- With the roof now water tight, we can get back inside and get ready for plaster boarding in preparation for the plasterer.
50mm PIR in the walls
100mm PIR in the roof
18mm OSB patrice in the walls
Vapour barrier
12.5mm plaster boards
The fact that you did the ceiling vapour barrier in under 4 minutes is crazy. I'll be doing this tomorrow and something tells me it's going to take longer than that haha. Thanks for all these videos Liam.
@@grim-upnorth I’ve tripped, ripped and fu**ed it off many times before mate
@@thegardenroomguru Haha, I bet you have. I've been doing similar on my build, its my first (and hopefully last) so I think I'm allowed to 🙂
The skill and experience shown more than out weighs the terminology, I don't care you may use the wrong words now and again. The point is you know there is a difference between a PH and a PZ and which to use for a particular screw type. Love to see the respect you appear to show your employees - please always goes a long way - and the way you and Jenny banter back and forth, you look like a good team.
If I was about to leave school and was interested in learning your trade I would be coming straight to you!!! You're work ethic and knowledge is exceptional. What I really admire is the way you talk to your staff.. you give instructions clearly and you always seem to say 'please'. 'Please Adam could you do this' and 'please Jen could you do that'. Although clearly you take no sh@t. Absolutely inspirational gaffer or really really good editing 😉🤣. You and your work mates are inspirational mate.
I couldn’t agree more 👍👍👍
spot on
Deffo 👍🏻
This has been super helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share details about your method. Really well explained
You're right about building them being addictive, I did mine last year and would love to do another. You learn so much by the time you've finished.
Wish id seen your method of putting the vapor barrier up before doing it myself alone haha
Great video
Pleasure to watch a skilled tradesman share practiical knowledge in an efficient way
Top quality videos Liam and A- team." What I'm gonna do now" is what needs to be put on ya merch , lol . I'm a mug that would buy a mug maybe even a t-shirt
Need more of Adam on camera he loves it 🤣👍🍻
Did I have daja vue moment watching this? the cut vs machine factory edge was a good point to remember, good advice.
Well the video plays the plaster cutting twice so Yea deja vu
Thanks Adam for the PH2 and PZ2 tutorial
Adam you star...love your clear explainations of what, where and why we do things.Brilliant mate!! well done to the A team
The predictive text is hilarious.
I'm crying. 🤣
Love yer werk!
Found the channel last night and been binge-watching since lol. Your garden rooms are a work of art and amazing videos keep it up!!
You look like deedpool guy you are very good prefessional
Love the comments about the vapour barrier and that you addressed basically everything that people might ask. Low occupancy is clearly the key here but I wonder if all of your customers understand that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting at all that you are doing anything wrong. From what I can tell, your garden rooms are top notch. But not sure people think of those buildings as limited occupancy/use spaces.
Jen is very talented at filming!
nice one for showing the pencil mate! just ordered one :)
Nice job lads 👍💪👌
Nice positive videos bud, really given me the confidence to crack on.
Good timing running out of things to watch and you popped up 👍👍
Videos are getting better & better. Well done 👏🏻
All these good LED track systems out there and people still drilling out downlights in a cold roof garden room ceiling🙈. Ditch the downlights people they are a thing of the past. Keep your ceilings hole free.
Amazing video as always. Great work guys.
thanks i will use some of your knowledge
Liam!! I’m a landscaper, have you ever tried using a stihl bt360 auger to dig your holes? Would make life a lot easier, can hire on from most hire merchants for about 50 quid! Well worth it as you could prob dig all your holes in about an hour! With very little effort! Just a thought! Big fan of the channel!
Hi james, we used one twice, both times it was redundant after roots or rocks, if one comes along at the right price I’ll get one, but at around £1500 new it’s a bit of a luxury
Every day's a School Day, To Right, That's why I ❤️ Construction
We don't go back to fix cracks, because we do it right 1st Time 👏👏💪👍
I thought I was going crazy...Yup, you did kick the plasterboard twice 😁
Make your self a temporary dead man ( T prop ), out of site waste timber stock, take's the pressure off, Once board is in place, 1-2 screwe's either end, it frees up a 1st person to cut measure next board, while the 2nd Person finish off screwe's, ❤️ the Channel Content 💪
Great explanation again Liam..
