It wasn't a trashy movie, it was a film of it's time, when big sprawling books were made into equally popular big, sprawling expensive films. There are some top performers in this movie. It was a guilty pleasure. And fun to watch. Still is, and if you loved it back then, you probably still will. It's one of those movies! It's not meant to be Medea so bring out the popcorn, and relax!!
Good film. Most of it (the tobacco at least) was filmed right by our house in Windsor. The opening scene is of AST Farm 25 in Windsor, which my father managed. The Connie and Troy things were filmed on the corner of Day Hill and Marshall Phelps Roads.
WB filmed a great film starring Claudette Colbert returning to the screen with Troy Donahue who would become a big star at Warners due to this film and several WB stars Diane McBain, Chad Everett and Connie Stevens. This is a great movie set in the Northern Connecticut tobacco fields. Delmer Daves Directed and this would be the 2nd of 4 Daves-Donahue Hits...A Summer Place, Parrish, Rome Adventure, and Susan Slade. After Donahue left WB his star faded, but for a time he was a big big star.
These movies were great for the time. I was in grade school and being from SoCal and the beach, they were pretty racey. Didn't really see them until JR HI. That was the way it was, there was still respect from the guys. The movies were starting to push morals and kids could see what was going on. What a fun time!! Where are the full movies?? The studios had their new actors just as they do now.We hear too much about their lives now, who cares. We just want good movies, so sad there aren't many!!
I thought "Parrish" was good for the performances, from Troy Donahue, Connie Stevens, and Diane McBain to Claudette Colbert (in her final film appearance) and Karl Malden. It was also good for its grand cinematography in rural Connecticut and those tobacco fields. Other than that, it had a silly plot that was sort of dated, in a way. Old money domination of the tobacco industry, a ruthless tycoon, a romantic triangle for a boy's affection, and a domineering mother. Look past this...
@@Celluloidwatcher We were there for some of the filming that was done close to our house - about a mile away. I only remember being there and the "fight scene" and the ho-de-li ho-de-li ending scene. My mom was impressed with the acting, except for T. Donahue. She got all of their autographs. One person overlooked here is the director, who was fabulous: Delmer Daves. His signature in my mother's book was calligraphy and one can see his artistry even there.
@@allenf.5907 Oh, how fortunate you are. Something to tell friends, neighbors, and, of course, future generations of one's family. I can imagine how great an experience that was, to see all those stars and the production crew, and your mom getting the autographs. It reminds me of a story of how the people of a small Indiana town saw the shooting of the 1958 film, Some Came Running, and witnessed Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Shirley MacLaine in person. Back in the days when on-location filming of movies was not as abundant as it is now, due to production costs on Hollywood studio sets being so expensive.
@@Celluloidwatcher There were so many tobacco fields in CT to choose from back then (not now - they're mostly gone) but they chose wonderful locations to film this movie. Yes, it is quite the cast!
This is without doubt one of the worst movies thru which I have ever suffered - chock full of early 60's liberal class warfare and the "if it feels good do it" sexuality . Considering that Mr. Donahue's interests lay elsewhere - his portrayal of a down on the farm version of Beau Brummel is typical of Hollywood bullshit. Claudette Colbert must have really been hard up to appear in this pot boiler.

I love Connie Stevens! I love ALL her movies and I love her skincare line! I think she's fantastic and I wish I could watch her on TV again
I saw this on release and loved it.

OH MY THIS IS GREAT! Seeing scenery from Mystic Seaport and Groton Submarine Base!
Una gran extraordinaria historia de mi corta juventud.

and it's the old Warner Brothers movie charm that I 've always loved.
Sharon Hugueny. Such beauty and talent, shame what happened to her.
She passed away in 1996 from cancer. She was 52.
Yes I know. I made a video tribute to her.
This was the height of Hollywoods creativity, that is lost today.
Troy Donahue was the Robert Pattinson of his day.
but better

Thank you for the information, take care
I just saw Parrish on TCM....all of TD's movies were good back then.
Thoroughly liked this movie. I liked the music too. In fact, I wish someone would upload the whole movie. Don't know why the poster dished it.
GREAT MOVIE !!

Why can't Susan Slade, Parrish, A Summer Place be seen on youtube??? These movies are from 50 yrs ago????
Was a great movie, just the opposite of trashy.
Haha I was named after this damned movie
I remember when they busted a lot of people and took a lot of gambling machines back in the 70's
My name is Parrish, and it was kind of weird for me to hear people say it like 50 times during the movie.
To the poster: It's neither bad nor trashy. If that's what you think, WHY did you bother posting it?
Neither Bad Nor Trashy. Why would you even caption that????
Why don't you just download them?
Trashy or not, I kinda wanna watch this.
I love Connie Stevens (more than I love myself)
Poor Troy was an alcoholic and killed himself with the disease. He had everything at one time and destroyed it all.
Of course, someone in the movie had a 'little role' but went on to something more significant 10 years later.
Who he?

That was the book that spawned the film.
Yes, of course.

Carrol Oconner ?
My name is Parrish. Lol
Before there was Keanu Reeves, there was Troy Donahue! I liked the movie, but good God, this guy was a bad actor.
He really was.

The ONLY movie worse than "Susan Slade."
What a crap ending to a movie.
Carrol Oconner ?
Yep - he was in it.
