This is one of your best videos, Morj. Half because it's one of Oda's best examples of fantastic writing. I'm really glad you went back and showed the consistency of themes with Sanji, to establish just how much 1031 says about him. Only shame is that you mentioned a couple things I wanted to talk about myself in a video I might make!
This was the best character development in One Piece imo. Zoro is my favorite character but for sure I relate to Sanji much more. After this chapter I put Sanji up there as my 2nd favorite Strawhat. Glad Oda gave us this moment along with showing the brother relationship Sanji and Zoro have.
Other than being the embodiment of a code I think oda also made sanji to be the embodiment of passion. His passion is what drives his resolve and his ideals.
That's exactly the meaning behind his dream for the All Blue, the All Blue is stated to have every type of fish and cuisine avalaible, that way a cook can express himself however he wants, its the perfect canvas for Sanji's personal passion as a cook and expression of his sense of identity after having almost lost all of that in his Germa days. Its also the embodiment of freedom in that sense of expressing your passion, which is why Luffy says his dream of Pirate King (AKA the most free person in the world) can't come true without Sanji's dream realized.
@Bhaskar ojha all the strawhats have dreams. Ambition still qualifies as a dream it’s just that Zoro’s dream is more related to ambition drive and accomplishment while sanji’s is related to idealism, Wonder and romance. Luffy’s dream is related to both.
Although we didn't see a lot of Sanji's "Heroic Moment" after the time-skip, I think what became more frequent, ever since Punk Hazard, is his "Kindness Moment" that snowballed into a big moment for the crew. His Punk Hazard decision to drag Kinemon along and to help pretty much gave Kinemon a reason to trust pirates while his decision to save the marines (in Sanji's style) made them friendly to them at the end. His Dressrosa's decision to trust Viola (in Sanji's style) gave them an ally and the clue to Doflamingo's plan before things turn severe for them. Zou and Whole Cake Arc are nuff said. Along with the whole theme of "genetically-modified human/soldiers" that started since Punk Hazard, Oda seems to slowly build up Sanji since way back before throwing us this culmination of Sanji's "power-up dilemma moment". I think I have to switch my favorite character in One Piece depending on how Sanji's arc ends.
A lot of people pay to much atention to sanji's pervyness and declarations in thriller bark, but here we are shown that he sacrifices becoming invisible in favor of his ideals
@@twotwon4201 I dont deny that, after the time skip the pervert gags have become very tiresome. I talk about thriller bark, where I saw a lot of people really upset about sanji's fight with absalom. Where he comically embraces his pervyness, with a lot of people saying that they expected more from the strawhat cook. Well if there were any doubts in this chapter he gives up the invisibility in favor of his ideals
@@juanmarodriguez6010 I really think the problem is exaggerated. The only legitimate timen it should have been annoying was Fishman Island, since then Oda has turned it down to his normal amount of times each arc. Like it's like two maybe three times and arc and was like that pre timeskip as well. I just think people were so mad at Fishman Island that it clouds their viewing of it , he has legit had alot of great moments post ts that had nothing to do with his pervertedness yet everytime its brought up as if it happens the majority of the arc and like kts all we see or something.
Oda's level of build-up was insane! Everything about Sanji, from his blood being focused on during Fishman island, to hell's memories, to his hairstyle shifting to the right just so the reader can tell how his left eyebrow curves inward unlike his family(who we learn about in WCi)... the littlest changes in his character good or bad at the time, have paid off in this chapter. It all came full circle, damn!
The fight against yourself is always one of the hardest, even more than physically ones. That's why I love WCI so much. Seeing Sanji struggle so much... his family abused him so many times and yet he still wanted to save them. What an amount of strenght that takes is beyond imagination. He felt free after escaping, knowing he was not like his father/brothers and now in just a few moments everything changed. It was surprising the change came in this arc. I thought it would be later. So I hope everything will turn out well. He needs to see the All Blue, that Luffy will create by destroying the Red line. Also I kinda hope Pudding could be a key to "cure" him, if he looses his emotions (temporary).
Whole Cake Island might be one of the more underrated arcs in One Piece.. the only thing I would ask for more is a solid conclusion to the Sanji x Pudding relationship, hopefully we get it before the series is over.
