    Also, when glue is still wet you can take plastic ruler rub it on your hair or wool sweater and then "hover" it few millimeters over grass with it. This will make grass stand a little more.

    I really like short vids on the basics - it's generally stuff that you know how to do, but you can often pick up lil tips and tricks that are very easy to implement but make a real difference in how your minis look!
    Like in this case going over your static grass with a brush to make it stand up more - brilliant!

    So THIS is what I remember seeing seeing so many years ago when I first looked into 40k. For some reason, despite all the videos I have watched over the past several months, static grass never came up even in passing. Thank you!

    getting the grass to stand up straighter is easier if you don't glue the miniature to the base. If you glue static grass on the base, you can then use the simple balloon trick to generate static charge and hover it over the static grass (called so for a reason) to make it stand on end before the glue dries

    I was about to get an applicator but then I realized I don't really need my grass to stand up straight for minis I use for casual play or kitchen table games. I'd rather get more paints and such! Thanks for the video! It actually looks pretty alright without an applicator

  • @DukensteinA1

    I always use wood glue instead of white. I feel it's stronger and longer lasting.

  • @BrickworksDK
    @BrickworksDK 7 років тому +4

    Once the grass has been glued down, I usually go over it again with a thin mixture of watered down white glue - something like ten parts water to one part glue depending on how thin you want it.
    Use a soft brush to gently put it on the base, let it run down the grass to the base itself, let it dry overnight, and the grass is firmly attached.
    Then you can use a brush to wipe of the excess grass before hitting the model with a final layer of varnish.
    Of course, you can always build an applicator and make your own tufts. Much easier in the long run... :-)

    Thanks, this is really helpful! Most videos say, “Apply some grass” but they don’t really show how. Some people say super glue. Why do you do Elmer’s vs. Superglue?

    What does a static grass applicator do and is it necessary

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic 6 років тому +1

      It makes the grass stand up on end. It's not necessary and is mostly for very large applications of grass, like a table.

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic 7 років тому +1

      It would depend on what it's glued to and what type of glue was used. Best guess without knowing I'd say scrap it off with a dull knife, but of course that would likely take off the ground texture, if any.

    • @M0U53B41T
      @M0U53B41T 7 років тому +1

      can try soaking in simple green or even water (if it's PVA, you'll activate the glue again, and it'll basically just slough off). Otherwise yup as Dr. Faust' mentions: scrape it off, I use a spackle spreader type tool, but you can just use a boxcutter (carefully!) If you want to remove the mini, you may be able to work a hobby saw under the feet, carefully removing it from the base. You have to watch you don't cut into the mini though. Anyway, just be patient! It can be done :) I've salvaged a lot from Ebay this way

    Why not clean off the excess grass over the static grass container?

    • @ThePaintingClinic
      @ThePaintingClinic 7 років тому +3

      Could, but the more you put back in the greater the chance of contaminating the container with other debris. Loose gravel, dust, paint bits, etc. I prefer to play it safe.

  • @krumpits
    @krumpits 6 років тому

    I typically prefer to use the grass powder type stuff and use that for my initial base, and then use the little grass tuffs where needed for longer grass/weeds type look. Static grass does look a big nicer though.

    • @TotemoGaijin
      @TotemoGaijin 4 роки тому +1

      A lot depends on scale too. Something like this, I think the static grass does look a bit nicer, but if the scale were something crazy like 1/144, the powder/flock seems much more in scale for grass.
