Well that explains a lot in 3 minutes .My bow is a 35lb turkish bow but about 100 arrows daily . My shoulders were crying at night from the bad form . Thanks for the self help video !
Every time I watch one of your videos, I'm like "oh now I know what I'm doing wrong".... I'm a beginner and loving the sport so all these valid points are helping me so keep'm coming! Thanks again 👍👍
So incredibly helpful. I just bought a 40# slick stick and was a bit discouraged when I got it, I thought it was too heavy for me. After watching this video, practicing this and rotating my elbow vertically for about an hour I can shoot the bow with ease. Truly, thank you Armin your videos are the best!
Pull-ups, handstand/pike push-ups, good warmup (and some stretching if you're having issues), but most importantly: Kepp your damn shoulderblades as close together as possible. That's the key to proper posture not only in archery but in your everyday life
as always good advice for ppl who do not mind form and risk injury. i wish more archers would be more mindful of the mechanics of what they do and how so they can know their consistancy
Great video Armin. I went through a similar shoulder issue when I started shooting again. My solution was to focus on keeping the inside of my elbow facing perpendicular to the ground, with the wrist(not the shoulder) rotating to accommodate the bow's to shooting angle. Your video takes this much deeper, thanks!
Great video and saw instant improvement in bow stability when I tried it. It seems that any other Olympic Archery influenced videos and books focus on the inner elbow being vertical and for me to do this it means my shoulder needs to be raised and brought forward leading to instability and more fatigue.
Go back to basics is always an excellent idea. :) My shoulder is the first thing I think about, adding the sensation of my draw hand on it to feel the rotation and the movement down. Thanks Armin :)
I start studying your videos for learn thumb draw. I'm going to leave the Recurve Bows. I already got a #30 Fiberglass Bow to start with the thumb. Must be very proud of his disciples. Thank you very much for your videos.
Great video. I’ve been dealing with some bow arm shoulder discomfort while shooting but couldn’t figure out what was the issue. No discomfort at all when I drop/relax the shoulder. Thanks!
As someone suffering from impingement syndrome I have to say thanks for bringing this subject up. BUT.... not all archery related shoulder injuries are caused by "bad form". Excessive shooting combined with lack of a warm up and warm down routine also play a huge part. Since having shoulder issues Ive come to realize how many other experienced archers out there are suffering too! My advice?... Yes, make sure your form is correct and strong but dont neglect warm ups etc
sadly it does not , preventing injuries start before you draw the bow ,how to recover should be supervised with physiotherapy depending on many factors
This is a great one, yet again! Very helpful and giving me lots to think on as I save up to buy my first bow after having been away from it for so long. I was in a BAD accident in 2010 in which I had numerous severe injuries, one of which was a broken T-4 vertebrae in my back. Because of it’s location and the nature of the break, I deal with periodic nerve issues with the whole right arm. And you guessed it…, I’m right-handed for the most part.😆 I was curious, do you have any videos covering hand injuries as well?
Thanks for that helpful short video! BTW, I really recommend Archery Anatomy by Axford Ray, referenced by enormous archery tutorials and publications, the book discusses and illustrates the static form of correct bone alignment. It's available on Kindle.
Hi Armin, I recently bought the nika archery crab bow and I've really enjoyed learning to shoot with a thumb release, however today while shooting the bow snapped in half, I think this is because I'm 6'5" so my draw length is around 32". Are there any affordable bows you could recommend that would accommodate my draw length. Thanks
This made me recheck my tehnique. But, unrelated, seing as how this is your latest video, I've seen you say "this is a good beginner bow". So I'm wondering, what makes a bow good for beginners? And what makes a bow good for advanced users. It's a topic I haven't found an answer to.
Third, they lift the bow with a straight arm. While the deltoid muscles are plenty strong enough to lift a bow safely, if you are shooting 100+ shots in a session, we are in the repetitive-use zone, where repetitive-use injuries can start occurring. The biggest problem is that deltoid pulls superiorly on the glenohumeral (shoulder) joint. Repetitive use causes the muscle to tighten and shorten. If the shoulder adductors do not counter and cause the deltoid to relax, lengthen, and balance the muscles around the joint, the humerus can move superiorly in the socket and cause painful impingement. If you are having impingement, you can do pull-down and shoulder rotation exercises. The key here is not strengthening alone but balancing the shoulder muscles. To avoid this type of injury, bend the bow arm elbow lifting the bow toward the waist and pull down the shoulder. Then, push the bow out to shooting position as the elbow straightens keeping the shoulder pulled down in the proper lowered position..
I learned shoulder alignment very quickly on my own due to a martial arts background. This video is good confirmation though, thanks. My problem is my drawing arm shoulder. I tore my rotator cuff (work related) & I can't build it back up. Any advice?
Can u tell me why i cant curve an carbon arrow.. But when i use fiber arrow it curve too much. Can u explain how to choose the right arrow for curving..
Total non-expert reply, but if I'm understanding things correctly it sounds like a spine issue. If an arrow is too stiff/not stiff enough relative to the poundage of the bow, it will curve. Too stiff and the arrow will curve left, not stiff enough and the arrow will curve to the right.
@@RichardFleming yup my carbon arrow is 600spine but my fibre arrow is 700 spine but when me use for normal shooting my carbon arrow is more stable than fibre ..
Sound advice Armin. I wish I had been told this years ago and perhaps I wouldn't have a nagging shoulder problem. No more 90lb English longbows for me! Using heavy bows, without appropriate conditioning and training, is a major source of injury. These days 45lb is a maximum for an old fart like me. Flaxen Saxon
Hallo Armin. Gleb
I think I get the "shoulder roll" thing; I see new shooters doing that when they're more concerned about "aiming" than they are about getting a proper draw.
As an archery beginner with a previous history of shoulder issues, this video could not have come at a better time for me. Thank you!

Sooo helpful. I got a bit of neck ache yesterday and i think this was my issue, bunching up my bow shoulder instead of doing this. Thankyou 👍🏻
Pushing on the wall to feel this was a big help. Thanks again, i keep coming back here for this great info.

Perfect timing as always. Was talking to a young guy at our club about this last night. I'll get him to watch this 😁

You're right, I have missed three minute Fridays! I mainly shoot low poundage bows but this is something I work on. Basics rule supreme.

Thank you, that was clear and to the point, and exactly what I needed to see
