20120617 roerdomp zonhoven (België) HD 1080 natuurkanaal

Roerdomp (Botaurus stellaris /Great Bittern) opgenomen in het vijvergebied bij Zonhoven in België. Prachtig gebied met in totaal ± 1000 visvijvers waarvan een aantal als natuurgebied ontwikkeld worden. Enkele roerdompen waargenomen in een weekeinde.
Zonlicht op bewegend water en lopen in de observatiehut(trillen) maakte de opnames extra moeilijk.
Helaas was de kenmerkende roep niet zo intens als in het vroege voorjaar. Volgens de "kenners" zijn ze hees van het vele roepen??

i see many thanks, ive been watching bitterns in uk for 25 years and i never get bored of them, i assume we have about 60-100 pairs in uk during the breeding season, thanks for the information and regards

If I should believe the figures published bij scientists very rare and has Belgium about 10 to 15 breeding pairs. Zonhoven and surroundings seems to be a key environment for the bittern with a lot of old fish-ponds.
In Holland, where I live, the amount of breeding pairs is estimated on about 250 at this moment. So filming one of these birds is unique.