Morj morj morj morj morj, you are the Oda/One Piece whisperer man, you're just able to crack the code that Oda is using to write One Piece and help those who want to understand do just that. What a sensational video man, you just might have made Sanji my favourite One Piece character and that spot is constantly contest between Jinbe and Luffy. Wow. I have a massive and profound new love for Sanji thank you. *Goes to find Sanji statue to buy*
dude JUST had the longest arc in the history of one piece focused on one straw hat's arc adn backstory and STILL people are crying as if he's not getting anything lmao
This video should be called: "A love letter to Sanji" Seriously we should never stop trusting Oda. Even when we have some controversial scenes or something that seems odd about an acr it almost always turns out to be part of Oda's vision for his story.
@@ardi08 It's honestly getting annoying how bloodthirsty the one piece fanbase is. If Oda did things the way the one piece fanbase wanted, this Sanji moment wouldn't even exist because Sanji would have never used the Raid Suit. Why not just relax and wait til the arc ends?
@- SageAegis - Except, the kinemon stuff and the big mom memory loss is consistent with oda;s style throughout the story. Dont get me wrong i dont love it either, but thats how one piece was from the get go.
Another aspect of Sanji's decision in 1031 that I think is kind of overlooked is how it resolves the problematic "perverted" side of him that's been an issue in the past, especially in Post-Timeskip Sanji's characterization. It seemed like he was getting goofier and more unlikeable because he kept pushing in that problematic direction, and then he gets the raid suit which literally allows him to fulfill his "secondary" dream of being able to be invisible and peep on women in baths. He used it twice already to do just that in Part 1 and then later visiting the prostitute area of Onigashima during the Raid. Except now, when presented with the idea that he might actually hurt women if he keeps using the Raid suit, he destroys it, in a way rejecting that perverted side while still upholding the "chivalry" that makes him unable to ever hit or fight a woman. I'm sure he'll still be somewhat of a pervert in the future but I think now that his "secondary" dream is officially and forever dead, not because of circumstance but because of his own choice, we'll start to see a new angle to that "perverted" side where it's more based on being a "sensitive ladies man" like how Senor Pink was portrayed or the way Pudding sees him whenever he did impressive heroism like rescuing Pound from Oven at super speed.
Random thought: what if the whole reason behind Sanji's sudden reveal of the invisibility dream in Thriller Park was to add more impact to him giving up the raid suit (and that dream by extension)?
In Oda we trust. i cant count how many times have Oda made some weird decisions and created moments that are controversial, making people doubt him, thinking maybe he is rushing, maybe he's bored of OP, this and that... but we simply arent on the same plane of intellect as him. the way this man planned out his story in both the most minute and the grandest ways simultaneously is purely immaculate. this moment for Sanji this chapter, the choices that he made, cleared up every doubts that people had for him this entire Post timeskip saga, and put everything into perspective. its truly is a masterpiece, and Oda aint even done yet!
Its just barely hitting me that sanji did exactly what I wanted. Although it grew on me i wasnt a fan of sanji using the jerma suit, i always thought he was cooler using just his own strength. Sanji literally destroyed the suit and used his og transformation right after 😭😭 one piece will literally never miss
Sanji's character arc is the perfect reason why we should never judge something about a character before we have the full picture. Rushing to conclusions and assuming makes an ass out of you. I'm looking at you Drizzt 👀
@@Doflaminguard Haha, you got a point! I think womanizer can also describe someone who is into a lot of women. So there's a hint of truth on that part. But still! He's anything but toxic imo.
Thank you for putting it into words, Morj! I don't like people's implications that Sanji would be cooler if he could turn off that code and go full Germa. Sanji is far more interesting a character when he refuses to sacrifice his ideals, in the exact same way that Luffy and Zoro do
'Whole cake island answers the question Wano raises'. What a great description of the structure of this spectacular narrative method. Love it. Oda is a genius.
I think Sanji's question on what kind of person does Luffy need was also a question to the audience. Would you rather have Sanji strong but with no emotions or actually have a character?
I would prefer Sanji to stop being weird around women. I get that Sanji likes Pretty Ladies but the nose bleeds and turning into stone is a bit much. Also Sanji doesn't have to hit woman but if woman attack Sanji he should call Zoro or run away.

