In the trade for Brian Burns, Giants get a two-time Pro Bowl defensive end / EDGE linebacker in exchange for the No. 39 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and a 2025 fifth-round pick Panthers will also have an additional fifth-round pick swap.
The Giants also signed Burns to an extension for five years worth up to $150 million, including $87.5 million guaranteed and an additional $9 million in incentives.
Burns is now the second-highest-paid edge rusher in the league and the fourth-highest-paid defensive player
Burns was drafted by the Panthers in 2019 with the No. 16 pick. Played in more than 80 games in five seasons, recorded 46 sacks, including a career-high 12.5 in 2022. He earned Pro Bowl nods in 2021 and 2022

The Los Angeles Rams reportedly offered two first-round picksand a second-round pick for Burns at the 2022 trade deadline, but the Panthers inexplicably declined
Burns' cap hit for 2024 will be $23.5 million before maxing out at $30.5 million in the final two years of the deal.
Former GM Dave Gettleman tried to trade up for Burns in the 2019 draft. Unable to execute a deal, Gettleman stood pat and landed Lawrence with the 17th pick
Burns has missed only 3 games in 5 seasons.
