culture from us" and the guy who spit out the water was reacting as in "no wayyyy" but obviously sarcastically
Charles Min ahahah that is funny I just didn't hear him say japanese. I'm Irish myself and love to banter and sarcasm is my first language. Thanks you Charles 👌
I was thinking of showing this to my Japanese students, to show the differences between our cultures. But feckin' hell lads: every fecking thing you said was so sexual, I can't show this to Japanese teenagers.
Studies have shown that Japanese people are overall sceptic about ads that show off the product straight off. (t comes off as crude...or like the company is lying somewhere. "a good product will sell itself" etc. Thus it is much more effective to bring in "elements of surprise", even if the product takes a back seat in the commercial. People will remember the product anyway from "that crazy commercial" and are more likely to buy it when they come across it in stores.
The dog in the softbank advert is actually supposed to be the dad of the family, it's quite confusing and never explained, they've asked Dad why are you a dog and the reply was along the lines of don't worry about it.
Alan Campbell Kind of like those sprint commercials were the dad is a hamster
eluna354 SoftBank owns 80% of Sprint.
+Alex Batey same
Alan Campbell ????? What was that lmao
"Body of Christ, amen. Nom." ~Best line ever
If only communion were that interesting 😂
lol
"You wouldn't be skipping these on UA-cam." haha that was brilliant
The "acid" one was the Japanese singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She essentially parodies idol styles in her songs and videos, often combining the "sweet" visuals with mildly off-putting visuals. She's great.
+RabidDogma Yess she's awesome!
+RabidDogma SoOo... She's like the Japanese, Female Version of Weird Al? I'll Allow It!
thanx for pointing that out
+Roy Dysart More like Ween honestly. Like mostly music driven but a consistent sarcastic theme.
I'm a pretty solid BuzzFeed fan, but these guys are like 10x better.
2:48 "Body of Christ............Amen!" *NOM*
That was so good, I should have thought of it!

+originalShorai Really?! I did not know that.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. She's fucking great.
The breathmint commercial was artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu who's kind of like Japan's Lady Gaga + Katy Perry only... Better. Way better. Gaga even stole one of Pamyu's outfits in front of her -face- when visiting.

+jackal59 which one, David? he's gorgeous
+jackal59 or the beardy one, who is also so attractive
the Breo mint commercial has Kyary Pamyu Pamyu!!! I use to listen to her all the time!

