I stay at Balewadi, Pune, India and now know what Bird keeps me up at night ! I've been trying to identify these high pitched calls and my recent birdwatching trips led me to this video. Thank you !
Some say that these birds bring about bad luck to the person who listen to their chirping noise...but my opinion is that no creature is shubh or ashubh.. no one is superior or inferior ...its just the framework of human mind..after all we all our children of the same almighty 🙏
When I study in the night, these birds visit the empty place in front of my building and make this sound but I really enjoy it. Atleast someone is awake with me.

They make nests on the ground which can be threatened by anyone very easily that's why we hear these alarm sounds quite a lot. In Punjab I used to hear it a lot when tractors ploughing the fields.
Thanks for the info. We have many nesting at our college in Sharjah, UAE and I've wondered about mortality rates as they nest in such ridiculous situations. However the figures you quote about egg and chick mortality prove that once they are capable of leaving the nest, they are very elusive. I've been trying to get a good picture of a chick for a couple of weeks, but the only thing I've found is a fox, presumably looking for the same thing.
Yes , this is noisy bird , her or his call disturbing to human, and predator of jungle ,like Tigers, Leopard , wolf, hyenas . but other animal welcome this call, because , for safety of life. thanks for visit.
Really, it scares predators? I'm sure a predator would want to eat regardless of the call, usually predators are scared away if the animal has a show of strength or size, didn't know about sound though. One bird is noisy enough to wake up the whole block lol.
