I think I'm addicted to these old films
They are definitely worth the gander. I keep a repository of these films for my Home Schooled Children. I often watch them for the shear enjoyment. They also benefit me by affording me better insight into the Greatest Generation that I grew up with in my neighborhood. As the only child left in that old post-War Boomer neighborhood, they were all my best friends. I always found the stories of their Lives extremely riveting. My Dad and Uncle Served in WWII. My Step-Mom was a Rosie Riveter and my Aunt was a USO volunteer.
Hellish labor and courageous people👍🏻
Stokely Carmichael apparently derived his entire philosophy from an obscure film about coal mining.
Then they describe a "company town," where songs were written about exactly that. Look up "16 Tons."
Sang that in a Middle School city choral competition choir.
I saw the thumbnail and thought it was about BLM for a sec til I read the title lol
Wow that was a twist.
Originally released in April 1954.
Can't wait for the video on the dairy industry called white uhh...
LOL!
But white powder would mean something else.
I think this would be a wonderful opportunity to take a pause for a moment and give thanks for the many great contributions of the Black community and their culture to our society. Their peaceful and generous nature makes them ideal neighbours, lending testimony to their exceptional family values and parenting skills unrivaled by any other culture.Their commitment to academic excellence enriches our schools and serves as an example to all who hope to achieve prominence as a people. Real Estate values are fueled by the influx of African Americans into an area due to their caring and respectful nurturing of these communities, an example of all they have achieved by their enthusiasm for self-improvement through hard work and a self-reliant can-do nature. Without their industrious and creative drive, we would be poorer as a nation.
Did you even bother to watch the video? To see what the context of the video was.
@@jrondyer1049 it’s about bl*ck people? I just looked at the title.
Went right over them....^^^^ 😉
ah sarcasm at it's best!!! may they all burn in hell!!!
Yep. Just look at Detroit and how far along it has come in the last 60 years. I couldn't agree more.
moms side of the family was filed with hard coal miners in plymoth penn
it one job i always wanted to do at least for a bit
They do t make films like these anymore. And it really sucks. The closest I’ve seen is from the series modern marvels. But they tend to be a lot more adhd(probably because they had to fit in 100 ads between the commercial breaks). Anyway. It’s cool to see
2:10 In other words, a mind that's weak but a back that's strong.
I'm disappointed with the mine owners and the state and federal government for not doing anything to help the miners now that coals demand will drop significantly with better and more ecological sound means of generating power and other industries the miners are being left out of a job with little prospects for help whole communities are being affected!
There should be some type of reeducation system and I think that the location of most mines would be ideal for Eco tourism and jobs and business opportunities for the people displaced by the closing of the mines!
Will it fall? The Poles suffer from a lack of coal before the onset of winter. After all, they refused coal from the Donbass. It's time to cash in on the Poles by selling them exorbitantly expensive coal (if the bad Poles don't want to buy cheap coal from the Donbass)
This was sooo misleading
WE WAZ KANGZ N MINARS
So that’s how “they” came about. They were coal miners. And all along I thought “they” came from Africa. 🤦♀️
No hydrogen to reduce the co2 at all, just pure carbon. (and ash)
This stuff needs to be replaced with methane asap.
I could make so many comments about this , 90+ negative no doubt, but I shan't.
Thought this was going to be about rioting and looting. Am I the only one?
I also thought that the film was about the power of evil blacks in the black ghetto
I don't like coal tho
but coal is steel! Metallurgy is impossible without coal! And without steel, there are no cars...
Your comment is beyond unintelligent.
Gee they sure can make coal mining a wonderful lifestyle… Black Power I thought Black Panthers
Yep, 1951 - when coal was still king. An acre of coal, 5 feet thick. $30,000. A huge amount of money in the early 50s.
In case anyone else is curious, that's 20,473,200 pounds or 9,306 tons so $3.22 a ton. That's based on solid anthracite coal weighing 94.02 lbs per cu ft and 43,560 square feet per acre times 5 feet deep.
Anthracite is STILL KING!
