- A group of farm workers in Philippi’s Horticultural Area are part of the demographic of food-insecure people. They told Eyewitness News that it’s tough to think about voting when they go to sleep with empty stomachs, despite growing the food that nourishes others.

People live in poverty, but what have they done to uplift themselves. Do they pay municipal taxes, do they pay income taxes,? Did they finish school which they can do after hours too. If you can't afford food, how can you afford electricity? The local government cannot pluck money from the air to give housing to squatters and there are no jobs because the ANC government stopped job creation because of their racist BEE laws. Still the ANC government takes 60% of the western Capes money to prop up their areas in the rest of the mismanaged country.
