Question: are the colonies vulnerable? My recollection from playing the TTRPG many years ago is that colonies were very vulnerable and would frequently get destroyed by xenos, rebellion, and stuff like that. Which feels very realistic: it's easy to see how you would get 4 Roanokes for every Jamestown in a setting like this.
I haven't see any outpost actually be attacked in any way that wasn't directly related to the main story, they all have a 'security' rating but that stuff seems to just affect secondary things like how much profit factor is being sent your way.
To be honest i'm happy that the system seems less complicate and demanding than the pathfinder ones. I want something fun that i like to play a bit between missions, not something that needs hours of investment/micromanagement and bland fights/events to see 100% of the game. i liked the crusade one the first time in wrath of the righteous, but every other game it was just a drag.
That's a cool system. I'm always looking for ways to reward players with stuff other than gold. At some point you have more you could ever spend and still not get the cool thing you wanted.
I hope they've seriously iproved this cargo system. Don't get me wrong, the idea of this is great and I've enjoyed it aswell. BUT: Imperial Navy vendor reputation grind was rough, due to the fact that you could loose a lot of cargo % if you just dump ship salvage into cargo, you'll get 120% cargo units. I had to manually combine all the parts to get more cargo units closer to 100% And as far as I recall it there wasn't any option to transform back the already made cargo packs. But now, based on your video you can remove parts/components from the existing tradeable cargo packs. That is HUGE, I'm really happy to see this changed. I just hope this way we could max out the navy vendor until the end of ACT III. (I've almost made it during the beta, almost did every battle, one was bugged out and 0 enemies spawned, becouse of this there weren't enough salvage to reach max rep)
I vaguely recall from the beta, the game was monitoring how many people were living on the void ship. And like you can send a detachment to help securing a planet. But overall it did not feel like a resource to manage. Has that changed?
Yeah the system is pretty cumbersome imo, it took me a long while to understand the buying/selling and cargo stuff when I played the demo a few months back
I don’t get why CRPGs have to have these systems all the time. At best they are, as you phrased it w crusade mode, not bothering me. Poe1s keep buildings, poe2s pirate ship, kingmakers kingdom management, wotrs crusade, dos 1/2 super bloated crafting system. I wish they could stay a bit more on target in these games
I think these systems are necessary to elevate those games from mere stories to play through to actual roleplaying worlds to "live" in. You actually "own" a part of that world, you are not just a guy who exists in it.
@@CommanderRionThat is potentially true for Owlcats games but there has to be a better more lightweight way. I seriously doubt that ship battles and trade empire management will be the selling point for this game :D
Question I CANNOT GET AN ANSWER TO, hopefully this 7 month old comment section helps somehow: How do restocks work? I bought out every sellers inventory like 8 times, no issues, quick restocks. Now, it's been FOREVER since anything replenished. So far I've read that they might refresh without any added information, been gaslit that they can't refresh and never did, and if anyone actually knows how this works that would be great
Should you scoop up everything available to you with each trader once unlocked by rep; re: clean out their inventory? Is there any down side to taking everything your reputation allows to?
Its unlikely youll be able to max them all out, but otherwise yeah grab everything that isnt nailed down and turn it back into cargo if you arent going to use it
Still going to feel a bit odd that we own multiple planets, but end up finding that vendor in mid game who sells some overpriced high tier piece of gear that we somehow can't afford with what we have in our pockets. Anyway, will be interesting to play around with this for at least one playthrough.
From my own experience with the early versions, the real bottleneck is going to be reputation- there's more than enough PF in the game to afford some of the higher-end equipment in monetary terms, and basic equipment is so plentiful you'll never have a shortage of it unless you're actively trying to hurt yourself.
@@shawngillogly6873 is right. Rouge Traders are rich enough that they don't count if they have enough gold to pay for a thing, but if their enterprise is robust and profitable enough that they can get the thing without seriously impacting overall flow of cash.

Interesting. Is this kind of a radiant/endless system? or more empire-building? I am interested in the sandbox elements of this game and its potential for open ended gameplay.
Can you cascade the rep/trade system? Like, once you hit a new rep level, shouldn't you just acquire everything and then trade away the things from it you don't want? Also, do the rep traders restock? If so, is that based on the passage of time or quest progress?
From what I recall, yes, you can cascade the rep system (and I think this is intended). I don't recall whether or not they restock, however. Then again, I found so much good loot, I didn't really need to buy much from them.
@@MortismalGaming Thanks. What about offensive consumables, like grenades? And what determines restock time? Time passing? Quest progressing, like kingdom turns in kingmaker?
So I don't really know what I wanna hear, this game looks dope surface level, cus ive barely seen anything of it, but I guess what I'd like to know is, as someone who plays alot of these types of games, what would this game need to change to become your favorite game of all time?, if it's not already, in this genre specifically.
Well they would need to be a bit more faithful to the source material. They specifically set it in the Koronus Expanse, but failed to include any of the unique minor xeno races. Also the lack of military and government management bothers me. Rogue Trader would have been better off as a CK2 clone than a PF Kingmaker clone.
I've played the beta, and I left with the feeling, that resources are supposed to accumulate over time, but didn't, cause, well, beta. But I'm not so sure still. Any thoughts, fellas?
I honestly didn't get that vibe; it seems like the resources don't just reflect single one-off costs, but ongoing ones- e.g. trading 10 People Resources ™ to 'personnel specialists' reflects a steady trade in people, which is why the Profit Factor you gain is permanent. I'm guessing we'll be making some hard choices as to what we spend our resources for.
Then, is direct currency needed to buy gear for yourself and your companions? Or does that simply become available to trade by building your profit factor to minimum thresholds?
I know little to nothing about Warhammer 40k, but I'm a RPG vet. The little I do know is that all the factions are essentially 'evil' or 'evil-adjacent'.
