I remember coming to the conclusion that it’s not my right, my responsibility nor my burden to change the narcissist in my life.
This was before I knew anything about narcissism.
I left for 12 years. However, I allowed myself to be worn down by relentless chaos n love bombing and I came back. 😑
Biggest mistake ever. Now I’m a shell of the woman I once was. I’m in my 60’s now and I feel hopeless.
If you find the courage to leave, run and don’t look back!!! EVER!

Does that work as a good metric for self diagnosis: if you want to change your faults you're probably not narcissistic?

I thought I was a narcissist but after some deep soul searching while embracing the Holy Spirit, I found out that I was a highly sensitive codependent person who had a huge heart and highly empathetic. I apologized to the people I may have hurt (pushed away) in my life but there is one person I had to completely cut off was my own biological father.

I'm no expert but in my experience narcissistic behavior seems to lead to financial and social success in life. Narcissistic people are great at charming (or scaring) people in to feeding into what ever the narcissist is trying to achieve. This just reenforces their behaviour. Asking them to change is like saying hey would you like a pay cut ? would you like to lose all that you've gained so far? I know people who have had literally everything in life handed to them including realestate, boats , cars and income etc etc and they still want more. They get what they want not by earning it but through being master manipulators and making others provide and work for them. I think if there was a real motivation to change it would only be in order to win their next trophy what ever that might be.

They will never change I was in it for 12yrs and the false promises I will change and the constant abuse and anger and holding me in an apartment against my will and verbally, emotionally, physiologically, physically, financially abused me and the cheating and he was a cop that showed his fake side to his peers and behind closed doors he was the true him the abuser just like his mother and his father. He never wanted to go to therapy and I did while I was in it and I had to leave and he tried to kill me so many times with his vehicle and by food with something in it to make sick all the time and wouldn't take me to the hospital and I suffered by being in a cage and couldn't go anywhere unless it was with him and the controlling was everyday and the verbal and mental abuse was debilitating and now I am suffering with the effects of trauma and I was abused as a childhood by my parents and bullied in school and abused by workers, supervisors and so called friends. I am way to sensitive and empathic for this cruel world that I am so tired of getting abused by people. I am so broken and hurt where I have had a hard time trusting, and I just feel like giving up at times. I am in so much pain every day, and the triggers and trauma are so painful, and all I do is cry. 😢

Someone told me my ex-husband went to therapy right after we separated from him. They said he has changed, it was less than 6 months. Someone else said he is doing the same thing he did to you with these two young ladies at the church social group, please come and speak up.
Nope, not going anywhere next to that evil spirited person. He is simply working his plan agenda, as he told me he would.
He didn’t change, still lying about me to everyone. So glad I was able to get away from his abusive, cheating, lying, pretending self. Thank God my kids saw him for who he was, didn’t have to explain anything to them.

The Ex I divorced told the marriage counselor that he is perfect and his alcoholic mother is perfect and his dad who left when hecwas born is perfect. And because he is so perfect, that is how he knew I was always the problem. Lying so badly. In truth he was a fake catholic secretly buying prostitutes during the week. So grateful to God for God's grace and help for me to divorce him. He is creepy.

"What if I can change them"
"What if this time they are better person than before"
Until 20 years wasted, and a lot of victim see it and finally leave for real this time, and said to themselves, I should leave sooner

My narcissist kidnapped and sexually assaulted me in 2020. Well, it would have been sexual assault if it happened in my state, but he took me to a state where it was apparently not a problem.
I got a final restraining order (not an easy feat in NJ) that he would break in amazingly creative ways, so much so that even the police couldn’t help. He would tell his friends that they could sublet my house, and when those friends would show up, I’d call the police, and they’d produce leases signed by my ex. The police would say it was a “civil matter” and would leave.
He wore me down so much. I only stayed in that house to protect my flock of sheep. It was nightmarish every day.
Over three years later he is still trying to bring me back to court to change or dissolve the restraining order.
And oh how I have heard how he would change! So many promises of change. No evidence, ever.

Yes, God can change a person. The problem is narcissist don’t see the harm they are doing or don’t want to change. God won’t just change a person. Like a sinner needs to stop sinning. He won’t make them stop, they have to choose.

Mel it might interest you to know that from Islamic perspective narcissistic behaviour is the personal embodiment of ungodly [satanic] principles while the adaptation of unadulterated Islamic principles as revealed by Almighty Allah results in deep empathy and unadulterated kindness, and when you add this with belief and worship of Him as the Only Supreme Being, the Creator of all else and the Source of every goodness you get the sum total of Islam.

Sorry..I don't get the point if they cant change someone may say their evil behaviour is justified..so how come some one created with rigid personality style will be judged by God (punished) for evil behaviour if he or she cant change ?
what iam sure about is that god is absolute fair..and you cant imagine that the narcisst who crossed the border to crime level won't be punished by god but again ...god won't punish them if he didn't give them the choice ؟ and the choice should be either toxic behaviour or controlling it!!