Hey Liam. Thanks so much for these and Sharing your knowledge and experience. Not bad for a cowboy 🤠
Would be good to hear about the earth bonding and running electric from the house to the garden room. Probably the harder bit than the ring main cabling in the room.
What bonding?
Great video guys, thank u 👍
Interesting that British gypsum states that boards are not to be installed vertically but horizontal. They also require stud adhesive to the boards as well. How you do that with a vapour barrier beats me!
covering there back, if your stud work is good, plenty of fixings, it'll be fine
@@thegardenroomguru I don’t think it relates to the integrity of compliant stud work etc, it’s more to do with how glancing light and sun light strikes the boards . It reduces the amount of joins and these joins are halfway up the wall in a less reactive light reflation . Once the lights go on you can’t pick any joins etc.
29 minutes in when he's drilling holes in the plasterboard, there's a thing called a DADE (dust and debris eliminator) that i found is most excellent at stopping al that mess from flying everywhere
made of silicon and worth the £15 investment
other than that, always finding new things even though the videos cover the same ground there's always a different angle, the pencil is great as i was wondering about that
How are you going to deal with condensation build up in this well insulated room? are air vents in the window frames sufficient enough? Thanks
Thanks for a very interesting & detailed video👍, I need to insulate a large wooden garage with a pitched (gable) roof & walls - Q; what do I put onto the timber walls before I inulate any membrane or just put the rockwool & then on top the plastic vapour barrier
thanks for your time & look forward to your response
Enjoyed the video, thankyou for the info👍
Great videos Liam, you are the home office master. All your advice makes sense and your team are brilliant. What is the model number of the Makita circular saw as I want to buy one. By the way Jen is the boss
Where’s my content hahaha hope all’s ok bud
I love these vids and have watched most of these. Liam and the team don't mess about, hard working and professional I'd say. Didn't like to hear that someone commented on your accent, fuck em!! Also that you had to block someone who was trolling you, fuck them too. I'm going to build a shed/sm workshop on my tiny garden and I've picked up so many tips from you guys, thanks.
Thanks for the video. It was very useful to us as we want to insulate and plaster our summer house.
Do you think a hot tub would affect the plaster and cause damp? We were thinking of putting a skylight and extractor fan in for ventilation. Also, could I ask why the electrician needed to install a consumer unit? We were thinking of running our electrics from a spare 32 amp MCB / RCD from the house consumer unit. Thanks.
Good video, I was looking at the insulation cost and doing it you way (with smaller sheets) is probably easier but around £4 a sqm more expensive than using 1200 x 2400 sheets. Another option is to use 450 spacing but that could cause you issues with boarding unless you use 1800x1200 boards.
Mate, but a dry wall gun.
Took me years to get one and now I don't know how I managed without it.
Think hammer and nails vs nail gun and that's how much quicker a dry wall gun will make putting plaster board up
Isn’t the vapour control layer compromised once the downlights have been cut out? Do the downlights need to be sealed somehow?
Was just thinking the same thing, now there are 8 ish 75mm holes in the vapour barrier
Well Simply The Best 👍👍👍
Hello mate
Is it definitely push the pir insulation right back to the outside osb board ?
I'm being told to leave it flush at the front with a 25mm gap between that and the outer osb
Cheers
Flush to the OSB mate
Ok cheers
I've got cement board horizontal with 25mm batten for ventilation over a cold roof cross battened
Breathable membrane osb
75mm celotex gaps filled and completely taped up and foil backed plasterboard
Got everyone telling me the celotex will sweat if it hard up against osb and not to leave a gap warm side from celotex to pasterboard.
Obviousely you know what your doing
Why are they saying it will sweat ?
Very useful video. I have some insulation foil rolls. Would that provide good insulation than using thermal boards in ceiling?
Thank f***. Someone who can decide for themselves what height to put sockets and switches.👍
"The regs say, the regs say"😁
Not legal, insurance would be void
@@dalebutton2469
In what way would your insurance be void?
You do realise that 'the regs' isn't a legal document, or requirement?
@@dalebutton2469 That can't be true because there are many situations where switches and points have to be below regs due to physical constraints. For insurance as long as the work is signed off then it's fine.