Softbank isn't actually a bank commercial. It's a mobile carrier commercial. The name itself is very confusing.
Yep. And the dog is called "Dad".
+Meghan Hirsh Dad? Is that you?
HEY BILLY MAYS HERE
I love the Hello Kitty shirt! Total win.
And 2:49 was the best. "Body of Christ, Amen! Nom!" Haha made my day.
"I'm really good at catching things in my mouth." He's too funny.
Dat Chinese music tho
+ApliPi I'm glad someone else noticed xD
Not even proper Chinese music.
ApliPi I was waiting for someone else to notice. 😂 the music is Chinese
I was like ''wtf, I am ignorant about foreign cultures, but one should be really dumb to mistake two tunes''
It's a great song wherever it comes from just based on the amount of percussion used. Anything with a lot of xylophone is an automatic win in my book!
2:48 Is that Kyary Pamyu Pamyu?
Literally a Irish buzzfeed
*An irish
At this point I'm only watching for the accent and irish slang terms... they're addicting to the ears
*copy
Lauren Mac Namara only slightly better :D
Your opinion not mine
The humor of the facts crew has me in tears OMG LOL
"where'd that river come from" lol good question
Hearing Candy made me happy
is it naive of me to wonder why this channel hasn't done video of irish people watching the boondock saints. i just always thought it would be interesting.
+LtLokiKCJ I've always wondered what people in Ireland (AKA East Boston) think of that movie.
Shockeye00 they actually have irish people watching that film or movie as you say in America type it in and you'll see it
The body of Christ xD he is my favorite
"I've had so much ride" is an expression that needs to enter my vocabulary.
Irish people reacting to JAPANESE commercials with Chinese music in the background. 😂
the giant dog thing was terrifying
"They digitally removed that dogs anus" @ 2:00. LOL !!!!
I fangirled when I seen kyary pamyu pamyu
TBH I fucking love Kyari Pamyu Pamyu I don't understand half of what she says but I think it's amazing
LMAO@1:57-that dog has such massive tail strength he can power a house to fly into space?! Hoooeleeesheeet!
2:49 - A truly clever momen. "Body of Christ - Amen!"
"body of christ amen..." oh my - i almost spewed my vodka all over the screen - you rock! (im catholic) yer insane hehe i love it
if I'm not mistaken, direct competition is considered rude so most adverts try to express a feeling that is then attached to a product. most American ads are used for direct competition with other similar products and therefore focus on selling an actual thing rather than a feeling.
I went to a soft bank store and EVERY commercial on their TVs had Tommy Lee Jones in it with the soft bank dog.
My grandpa was in the Navy and my mom was born in Japan. I'm kinda glad she left at the age of four..
who is the guy in the black hoodie? he is stunning!
Ronan Grace
Thanks
"Their adverts are far more exciting than ours because you literally never know what's going to happen." True that.
2;30....Breath mint....?...or hallucinatory drug? Bizarre....
I love Asian ads, they are the best . . . I wish all ads were that entertaining.
Golden Bomber were in the eagle house one
Whats the music thats played for the advert at 1:36?
Chinese music at the end ?? Why ?
Because it is fking funny.
they are showing how ignorant and simple they are :V ... edgy time...
I unironically love that CANDY CANDY song
Kyary-chan
at 1:38 I was like: "OH!!! it's Golden Bomber!!" (they are a J-pop, pop punk, comedy rock band)
way to end it with the most typical chinese melody possible.
Well they began it with an imperialist flag what did you expect lmao
Kyary!!!!
Aww you didnt include the ad where the people in morph suits meet and curl over each other to make sushi...
Yes, that one was another whole level of insane... But really, there's a whole 'nother realm of crazy they couldn't get to, they only had less than 5 minutes.
The dog at 1:55 reminds me of the Greater Dog, from Undertale. And hey, at least these ads are entertaining. XD
1:45 Yeaah, "Birdemic" shout out! :)
In the 90s I found a VHS tape in the trash. It was in a case with some computer printout DBZ art on it. "japanese are a different culture to us"
i never would have thought that in a million years!
Should have showed them Gummi Sours ad
Oh, that one where a guy in a frog suit runs after the kid, and when he falls down in terror, the frog gives him a Gummi...? Terrifying. :)
Ooooh wouldn't have noticed it, but the paper tongue at 2:44 says ブレオタベロ (bureo tabero), which is basically an order to "eat Breo!"
the guy with the back pain patch is actually a member of a famous japanese boyband. he has a few professional weekly tv shows including one where he cooks for local and international celebs.... they don't read into stuff the way we do in japan so they might not see it the same way we are hahaha
what's funny is softbank is a cellphone provider. :3
why oh why does she have to be so pretty??????
this is fun mate lovit!
what's the name of the guy dressed all in black with the red head?
Nataliaa Davey Reilly
Us there a video with Irish adverts?
The thumbnail picture is hilarious 😂
'If that was a radio ad,I'd probably need to pull over my car and have a cigarette. That was intense'
Funniest thing ever.
But... wasn't that Chinese music at the end? (is American, may be incorrect.)
i'm surprised no one is mentioning golden bomber. i know they aren't that popular or relevant, but they are such a good comedy band lol
what did that guy say at the end when the other spit out his drink? didn't quite catch that
+Andrea Lafford they were joking where he said, "Japanese are a different culture from us" and the guy who spit out the water was reacting as in "no wayyyy" but obviously sarcastically
Charles Min ahahah that is funny I just didn't hear him say japanese. I'm Irish myself and love to banter and sarcasm is my first language. Thanks you Charles 👌
Sweet! Kyary pamyu pamyu was in that mint commercial.
Damn that man in the dark gray jacket/hoodie is hot!
Lol this just makes my
Day
The guy in the black hoodie is gorgeous!!
Why'd the guy spit his drink out at the end?? I'm confused
+Nicola Paterson It's a joke. Like he's fake shocked by what the other guy just said. I thought it was funny too.
0:57 that look tho.
Haha believe me, you guys didnt even get the craziest commercials of Japan
I was thinking of showing this to my Japanese students, to show the differences between our cultures. But feckin' hell lads: every fecking thing you said was so sexual, I can't show this to Japanese teenagers.
I was once in Japan for 36 hours. Everything was as weird as these commercials and I felt like a complete fish out of water! (liked it though)
I've had so much ride. I like that phrase!
you know it's awesome when it's japanese! i laughed my ass off 😂
Golden Bomber in the Soft Bank Commercial OMG! :D
They need to watch the Japanese advert called inochi. I so want to see their reactions!
This was awesome.
Softbank is a cellphone company and the dog is their mascot.
I love the LoTR reference XD
I didn't know that Golden Bomber made a commercial (why for a bank??)... This video was quite informative for a visual kei fan.

Japanese commercials are the best commercials in the world.

Was the woman in the mustard colored cardi on the show Sons of Anarchy?
Honestly I love the big, tall guy because he kinda reminds me of a cuddly lumberjack.
Do one on bluegrass music!!!!
The breath mint add is actually a music video called candy candy
Softbank isn't a bank as far as I know. It's a mobile phone carrier.
That was that girl who did the Ponponpon music video! She's so cute! 😀😀😀
''Shot goop over her food''... 😂😂😂😂😂😂
4:17 The adverts work.
they should watch the funniest super bowl commercials from over the years
Eh. I like these videos. Guess I'll subscribe. If it sounds like I'm not interested that's not the problem. I just woke up lol.
What are Irish commercials like?
NO NONSENSE.IE!!!
emlwalshe That's probably the weirdest ad we have, at least that I can think of
Search 22222 1890 222222 into the search bar or 11850 and they are our best "irish ads" they are jingles
They tend to be funny
UshioKiss I don't know, but I hope they contain lots of beautiful red headed women.
Last music that you set as Background is Chinese.
