Those opening few lines in this song is one of the best I've ever heard in a reggae tune. "It's best to rise with a smile on your face Just like the sunshine all over the place" 👍👍
I saw the Silvertones on Monday at John Holt's funeral. Very nice I love the song, "Smile", by The Silvertones..."It's best to rise, with a smile on your face; Just like the sun shine, all over the place; Don't be like the night when it's dark; Cause darling, you're the nearest to my heart...Why won't you dance, dance, dance this Reggae music...dance, dance, dance this rebel music. Those guys are bad I have the 12" with the version "I Can't Get Over Losing You" on the B side.
Jim Lawrence Ok Jim, first of all no question is dumb. I had to call and ask Keith (Coley), who is the lead singer of the The Silvertones, because I myself wasn't sure of the answer. so straight from the "horse's" mouth, the answer is, NO; but they were known also as "The Valentines", when they just started out...so says Mr. Coley
@@dehdehjavaa He is 100 % right. I remember them well as I was with my group the JAMAICANS I was the lead singer then. Blessed love to all the Silvertones good to know you are still with us. 1 heart.
Great foundation track!!!! Garnet Silk & Beres hammond had a song on this riddim in the early 90's called "Hello Mama Africa" and "Come Home" respectively.
Wow, what a beautiful piece of tune, no doubt from the 70's when music nearly dun mek for true. How the 70's-ites took for granted the sweetness of those records because they were so plentiful at the time. Sweet & mellow just like jello. Now that my soulful desire has been aroused me naw watch no more fool fool Xfactor. Will try C if the misses will get up & dance, dance, dance this reggae music with me. I'll try & put her in the mood. How sweet Yes Indeed.
This tune sounds so good because it's closer to a Rocksteady beat than it is to reggae. To my ears rocksteady was the wickedest sound to come from the Caribbean.
Well this is the cross over point from rocksteady to reggae, I would still class it as reggae though but you wouldn't be wrong to class as rocksteady though.
This is the original plus its the original cut, there is a re released version which is the 1977, the mix of that version is a bit more even and everything sounds more present as well.
8.48pm Sunday night June 29 , 2008 England UK my house is rocking to this song. Set this in stone forever Zion Respect
It is difficult to find a tune that tops this. Total classic.

Sorry for this dumb question, but it seems you would know...are these guys also known as The Three Tops?

This was originally recorded in and released in 1968, but everyone might be more familiar with the 1977 re cut of it.