Put them where the fuck you want unless the dwelling isn't a new build
This one just made me subscribe..😂😂👍
Hi mate....still enjoying the vids and the bar garden room you inspired me to build following your great advice. 1 thing though....its bloody warm in summer if doors haven't been open. As I fitted 2 fixed windows. Ever fitted any ventilation of any sorts?
Great video thanks, question do you need to leave a gap behind the insulation boards, or can they be just pushed up against the wood?
Not sure why you’d go for 16a radial. 2.5twin and earth will handle 20a comfortably
Are your timber wall batons 50mm and your insulation 25mm?
If so why the gap?
What not fill the void with say 50mm insulation.
Cheers
Mark
My pir insulation is flush with the bottom of my roof joists as I have 50mm airflow above. So I've foil taped everything including the joists. Surely this will act as my vapour barrier?
PH is Philips, PZ is Pozidrive
Newby question I know, but what’s a vapour barrier for? Is it just to stop the insulation getting damp? Or is there another reason for it?
👍
Mate you scream squaddie vibes. The ammo tin confirmed it! Lol.
Do you come out as far as salisbury?
Is he trying to say "Continuity"
I was planning to use rock wool to insulate my pub shed for better sound proofing. Do I need to leave an air gap ? Was going to put a vapour barrier then ply board out . Thanks
Just a random question Liam what is the maximum gap I can leave for French doors before I need to install a steel? My roof is only 3m x 2m Keep up the greats videos learning quite a bit and very entertaining 👍
I’d put double timber over 1.8 mate, after I’d go steel, French doors are ok, but bifolds will bind if a couple of mm deflection mate
Do you fix the patress to the uprights or just let it fly behind the plasterboard?
Fix them through the studs mate
Hi,
If I do internal OSB walls and ceiling - do I vapour barrier after or before the OSB???
👀👀👀
Crap, I put my DPM on the wall, then the battons, then the insulation panels, then the plasterboard. Have I screwed up?
PZ has more contact with the crew head as it has 4 extra micro slots for grip the (little cross bits/lines) sit in the corresponding grooves of a pzcscrew head pH only have 4 points or torque contact. pH (Philips) head, PZ (pozi) head. And the pozi really means a more positive contact. There you know now. You would actually be surprised how many, very skilled craftsmen (or women) don't know that. 🤣🤣👊👊
Mate you need to invest in a drywall gun if you're boarding out every job, I use the DeWalt gun, impact and screw is so time consuming.
Cracking job though 👍🏻
Or just a drywall bit if you’re using a combi or driver, saves driving the screws through the board
Hi, great vids keep them coming.
I have a question about the hybrid roofs that you do, I'm now thinking about doing a side extension on my house with a flat roof and lantern, it's going to be used as a snug with a 900 opening knocked through from my dining room.
Would a hybrid roof work in this instance?
Can you insulate living rooms the same or just garden rooms this way 🤔
Can the overhangs be completely insulated and sealed up the same as the rest of the roof ?
you only need to insulate over the head plate mate, but its as easy to fill the sides and the rear anyway.
Any downside to doing it anyway? I actually fitted noggins over the wall plates things were trying to nest before I finished it lol
@jamesaamoore only down side it time taken mate, and a tiny cost, it’s all good
Hi, I couldnt quite hear what stapler you used/recommended. The one I have is slow and clunky so I would appreciate using a quick one like you have. Thanks!
we use a Dewalt one from Screwfix mate
Hi, just a quick question, what is the name of the Vapour barrier you use and from where. Thanks
How do you install electrics on a coke roof with a vapour barrier? Would cutting through the barrier not defeat its purpose?
I have a fiberglass flat roof with 2 roof lanterns and would like to know if I can use breathable vapour membrane between the insulation and plasterboard to prevent condensation. Thank you
Great content and very knowledgeable, seen most of the vids, but haven’t seen whether the pile system rods are high tensile zinc rod or mild steel zinc rod. Does anyone know??
