One Vision (8/10) - Buenos dias one more time my lovely people! To finish off their brief stint in Spain, Queen plays their one and only concert in Marbella, a city in the south of the country, located close to the border of Gibraltar. Originally intended to end off the tour, will the band give their Spanish fans a blast or will we hear another mid Magic show? If Brian’s FANTASTIC licks at the start of ‘One Vision’ are anything to go by, I think we can expect great things! Freddie sounds great and sings a superb first verse, nailing all A4s with great power and no signs of fear or caution to be heard. The second verse is equally powerful with great A4s all around, including a nailed “ALL we NEED is”. Both choruses are tight with strong vocals by Freddie and Roger alike. The bridge sees Freddie dodging “dream of sweet illusion” with a GORGEOUS phrasing, so I can’t even be mad! He then NAILS “visions of OOOONE sweet union” but dodges the final A4. Solid! The final verse is shaky as Freddie again wants to go for most A4s but cracks quite badly, resulting in an understandably conservative delivery of the remaining lines. The jam section sounds great with Brian going OFF like crazy while Freddie adds fun adlibs to entertain the audience. The finale sees Freddie giving out early on and cracking slightly on many of the higher notes. It seems like the strong start to the song was just a phase unfortunately… Brian plays the SPICIEST transition on the entire tour! Freddie nails the usual adlibs roughly.
Tie Your Mother Down (7.5/10) - Freddie adlibs a brief “Hey!” before nailing a strong A4 sustain. The first verse sees him going for three A4s early on, hitting one of them quite flat. “NO WAY” is nailed however. The first chorus sounds pretty solid with tight harmonies and Freddie unsurprisingly not going for the A4 in the end. The second verse gets the usual 1986 treatment, being sung with no studio A4s but having a few embellishments throughout the verse; Brian adds a couple of great licks in between. The second chorus has no A4 attempt either. The guitar solo sounds absolutely lovely as Brian really changes things up for the better tonight, showing off his creative side with lots of fun. Freddie nails the start of the bridge strongly; the final chorus sees the singer nail “daddy out the DOOOOORS” strongly and dodging the final A4 as well. The outro is the usual combination of great guitar work by Brian paired with energetic vocals by everyone and a great fanfare. Freddie shouts a high note as Brian leads the band into the fanfare.
In the Lap of the Gods… Revisited (8/10) - “Hello everybody! Is everybody okay? Hey, hey, hey”. Hm, Freddie again keeps his hello quite brief, not adding anything in Spanish which might be telling something about his demeanour tonight. After nailing both falsettos with ease, Freddie belts out the most POWERFUL “so FUNNY!” and “my MONEY!” of the tour, giving not a single care about cleanliness. The following line is phrased weirdly though, almost sounding like Freddie thought about hitting the B4 but deciding against it in the end. The chorus section is once again great with Freddie sounding really confident and even embellishing a few lines. Brian hits a bum note in the middle but makes up for that with some great licks immediately afterwards.
Seven Seas of Rhye (6/10) - Seven Reasons Why… this song deserves more attention by Freddie: Uh, you know. It’s good, great, fun, fantastic, strong and fantastic again. Freddie struggles during the bridge and hits a flat “be-LONG to you”.
Liar / Tear It Up (8/10) - Freddie adds a fun sustain during the heavy sounding ‘Liar’ intro. The usual “Yeah!” at the start of ‘Tear It Up’ sounds rough as hell but Freddie then bursts out a strong first chorus, dodging “as you go a-LONG” but keeping up much better than I feared. The verse gets the, by now, usual treatment of monotonous phrasings to allow Freddie to catch his breath for the next chorus. Despite this, he struggles a lot more here but still goes for all A4s. Not bad. The finale is solid with Freddie giving it his all.
A Kind of Magic (8/10) - The audience gets quite excited upon hearing Freddie’s vocal intro to the song, even starting to clap along to the non existent beat! Thankfully they stop as soon as Freddie goes into the first verse and wait for the beat to actually appear and now it sounds great! Fred sings the song well, nailing a powerful “the BELL” A4 sustain. A solid first chorus follows. The second verse is a rollercoaster ride of emotions, starting with a gorgeous lick by Brian, continuing with a rough “the BELL that rings” and finishing with a superb embellishment on “is CHAAAAAA-llenging”. After a great brief solo by Brian, Freddie sings a decent but slightly rough second chorus which sees Roger adding quite a lot of great drum fills. The breakdown section is solid but kinda underwhelming as no one adds anything. Freddie hits the bridge A4s strongly and NOW we’re going somewhere! Brian changes his mind about ignoring this song out of nowhere and goes from 0 to hero in a heartbeat, playing one of the best solos on the tour that goes on for a WHILE! Freddie adds a few strong adlibs to further cement this to be one of the greatest solo sections for this song. The outro sees Freddie opting for a few surprising notes but goes about as expected afterwards.