I think Queen in this chapter represents the members of the audience that don't understand Sanji's character arc and just want to see him throw away his code and just do cool power scaling stuff.
I can see that. Personally, I like him with his code and his character. Does it mean that he makes things difficult at times for himself certainly, but following one's principles can be difficult at times. Anyone can follow their beliefs when there is no difficulty or risk in doing so.
There is something memorable going on under the surface of this mega arc. Betrayal seems like the obvious main theme but idk I think there is something else.
Having sanji being my favorite character for almost a decade now this chapter was fuckin amazing. I never thought that sanji would get a moment like this done in such a good way. Great analysis on it morj!
Itll be cool if sanjis arc started in WCI and ended in wano , zoros arc starts in wano and ends in elbaf (w them being great warriors and all right up zoros alley) and then ussops arc starts in elbaf and ends on laugh tale or something w him doing something heroic and brave
Honestly Morj, I think this is where you're at your absolute best. Your analysis videos are by far the best on UA-cam (maybe with Ohara not too far behind). I'm not always a fan of your theory videos (though I never miss them because they are always interesting) but when you have the all the material for character arcs, story arcs, etc... you're in your element. The extent to which to you can tie in threads that Oda leaves throughout One Piece is amazing. Keep doing what you're doing man, huge fan here and I will always look forward to watching your videos.
It was also because of his code that Gin didnt kill him. He had Sanji dead to rights, but because of who he was, Gin couldn’t bring himself to deliver the final blow
Everyone thought that this arc was gonna be Zoro and Sanji turned out to be the dark horse. I am really really glad that Sanji got such a good moment, but also a little sad that Zoro didn't. And I mean character development vise not powerups or badass moments.
Really good analysis, needed some Sanji love on UA-cam, this chapter was truly a focus on his character in the long term, so many thoughts on Sanji crossed my mind whilst reading it, but this video perfectly describes how Oda has been manoeuvring Sanji, and his person.
I am blessed to have so many talent youtuber making great One Piece analysis video especially you!!! This is the way I have in mind with Sanji and the way you organize and present it, I have so many resonance and inspiration! Greatly impressed and appreciated!
I always liked sanji, but this video really made me appreciate his character a lot more. I'm looking forward to seeing our boy shine even more during wano.
My favorite part of this whole inner dialogue was how he put Luffy's needs first. He really is fit to be fit the wings of the Pirate King (I know other translations state one of the wings, but official did state wings in general)
Makes sense tho if we consider that he himself is a bit less ambitious than zoro for example who wants to be the WSS Seems like the SHs that are not so ambitious simply inherit the Captain's ambitions, thereby also inheriting his will too
That's just Queen's speculations. Idk if Oda is trying to put some ideas on our heads by saying it through some character, but we can't speak facts about the lunarian race yet
@@brannenthegod it is theorized, but not implied. If that the case, every user should have an special supernatural unexplainable attack. Besides, it's not confirmed that zoro has that
Sticking to his code = holding on to himself, his humanity and individuality. It hits harder when you remember he was almost striped from it at birth, and is still running away from that fate
Videos like these make being a one piece fan feel like being sliced bread. Amazing analysis of Sanji. Truth be told, out of the monster trio, he's the most human and easiest to identify with. Which is weird because he gets so much hate from the fan base.
Theory: Sanji will end up not finishing his transformation but still not be able to undo what has happened. That way he’ll end up with one eyebrow flipped but the other one stays the same as old. So that it finally gets symmetric. Like a normal human. No science kid. While at that he decides to tie up his hair or leave it down as bangs on both sides of the face.
Zoro and Sanji defeat King and Queen Zoro's medicine wears off, and all of his previous injuries accumulate all at once (thriller bark callback) He sees Sanji not as himself He begrudgingly fights tooth and nail through the pain of his injuries as he prepares himself kill his friend, because fulfilling Sanji's wishes is worth Zoro risking his life for. Zoro, with reluctant resolve, puts his sword in his mouth, and through gritted teeth, and pain in his voice says "damn it.." as tears fall from his face. Sanji has flashes of horrible childhood memories from his brothers paired with scenes of himself committing atrocities as a Germa warrior of science. He wants to die after seeing himself fall so low.. then we see his memories shift to ones with his true brothers.. Luffy and especially Zoro (maaaaaybe quick flashes of the rest of the crew too). Zoro is about to swing. Then, Zoro's memories (first person) with Sanji are shown.. highlighting their friendship throughout the series.. and in that moment Zoro hesitates... giving Sanji the time he needed to revert back to his old self. In Post-Wano, they don't outright share their inner turmoils with each other. Instead, Sanji will playfully bicker to Zoro that he was too unreliable to handle the task that he gave him. And that he wouldn't have been able to beat him anyways. Zoro will blame the medicine and/or call him a shitty cook, then threaten to cut him. Sanji: "You wanna go mosshead?!" Etc etc