Love the garden rooms , do you build them in Liverpool
Liam why do you not tape the vapor barrier ? Best builder on the planet ( Mike Holmes ) tapes everything, even the staple holes. Maybe not needed for garden rooms. Love the videos, learnt a load from them. keep them coming.
but that's in canada, where they have snow and vastly different temps across the year
here in the uk you can have all 4 seasons in one afternoon but it's never a huge difference
plus it's not a house as was explained and 90% is better than nothing
Some advice please. The company have installed my summer house and I am currently insulating it for the winter.
The roof battens are only 2.5 inches x 1.5 inches.
I was looking at using a hybrid roof putting the insulation against the Osb roof, leaving a gap and then vapour barrier before plasterboard. I’m not that confident due to the size of the roof battens my insulation is only 1inch thick. Will this be ok or shall I find an alternative method?
Would 25mm PIR in the walls be warm enough? On a budget
Could i do the same installation on my skylight shed. The walls are aprox 2mm thick and moulded to look like shiplap, its a very lite composites material.
The roof looks like clear plastic looking from the inside up letting in daylight. But looking down on it it looks black.
Hi , I hope someone can advise, I have a garage which I was going to turn into an outdoor office, On the internal walls I have concrete panels then its lined with OSB, there is a vapour barrier over all the OSB, then a a stud frame built with 3 x 2 I was going to use insulation between the stud wall voids then plasterboard without a further Vapour barrier over the stud wall and insulation. Will this cause me problems with moisture forming.
Any help or advice would be appreciated, you have no doubt gathered I am a novice at this type of work.
Thanks
I think this is the size for me but with a custom made side door big enough to get a motor bolt through aw well as the bifold door at front
I am getting a shed in the next few weeks, I can get hold of 150mm insulation boards cheap, it's alot thicker than I need, is it worth getting? Is it easy to trim tho size, if so how? Please
can you ask Adam if it's going to rain tomorrow? surely he knows...
Hi Liam - love the videos and content! I am just starting to build my own garden room - Im an ex floorlayer and have built a few structures so am going for it myself! Had a quick question - I have a few packs of dritherm 37 slabs left over from previous works at hom, could these be used in the wooden walls im building? they will be made like the ones you do (4x2 battens and structure, OSB/feather edged outer and plasterboarded interior) but I can see the dritherm says its for masonry walls - could this still be used in my wooden walls? Keen to reuse materials where I can and save the cost of buying all new enertherm for the building. Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated - thanks
Yes, as long as they aren't wet.
Will you be doing another video on the kingspan roofing panels?
Pozi drive screws have 4 extra points of contact.
Why not use foil blacked plasterboard
Liam, what ballast and cement mix do you use? Is it 3 to 1 and would a type 1 sub base do the trick
Did Adam wake up on the wrong side of bed
Do you have any problems with cracking after plastering?
Is a vapour barrier essential?
Iver Biggun accent! 🇨🇦👋
Just as I finished typing my question Liam asked it haha
But do you run the radiator on the same mains socket line
Do you need a vapour barrier or similar for the floor?
When putting the 100mm PIR in the floor frame how do you get over the fact the 4x2 isn’t a full 4”? I’m having a hell of a time….. I can’t see the Egger compressing it down!
We are supplied with a true 100mm timber mate, if your timber is circa 95mm lower your roofing Battens that support it, if that makes sense
@@thegardenroomguru Yep, I see what you're saying. Cheers Liam!
4m x 25m?
Hi, do you guys add vents to the inside of your garden rooms?
This is what I'd like to know as well but doesn't look like he's replied. I'm thinking of insulating my summerhouse myself but I don't want damp as I've got fixed closed windows.
@@nance7558 I never worked out if I need them as I have vented doors and windows. I suppose you could always add later if need be? I did insulate the entire structure of my garden room. Just going to start on my solar tracker panel system for power. Good luck with your project :0)
@@leeg713 Thanks for replying Lee. I couldn't afford vented doors and windows and like you said I can always put one in after 🤭
Hi all, just bought the build pack. Looks great and would definitely recommend!
Can anyone help please: I know if you build over 30m2 you need building regs... but if it's more, spread over multiple buildings E.g. 2 x 20m, would that still be building regs exempt? Thanks!
5% of your plot would require pp
50% in England & Wales
Hi Liam where do buy that ...no patience glue from.
Toolstation mate
Downlight setting out is way easier with a laser