Ay-Oh - Freddie almost turns into a Dutch citizen for this Ay-Oh, singing really fun chants for the people of Marbella to repeat back to him. They’re very clearly enjoying this bit of fun, giving their sing backs their absolute all and Freddie treats them with more challenging lines soon afterwards, also going into a few surprisingly stable sustains. After a long but very low sustain, Freddie… again says nothing to the crowd.
Under Pressure (7/10) - Brian adds a slide lick during the intro although I’m not sure if this was intentional or not. Did sound kinda cool though, I can’t lie! Freddie sings a solid first verse, hitting both A4s well. The first chorus is good with a strong “gets me HIGH-er”. The second verse features the standard phrasings for the tour and none of the higher scat bits attempted. The second chorus ends with the usual F#4 to G4 scoop up. The bridge features a unique phrasing as Freddie initially goes for a G4, scoops up to an A4 and then goes down again, first back to the G4 and then the F#4. The outro is solid.
Another One Bites the Dust (9/10) - “Okay, now we’re gonna get into the boogie, hey! This is called ‘Another One Bites the Dust’”. The audience is singing along to the bass line during the intro! That’s what I wanna hear! The first verse is great with Freddie being drowned out by the audience but sounding aggressive. The first chorus is great with the audience taking over perfectly; Freddie hits “gonna GET YOU TOO” but dodges the B4. The second verse sees Fred nailing both A4s but giving out slightly right after the second one. The following chorus again sees the crowd overpowering Freddie who then treats with a SUPERB B4 at the end of the chorus! The jam starts off with AWESOME guitar work by Brian and some unique adlibs by Freddie on top of that. They both keep going off afterwards, Brian with more funky licks and Fred with the usual call and response improv, singing the most CREATIVE improv of the tour?! THIS IS A SUPERB JAM! The band go off afterwards and then Brian and Freddie do a joint improv for a while WHAT THE HELL! The bridge is rough. A brief cut occurs but we get to hear Freddie barking out the second A4 of the final verse. The final chorus sounds great audience wise with Freddie finishing the song decently.
Who Wants to Live Forever (5/10) - “Okay, like… This, I must tell you it’s really nice to see so many people here tonight. Thank you everybody for coming and uhm… This next song is called ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’”. Freddie probably skipped the speech again as he believed not many people would understand him - or were they still mad at each other? Definitely didn’t sound like it thus far! Freddie then sings the usual gorgeous pair of verses but this is one of these shows where the audience does NOT shut up during a ballad like this so the feelings are completely off unfortunately. Unfortunately, Freddie then gets WAY too daring for his own good, having multiple cracks along with general instability throughout the two big sustains before the guitar solo, which turns out to be solid albeit a bit simplified. The final verse sees Freddie again break on both high notes. Oh man. The big chorus section is mostly decent with Freddie sounding rough on the two A4s and Brian hitting a bum note at one point, thankfully it’s not a big mess up. Well, that is until the very last chord which Brian AGAIN misses and this time it sticks out like a sore thumb.
I Want to Break Free (6/10) - Brian, what are you DOING? He once again starts off the guitar intro on a wrong note. Freddie and the audience then go through a strong first verse although Freddie’s voice weakens noticeably throughout. As a result, Freddie sounds rough on the second verse, barking out notes with many coming out weak and cracked. The bridge is equally rough with Freddie sounding unstable and barky on all higher notes. At least Brian finally manages to go through a solo without hitting a major bum note although his solo here sounds anything but perfect. He does try to make up for that with a few licks during the final verse but here Freddie dodges all high notes and still sounds rough on most lines.

Impromptu (9/10) - The crowd starts chanting but Freddie’s crazy vocal runs make them stop chanting and start talking again… This is unfortunate as Freddie actually sounds quite interested in improvising again, doing a couple of really unique lines and runs on his own for about a minute before Spike and Roger join in. The full band section sounds actually superb once again with everyone doing something fun tonight. As they go into the fast section, Roger goes off COMPLETELY, playing an enormous and absolutely RIDICULOUS drum solo, holy SMOKEY COWDY DOODLY! Freddie does a few funny adlibs, saying “my home, my home, my home” or something like that.