It would be awesome if it ends on another nothing happened moment where Zoro is unable to kill Sanji and falls from his injuries but Sanji regains his emotions just in time to catch him and carry him back to where the crew was and when they ask about their injuries and what happened both Sanji and Zoro say "nothing happened."
Yo. I haven't even watched the video, but if you reread the chapter, check the SFX in the panels before sanji attacks queen using hells memories. The SFX used in the 1st panel on the last page is the same used (the shhhh) SFX for going invisible. Sadly we'll have to wait for it to be animated for confirmation but I'm believing sanji can now go invisible without the raid suit.
I honestly don't think oda would go in dept in explaining the raid suit's invisibility power if sanji could eventually do it on his own. I don't see how it would make sense unlike the raid suit which mimics the environment in a complex way more akin to camouflage. Who knows though
He also said usopp can save Robin while he cannot due to fighting Jura or whatever the furry fuck wolf's name is. He is ALWAYS about saving the ladies but let's his team be the one to do it if he's needed elsewhere which is something I never picked up on, and for him to rely on nami AND Robin to save him from female opponents is some of the greatest shit
Then fanboys go on and say One Piece is not well written. I think it was the great David Mamet who said most people can’t really tell what’s good or bad writing. They just know how they felt. I think the feelings for Sanji-- after months of haters and so called fans claiming Oda hates Sanji( An infantile notion, claiming an artist hates his own creation) without giving Oda time to payoff the arc that began in WCI. Oda contrary to new narratives now, IS a calculating writer. This is not a series where one must expect immediate change every chapter, and twist after twists or death willynilly. Most of these OP narrative are easily debunked with a little careful re-reads. He has the trappings of certain plot mechanisms and character development in play from they begin and from when he has devised them. Here in this chapter, we saw that in full view. Kudos to Oda. Btw is anyone here a graphic designer for cheap? Starting analysis channel soon. If Zoro is the Right Hand of the King- Sanji is his shield. He would consistently put for his life to defend the crew at any risk to himself.
At this point i only watch the positive morj videos, while morj is still fine so many of the comments thrive on his negative ones. this vid a banger tho.
Yes whole cake island definitely establish that luffy will choose sanji as he is than sanji as a germa soldier. By the end of wci arc judge asks luffy why he will go all the way to challenge a yonko to get sanji back listing all the things that sanji is different from his brother meaning to say to luffy that sanji is weak but instead luffy thinks that judge is listing everything that make sanji great. So there is no doubt that luffy will choose sanji because he is him rather than choose a sanji thats like germa. Really love the video great explanation at what defines sanji as a charcter!
I feel like all of the Netflix live action cast members should mandatorily watch a Mr Morj character analysis of their own characters, just so that they can perform to the best of Oda's intentions for them.
Thats not how acting works, an actor needs to learn and understand their character. But it needs to be their understanding in order to make it good. The tricky part the cast needs to do is to find an interpretation of the character on their own that adapts Oda's writing in a way that satisfies the story and audience while also bringing something new to the performance. The directors should be the ones to pay more attention to these videos so they can guide the actors as they work their own craft.
Top level content Morj. These are the types of videos I subscribed for. You piece together everything and make a compelling statement as to what makes a character think. These things help us add layers to how we already enjoy a character or a story. Thank you!
Since u pointed out that Sanji gets rewarded when he sticks to his code like he did in whole cake island. Sanji saves family and they help him escape, feeds yonko and they aren’t captured, can’t hurt pudding after everything she did and she ends up falling in love with him. So with that being said I wanna ask do you think Sanji will be rewarded for destroying the raid suit if he thinks it’ll alter his moral code and conduct and maybe Vegapunk may give him something kind of a stretch but I do want to see Sanji rewarded for staying true.
I feel like the call to Zoro is Oda trying to mislead us on how this issue will be resolved. I'm betting my chips on Oda using Nami as the driving factor to solve this problem, with a scene mirroring the slap she gave him in Whole Cake Island after fighting Luffy, as it wasn't effective back then when he was pretending to be something he was not.
@@emperorluffy6001 that'd definitely be pretty interesting, but honestly I don't see Big Mom's ship getting to wano, I'm hoping that the navy brings the SSG to wano and completely destroys the Big Mom pirates on their way there as a show of power to the reader
@@baning23 Their ship is already here. It'd be insanely stupid for Oda to put all this emphasis on fighting 2 Emperors only to exclude another Emperor's entire crew from the fight. He went out of his way to bring them to Wano. He didn't do that to have them sit around and do nothing.
Yeah. It’s all been setup and earned just as I imagined. WCI had its problems but Sanji was not one of them. The arc was necessary for this. I’m not a hardcore OP fan but as someone who loves writing and wants to one day be one Oda to me is one of the best I’ve seen in manga. This kind of character focus is only accomplished by someone who cares a lot about the how’s and whys of a character. And we are seeing it in full display. Overall, Sanji already was a my favorite of mine. This made me love him even more.