@@Most_Trustworthy_Weasel after metallurgy became electric (metal is smelted in electric furnaces), coal became unnecessary.
@@Most_Trustworthy_Weasel Anthracite is best, but a Wyoming unit train of Natty Light-tier coal makes cheap MWs!
@@perisher1976
Anthracite has many other properties making it far more valuable then besides for coking or heat as was its previous uses.
This looks and sounds fantastic as far as the restoration of the video! Nice work! I almost laughed about the title when a bunch of white guys were shown at the beginning of “ Black Power” 🤣
And I thought that the film would be about how to defeat blacks who think about power, to judge them by lynching
If I remember correctly and not cheating with Google, the "Black Power" some people thought this film would be about started as a slogan in the mid-1960s for black political candidates, and it was named after a book. It was then wildly adopted by the Black Panthers, which I think also started in the mid 1960s.
i misread it i thought it said blackpowder!!!
I thought something was amiss regarding the etymology of this film's title the second I heard 'West Virginia' Thanks for the clarification.
The censoring elite Democrat factfarters at UA-cam-Google have ruled as “disinformation” and “hate” the false idea that this presentation is about the African American protest movement.
Yes, a completely racist term used by certain racist Black folks. It grew from their supremacist ideology.
The name of the federal connected Pinkerton's are still spat on the ground in certain parts of the country for their abuse of union workers just advocating for better working conditions for these coal miners.
They deserve to be spat about for even more reasons these days.
I got a pal out in West Elizabeth doing the same to this day. There ain't enough thyme big-game meat and small-game arrows in all of New Austin to change that dude's mind!
Don't mind me. I'm just here in anticipation of all the memes that will be made out of the title of this film.
Unfortunately UA-cam won’t let us have fun ☹️
Lol.
At 1:57, it says that they are "fiercely democratic." Their grandchildren are fiercely Republican!
They’re referring to the notion of democracy. That’s what it means to be “democratic”. It has nothing to do with politics.
Now the jaws of a twentieth century dinosaur eat into the fallen coal and fill a five ton mine car in thirty seconds. It’s part of the modern miracle of mechanized mining, typical of American industrial ability.
that title got me confused for a moment...
black power! black power! black power! LOL
you laugh on your knees in front of blacks?
@@perisher1976 huh? what? what are you even talking about?
Living in southern West Virginia in the 80's, many of the miners lived like it was the 1950's. I notice that this film from the 1950's the families are living like it was the 1930's. Not too much progressive living out of all of this Black Power.
Very interesting! Coal companies probably didn’t pay well either! Imagine all the profits being taken by aristocratic suits in NY on the board of these companies!
WV doesn't need progressive living, but the progressive living needed WVs coal. Now the so called progressives are leaving the miners with their asses hanging in the wind. Economic warfare against energy producing localities is what this is.
@@Calebjoyemusic as long as there are fools who are ready to forge the wealth of the rich for a beggarly wage, the rich will get richer!
But, at least you got a good job as lead singer for the band Journey!
These are very lucrative and highly sought after jobs.
Great episode of the mining coal and the workers who work the mines and the Hazzards that come with the work
as long as there are fools who are ready to forge the wealth of the rich for a beggarly wage, the rich will get richer!
My God! The wonderous energy and American power and ingenuities to process this stuff!
America should be forging ahead and mining more coal! trillions of tons of it! We need coal! Now! Forever!
You load 16 tons, what do you get?
Another day older and deeper in debt
St. Peter, don't you call me 'cause I can't go
I owe my soul to the company store
Keep in mind that just about five years before this film was produced there was a regional coal strike that was primarily about working conditions.
I was literally going to comment the exact same part of that song. 🤣
. . And before Nixon "temporarily" closed the gold window, $33 was worth an ounce of gold.
I feel badly for the horse.
horse is meat, food!
@@perisher1976 Maybe in your country.
This end scene is super familiar to a coke plant in follansbee WV with the bridge
An acre of coal now, 5 foot thick is worth well over a million dollars.
thanks for the global warming grandpa
we need moa blac pawa, my bradas
My new favorite channel. Would love if the film was 1080p.