Guitar Solo / Chinese Torture (8/10) - YO HOLD ON?! As Brian goes into his solo, Spike has not left yet and the pair of them does a brief part where Spike repeats Brian’s chords (or the other way around) and I LOVE that! Almost a little callback to ‘The Works’ tour if you will. Brian then is on his own though and starts off with a few fun little riffs before sustaining a chord to change the mood. Instead of actually doing something different afterwards though, he goes into a riffing section but honestly, he does play a new riff that I haven’t heard before so I’m not mad and thankfully, Brian does switch stuff around frequently enough to not let any of the riffs overstay its welcome, something that was missing from the previous few solos. Just as the riffing gets stale, the tape features a hard cut - going into a COMPLETELY different section of the solo and it actually sounds like the start to a quiet section! Brian actually goes into a very smooth bit, playing some lovely melodies and adding a riff alongside for a while which actually sounded awesome! But I’m glad he keeps playing the quiet section for a bit more even if it’s just 20 seconds before going back to straight riffing. In between the usual pre-jam riffs, Brian puts in quite interesting riffs with several different techniques and goes into a big distorted pile of chords which slowly, almost delicately leads into tonight’s snippet of ‘Chinese Torture’ as Brian builds into it, using several different chords and riffs along the way and different stages of the Harmoniser before going all out with it. By far the best solo with it thus far!
Now I’m Here / Johnny B. Goode (8/10) - Oh damn, Brian FINALLY extends the intro to ‘Now I’m Here’ again, having lots of fun with it. During Freddie’s intro vocals he even stops playing at one point. Love little bits like that! Freddie cracks on “just a NEW man” and dodges the first A4 as a result. Disappointing but honestly not surprising! He then even sounds very rough on the first verse, almost breaking at one point and having to cut all notes short to the minimum. He again barks out an unstable “LOOOOVE you so” and dodges the second A4 as well. The second verse is pretty solid and features some great drumming by Roger. The jam sounds great with Brian going off really nicely and Roger powering through the drums with great precision and spirits. Freddie adds a couple of cracked “Go, Johnny, go, go!” adlibs. Unfortunately, this is where the jam already ends, a bit too soon in my opinion. The bridge, however, sounds TERRIFIC with both Brian and Freddie doing some absolutely GORGEOUS improvising along each other. The song ends with a terrific drum solo, at the end of which Freddie shouts “Here we go!”.
Love of My Life (6/10) - Brian: “Hola! Ustedes estás bien? Good, very glad to hear it. Para vosotros…” and this is where my Spanish ends. “Thank you for a great welcome! We love ya and we’ll prove it with this one”, Brian continues, starting off ‘Love of My Life’ halfway through. The audience participation in this one is awful at the start, leading Freddie to pick it up again but thankfully, when he tries again during the chorus, most audience members stop CHATTING FOR ONCE and join in. Despite this, the atmosphere just isn’t right and that along with Freddie’s 1986 soft tone not sounding very soft at all makes me not really enjoy this one at all today. The bridge again features the studio phrasing on “all by the way”. During Brian’s guitar solo, someone even starts doing some impromptu Opera singing and it all adds to the feeling that this audience isn’t really interested in what’s going on up stage at all. The final verse is solid from Freddie’s side of things. Yeah, this audience sucks at singing along…
Is This the World We Created…? (7/10) - Let’s hope the second serious song of the acoustic set bodes better but I have my doubts with this stupid crowd. Opera guy from earlier shouts random stuff again and Brian hits a bum note during the intro. Sigh… The first verse is pretty solid to be fair but upon hearing slow music, the audience starts chatting again, almost doing a Saarbrücken 1979 thing and drowning out the music with their excessive talking. The first chorus is actually pretty great. After a gorgeous second verse, Freddie also sings a decent chorus even if most audience members seem to be ignoring him anyway.