Hope this whole incident tampers some zoro vs sanji nonsense down. Its not an easy burden to ask of someone and its not an easy burden to accept. Sanji woulld only ask Zoro and Zoro would only say yes to Sanji
I personally don't see why people assume that there is bad blood between them to begin with. Sure they argue, but so do other members of the crew at times. You put enough people with enough different personalities in a room and there will be arguments. Sure these two argue more than some others, but some personalities clash more than others too.
With the raidsuit failure it seems that the theory that sanji will learn how to hide his presence fails along with it Makes sense tho, cuz if I remember correctly, on the train to enie's lobby, lucci warned the other CP9 members that sanji's fast af and that he might pull a sneak attack on them And sanji said he wouldn't do it, he would fight like a man, no sneak attacks

A lot of people pay to much atention to sanji's pervyness and declarations in thriller bark, but here we are shown that he sacrifices becoming invisible in favor of his ideals
people pay attention to the overuse of his perverted acts in fisherman island. The gag is overplayed
@@latima123ify yep, totally agree with you
@@latima123ify well oda has so much liberty with sanji
No other character could pull it off as fittingly as him
Oda's level of build-up was insane!
Agree with all of that. It would be really fucking exciting if Pudding comes to the rescue and reminds him of who he really is.

Sanji been getting shine for like 5 years tho. I think what you're saying is that Sanji is finally getting a W?
This video should be called: "A love letter to Sanji"
Seriously we should never stop trusting Oda. Even when we have some controversial scenes or something that seems odd about an acr it almost always turns out to be part of Oda's vision for his story.
@- SageAegis - And whole Akazaya might have still alive yay 🙃
That's true. I really hope Big Mom's memory loss makes more sense later on in the story, somehow.

The Yonko saga is gonna be one hell of a read when it's finished.
This
It didn't feel sudden, it was totally in line with his pervy nature
In Oda we trust. i cant count how many times have Oda made some weird decisions and created moments that are controversial, making people doubt him, thinking maybe he is rushing, maybe he's bored of OP, this and that... but we simply arent on the same plane of intellect as him. the way this man planned out his story in both the most minute and the grandest ways simultaneously is purely immaculate. this moment for Sanji this chapter, the choices that he made, cleared up every doubts that people had for him this entire Post timeskip saga, and put everything into perspective. its truly is a masterpiece, and Oda aint even done yet!
He certainly put me in my place. I shitted on Sanji so much post time skip but now I know I was in the wrong without understanding the full picture.
Yes! That's why I hate when folks describe Sanji as a toxic womanizer and pervert.
@@Cinedragon what do they mean womanizer? Mans never had girl .
@@Doflaminguard Haha, you got a point! I think womanizer can also describe someone who is into a lot of women. So there's a hint of truth on that part. But still! He's anything but toxic imo.

Chapter's not even been out a week and you put together such a comprehensive analysis. It's amazing stuff!
This was such a good video…Sanjis personality gets way more attention than any other strawhats
Thank you for putting it into words, Morj! I don't like people's implications that Sanji would be cooler if he could turn off that code and go full Germa. Sanji is far more interesting a character when he refuses to sacrifice his ideals, in the exact same way that Luffy and Zoro do
Agreed.

