Would you say your horse is underweight, overweight, or the ideal weight? Do you know how to tell? Knowing how to body condition score a horse is an essential part of being a horse owner, so we're giving you the chance to learn about it along with us on SmartPak's Barn Field Trip.
Every few months, SmartPak sends both new and current employees from every department to a local barn to learn about hay, grain, and other feeds from Dr. Lydia Gray, SmartPak's Staff Veterinarian.
The third video in our Barn Field Trip series focuses on how to use the Henneke Horse Body Condition Scoring System to adequately assess your horse's body condition. Click here (pak.horse/1NFtcBW) to download a worksheet and test yourself along with the SmartPakers!

Top line is muscle not fat so much the type and sex of a horse can affect the top line ie stallions have a lot of topline
He’s is defiantly a five only
Wither and shoulders hips and ribs
An inverted crease is really seen in horsesthat score over five
Scout is probobly a 5 and a half or 6
You should be able to feel the ribs but not count them in the dark
"hey, I am not fat, stop it !!! .. or my mom will not feed me anymore those tasty sweet treats .." ...