Oldies Medley (8/10) - Freddie urges everybody to clap along and thankfully, that is a task suitable for this crowd. As a result, the first oldie sounds fun with the band having fun and still providing tight harmonies. Freddie introduces the next song in his usual way but he goes almost silent for some reason. Thankfully, this isn’t the case for the band on ‘Hello Mary Lou’ at all, which makes for a fun listen of the little ditty as well. As usual, the band has a short break before ‘Tutti Frutti’, so Freddie asks “Is everybody ready for this?” and upon receiving the confirmation that everybody is ready for this, they start off the song. The band section is pretty fun with Brian adding some great riffs and Spike also remembering how to do the bluesy juicy rock and roll. The audience goes crazy both after the initial jam and during the surprise reprise, showing they just don’t like ballads I guess lol.
Bohemian Rhapsody (7/10) - Thankfully, despite having a BALLAD section, the song is big enough to make the crowd shut up / actually sing along. Freddie hits a TERRIBLE “life had JUST begun” but still goes for a solid Bb4 on “now I’ve GONE”. “Mama Ooh” is hit briefly with the remaining Ab4s coming out well and the crowd NAILING “carry OOON” like Freddie did a few days prior. The second verse has Freddie hitting a solid “GOT to gooo” and doing a straight G4 phrasing afterwards. “Mama Ooh” sounds much better as a result but Freddie still strains his way through the rest of the verse. The rock section sounds great with Freddie nailing all Ab4s strongly. The outro isn’t the tightest but has the right spirit so I’ll take it I guess. The audience even sings “Nothing really matters” before Freddie who then sings the line with a few gorgeous embellishments. See, this is how it goes, dear crowd!
Hammer to Fall (7/10) - “And now it’s time for the ‘Hammer to Fall’”. Alright! The first verse is rough as Freddie cracks on both A4s. He still goes for the harmony A4s during the first chorus (ALL OF THEM?!) and sounds rough as a result. The second verse features semi-conservative phrasings and COMPLETELY aired out A4s afterwards. Freddie still keeps going for high notes during the following chorus. This man… The bridge has the worst “or FAMOUS” ever and still has Freddie going for “RAIN is pouring”. FREDDIE, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! It’s a miracle he didn’t have any cracks during the bridge but I’m really scared for the rest of the song… Brian plays one of the messiest first solos on the tour but at least it’s there in its full glory I suppose. Meh. At least the end sounds really good. The final verse sees Freddie hitting more ROUGH A4s and continuing to do so through the chorus as well. He then does a unique phrasing on “going to FAAAAALL” and nails an A4 sustain that is rougher than anything I’ve heard before, how did he not crack that one?! Anyway, the second solo is GREAT as Brian goes off really well and puts out some really good riffs and licks. Roger adds some drum fills as well as he’s having a superb night at the office! Freddie adds a few fun (and even gutsy) adlibs before the finale. There, he hits another really rough A4 without cracking.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love (8.5/10) - “Okay, this is a crazy song for crazy people. It goes like this”. Still keeping the speeches and introductions very brief! The first couple of verses sound pretty good with the band playing tightly and providing tight backing vocals for Freddie. The first bridge lacks ANY involvement by Brian (but features another great drum fill by Roger) apart from one lick at the end as he must have had an issue with his guitar. This also leads to a very conservative solo unfortunately. Freddie does a few strange phrasings towards the end of the chorus before letting the band take over. OH DAMN, Brian starts off the riffing in a completely unique way and keeps coming up with new chords and licks. This is absolutely sublime! YEAH, THE BUILD UP IS CRAZY ON THIS ONE! GO OFF! KEEP IT GOING! The band is doing a SUPERB job here! Freddie comes in WAY too soon, WHY WHY WHY! But even here Spike keeps going off until the very end.

Radio Ga Ga (6/10) - Most of the first encore break is cut on the recording. Spike extends the juggling intro quite a bit tonight. Freddie sounds even rougher than before, struggling his way through the first verse and letting Roger do most of the hard work during the first pre-chorus. The first chorus is solid and actually features some nice audience participation. Freddie again keeps airing and giving out during the second verse as his voice is done for. The second pre-chorus sees Freddie going for a couple of A4s and G4s. The second chorus is pretty good with the audience’s clapping even overpowering the drums at the start. The breakdown is GREAT with Spike and Roger spicing up things on their end respectively. Awesome! Brian’s guitar solo is tight. The final pre-chorus sees Freddie bravely trying his best but still having to dodge several high notes. At least he’s doing it now unlike during previous songs (or shows). The final chorus is decent enough with Freddie somehow getting both sustains without airing out again.