Not gonna lie….. the way you brought up that sponsor was really smooth.
Good callback.
Everyone thought that this arc was gonna be Zoro and Sanji turned out to be the dark horse. I am really really glad that Sanji got such a good moment, but also a little sad that Zoro didn't. And I mean character development vise not powerups or badass moments.
Great breakdown and take on Sanji.
When Sanji resolves what's going on his Wano powerup will feel totally earned unlike the raid suit.
Really good analysis, needed some Sanji love on UA-cam, this chapter was truly a focus on his character in the long term, so many thoughts on Sanji crossed my mind whilst reading it, but this video perfectly describes how Oda has been manoeuvring Sanji, and his person.

My favorite part of this whole inner dialogue was how he put Luffy's needs first. He really is fit to be fit the wings of the Pirate King
(I know other translations state one of the wings, but official did state wings in general)
Wanji and Woro ftw
Makes sense tho if we consider that he himself is a bit less ambitious than zoro for example who wants to be the WSS
Seems like the SHs that are not so ambitious simply inherit the Captain's ambitions, thereby also inheriting his will too

It's crazy that we still haven't gotten into the lunarian stuff yet. Wano might just be another Sanji arc by the end of it
That's just Queen's speculations. Idk if Oda is trying to put some ideas on our heads by saying it through some character, but we can't speak facts about the lunarian race yet

Sticking to his code = holding on to himself, his humanity and individuality. It hits harder when you remember he was almost striped from it at birth, and is still running away from that fate

Amazing video Morj, You described Sanji perfectly
Theory: Sanji will end up not finishing his transformation but still not be able to undo what has happened. That way he’ll end up with one eyebrow flipped but the other one stays the same as old. So that it finally gets symmetric. Like a normal human. No science kid.
While at that he decides to tie up his hair or leave it down as bangs on both sides of the face.
finally symmetrical eyebrows
Zoro and Sanji defeat King and Queen
Zoro's medicine wears off, and all of his previous injuries accumulate all at once (thriller bark callback)
He sees Sanji not as himself
He begrudgingly fights tooth and nail through the pain of his injuries as he prepares himself kill his friend, because fulfilling Sanji's wishes is worth Zoro risking his life for.
Sanji: "You wanna go mosshead?!"
Etc etc
We don't need to wait until this gets animated we just need to wait until the next chapter comes out and we'll have our answers.
Sanji is given and rejects his powerup but still gets to use it. I dig it.
Most important line for me is sanji asking what luffy needs what the crew needs
I really love it when you delve into the writting of Oda more than when you have to deal with dumbass fan ideas like forced parallels or power scaling

Whole Cake Island and Wano Kuni are big reflected versions of Water seven and Enies Lobby thats why WC island felt incomplete

Why is there so much comments ?

This
Thats not how acting works, an actor needs to learn and understand their character.
When it comes to elaborately explaining...you are on a level of your own
Morj I really like this sanji characher break down, wish you can all do this to all Straw hat.
This is the quality Morj content that I crave 💯💯💯
His reward will be to keep his emotions and some of the powerups his body has gained.
His reward is probably going to be the powerup he gets to beat Queen and maybe invisibility
Well, she knows Sanji's brothers, so she is better than Zoro to say something like "You will never be like them"
@@Artimao She can see through the eyebrow
Even better idea: Some people think it's Pudding that will help Sanji. She has the memory abilities. She can help him remember what really happened.
@@emperorluffy6001 that'd definitely be pretty interesting, but honestly I don't see Big Mom's ship getting to wano, I'm hoping that the navy brings the SSG to wano and completely destroys the Big Mom pirates on their way there as a show of power to the reader

This video basically summed up my own reasons for why Sanji is my favorite character 👏🏾 good shìt morj💯
The surfshark transition Was cool.
Wow, what a great video! Mr. Morj's analysis and communication skills are top notch. I'm definitely a Sanji fan now (except for those scenes where I'm not). Goda
With the raidsuit failure it seems that the theory that sanji will learn how to hide his presence fails along with it
Makes sense tho, cuz if I remember correctly, on the train to enie's lobby, lucci warned the other CP9 members that sanji's fast af and that he might pull a sneak attack on them
And sanji said he wouldn't do it, he would fight like a man, no sneak attacks
