I love the way these games give you this almost tangible sense of comfort and respite when you are near that bonfire. What it represents in game, and by extension what it means to you as a player of videogames, is something that can feel almost spiritual at times.

Today I was assaulted, they stole my cell phone and my bicycle. They hit me very hard on the head with the butt of a gun and I had to receive medical assistance. I'm fine, here now, listening to this beautiful music and ambience. Thank you.

Sometimes I wish FromSoft had LESS integrity and just said "Here's Dark Souls 4 and you can expect another one every two years." But I have to remember that it being over is part of what makes it special. All the best things come to an end.

The Firelink Shrine is the only place on Dark Souls III that has a music and it's not from a boss fight. This tells you that this is your home.