We Will Rock You (7.5/10) - The second encore break is left intact and again shows the crowd switching between sounding enthusiastic and chatting a lot. The band plays another really awesome intro for their big clappy song with Brian doing lots of great riffing and Roger adding some drum fills during the second half. Gosh, these August intros are great! Freddie hits G4s during all three verses but sings the final verse’s lyrics during the second verse, thus repeating this verse. As he had done in Japan in 1982, he adds an embellished “mud on your FACE” during the final verse. Brian’s sustained chord before the solo sounds heavy and leads into a fine solo, lacking any vital improv though.
Friends Will Be Friends (7/10) - The intro sounds great, again featuring some really great drumming by Roger! Freddie sings a solid first verse, hits “IT’S SO EASY now” and dodges “you can TRUST” as his voice had almost given out anyway. The first chorus is decent with Freddie only coming in on “FRIENDS”, nailing that and “RIGHT till the end” strongly. Following another solid verse, Freddie misses “it’s so easy now” and dodges “you can TRUST” again. The second chorus follows the same formula as the first, again successfully.
We Are the Champions (6/10) - The first verse is pretty nice although the audience has started chatting again??? The first pre-chorus sees Freddie DYING on the attempted Bb4 drop phrasing. The crowd starts singing along with the chorus where Freddie hits a weak A4, dropping the whole to a G4 immediately. The rest of the chorus is solid enough. The second verse has an embellished “NOOO pleasure cruise” and a completely dodged pre-chorus after the A4. The second chorus sees Brian adding a lovely lick while Freddie sustains a solid double G4. He dodges “NO time” after the crowd nails that Bb4 phrasing. The final chorus features the same stuff as the second one without the lick.
God Save the Queen - “Thank you. Thank you very much! You’ve been a beautiful audience, thank you! Goodnight and goodbye!” Again, no Spanish by our dear Freddie Mercury for Queen's last ever show in a Spanish speaking country :(

    Spike Review:
    1. One Vision | starting off with the Vocoder at 3:07 which is nice, the “One’s” at 3:55 are clear as Usual
    2. Seven Seas of Rhye | Vocoder at 12:44>13:00 is Good
    3. A Kind of Magic | 16:24, 16:38 is actually clear, 16:53, 17:14, 17:20, Vocoder from 17:33>18:00, 18:06, 18:21, Vocoder at 18:38 is Ok I guess, 18:43 is actually Unique Vocoder as Spike actually sings it as “Maaagiiiicccc” similar to Modern Gigs, 19:03 is decent, 19:09 is quieter than 18:43, and for the Climax at 19:32 is decent enough I guess,
    4. Under Pressure | Vocoder at 25:14 is Very Weak (thank god this wasn’t the Final Version)
    5. Now I’m Here | Synths at 53:34 are very quiet, 54:23 is Better, 56:39, and now for the End from 57:45 which is much louder than the last 2 times,
    6. Bohemian Rhapsody | Vocoder at 1:17:22 is quiet but still ok, the following Strings from 1:17:27>1:17:40 are actually Very Nice, 1:17:30/1:17:34 are honestly just beautiful along with Brian’s guitar as 1:17:31 , this version reminds Me of Budapest’s Soundboard
    7. Hammer to Fall | Synths at 1:19:41 are a bit Quiet but still Nice
    8. Radio Ga Ga | Vocoder at 1:30:20 is almost Soundboard clear, 1:30:35 is Nice as well, 1:31:09 is a bit Weak, Vocoder at 1:32:02 again is Nice, I’d almost say Louder than the first Verse, 1:32:36 is Weak but louder then 1st Pre Chorus, also John plays the Bass at 1:32:38 making it Feel like it’s going into the 1st chorus, Vocoder at 1:33:49 is again Nice, a tad bit weaker I feel tho, 1:34:23 is the clearest, Vocoder Harmonies on the Final Chorus definitely cut thru at Times, the Finale Vocoder at 1:34:40>1:34:56 is Very Weak, anybody there wouldn’t have even Noticed it
    9. Friends Will Be Friends | First Chorus is Low but Audible in the Mix if you listen, 1:41:27 is most audible, 2nd Chorus is the same but 1:42:23 is Better audibly than first chorus,
    10. We Are the Champions | 1:43:11 is Audible but Weak-ish compared to Other Gigs, 1:44:25 is Better, anyways let’s see if the Vocoder Harmonies are Audible at the End…… 1:45:15>1:45:30 actually turned out to be Decently Audible to anyone who knows what to listen Out for
