Purchased a second hand Montana in excellent shape a few years ago. 50# @ 28 which is my draw. I use GT Traditional arrows at 560 grains. Chronos at 164 fps which seems to be in tune with your results. Yea, a little hand shock. Excellent value for the money.
I bought a 50lb Montana a couple years back. Many said not to due the the bow kicking so hard that it’d knock a filling loose. I felt that was quite the exaggerated story. I used mine with rabbit fur silencers (which it didn’t need). Very quiet bow, paired with a selway slide on quiver. To me the bow a a slight thump but imo it was just normal feedback from the bow that you shot sn arrow. Nothing harsh at all. I like the Montana a lot. If bear did a nice beaver tail wrap on the handle they’d sell even more of these bows.
Wow second best bow? Nice ... it is a good looking Bow, I really don't see a problem with the lettering to make it a second had bow ... but that's just me. I am shocked that with how long the Long Bows are the sight windows are really small in comparison! But hey, I guess it's not a big deal, shoots nice ... good luck with it my friend, and God bless ya!
I have a Montana in 50lb. I took a deer with it this year. My poundage was exactly 50 lbs at 28 on the bow scale. I shoot best with this style bow I don't know why. Maybe because it's so forgiving
Good morning. I want to thank you , I'm been watching bow reviews for a while to get my first one ,when I saw you review on this one I went and got a Montana 30 long bow now I just need to get some more practice arrows. Nice place and good help Gainesville prochop. Thanks I subscribed and been watching you videos.
Put a 6 strand 450 plus string on it and it will seam like a custom bow. Ok that's a stretch lol. The heavier the string i.e. brass nocks, string silencers longer serving, the more hand shock! love your videos.
If folks in this country get sucked-chumped to give up their guns and ammo, the bow and arrow might be an awesome weapon to protect ones property and family. Cool long bow, bro!
Nice video. Subscribing was easy decision. Your shooting about same specs as me (tho I'm shooting a 55lb Montana to get 50lb at my Hobbit draw length lol) love my Montana. Just like you i didn't like the stock string at all so got a custom one made by GrizzlyJim. Now it's a great bow. Mine definitely likes heavy arrows too. My hunting arrow is 635g at 22% FOC. Don't know it's FPS, tho I just brought a crono. Used exactly same arrow to kill a huge elk cow in Canada. Looking forward to working my way though your videos. Greetings from the UK.
Nice! That is about how much I paid for mine. Mine is a bit too heavy for me at 55# I need to lift some weights for a bit to pull it back comfortably haha!
I believe your arrow speed/weight is being stated backwards as 600 spine arrows are lighter than 500 spine arrows. You will have to double check your arrows and fps captured. I shoot the same bow at 45lbs, but my draw length is about 2” less than yours and I’m pushing 150fps with 500 spine arrows and 200gr broadheads. Good luck this season Todd… you shoot great… 3 arrows touching at 20yds… nice.
So your Chart at 9:51 says 50lbs @ 29.5" and the video label says 45Lbs @ 28". Are you saying the 1.5" of overdraw give you 5 lbs? I recently purchased a Montana at 45lbs@28". The weight in the bow shop showed 47lbs at 28" on mine. I am planning on shooting an arrow around 500grs and I am expecting near 180fps. Once I get my arrows setup I will update this post.
The bow is rated for 45lbs @ 28 inches, but the actual weight is 47 pounds @ 28 inches which I confirmed with my draw scale and the weight marking Bear places behind the arrow rest. At my draw of 29.5 inches the bow pulls just over 50 pounds. This is confirmed with my draw scale. Every inch over the rated draw length will add from 1.5 to 3 pounds at least in my experience. Hope that clears it up...Thanks for watching
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 Well, the bow was new. Happened on the second day. I had bought it from 3Rivers. So I got ahold of 3Rivers about it. They sent me a full refund, and notified Bear. Bear sent me a shipping label to send the bow back to their factory in Florida. I had some minor cuts and bruises, on my face and head, and I was asked by 3Rivers if I planned on suing for personal injury, but I said no, it's nothing serious. The hell of it was, that was my very first bow, almost 3 years ago now. I just wanted to learn about traditional archery. I wanted a longbow, and Bear had a long reputation for quality so I went that route. After I got my refund ($399), I used that money as a downpayment on my Toelke Whip. The Toelke was finished in only three weeks, and is made here in Montana, so I received it quick. Kind of a long-winded story, but that's how it went. Shane
@@shanepitzer4126 glad you were not hurt to seriously.. I guess even a company like Bear archery misses one every now and then. So how do you like the Toelke. I am thinking of getting one myself...
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 I really like my Whip. It's a 64", and 40# at 28". Since I draw 32" it's about 50# at my draw. Nice smooth sdhooter, quiet, no hand shock. And the ctaftsmanship is amazing. It's a beauty to look at. I went with the micarta riser, mango veneers on the belly and back, cocobolo accents. I spoke with Dan Toelke on the phone about what I wanted and he is very helpful and friendly. He will have you make a trace of your hand on a sheet of papaer so they can shape the grip to give you a really nice custom fit. Also they do the tiller to be perfect with either a split or three-under draw. They call the three-under their 'apache', and it is indicated on the bow limb where the length and weight specs are written. Long way of saying I don't think you would be disappointed with a Toelke bow.
Hi, just wanted to share some issues I had with two brand new Montana longbows and request you ask Jared if there's any plan to resolve it, both bows developed a split at the shelf down through the handle, 3 rivers is supposed to take care of my lose with a different bow that has extra layers on the back of the handle, kodiac hunter
I love your reviews, but I am Not really sure why you say accuracy test when you are such an accurate shooter. How can you say the bow has much to do with it at all?
Bear Montana is a piece of crap, low performance and stacks like lifting iron yet the increase in speed is not there. 45 pound at 28 inches draw, 400 grain arrow, yet I draw to 31 inches. 150-160 feet per second, thats it, through bow shop chronograph. Junk performance!!! No performance.
That is not the performance I am getting you may have a bad bow I would reach out to Bear Archery about it. Check my review and you will see actual performance from the bow which is quite good.
Nice hat and bow! It’s nice that you’re letting us know about the factory 2nd bows
You are most welcome

That is true but the added weight of the point and insert is what makes the difference here. Best of luck to you as well.
I think he was talking arrow weight in grains...spine refers to the stiffness of the arrow.
