Coco Martin Reveals the True Nature of Diwata: She’s Not a Headache!
The Teleserye King, Coco Martin, showered praise on Diwata (Deo Balbuena in real life), the "Pares Diva." From her viral eatery, Diwata now stars in the primetime action series "FPJ's Batang Quiapo," where she plays the role of a karinderya owner, helping Tanggol (Coco) and Bubbles (Ivana Alawi) realize their feelings for each other.
In an interview with MJ Felipe of ABS-CBN News, Coco shared how Diwata landed her role in "Batang Quiapo" and why he admires the viral paresan owner.
“We had a small scene with a dining setup. I said, 'Try calling Diwata. If she shows up, it means the role is meant for her.' And while I was being creative, she arrived,” Coco recounted.
Their conversation was detailed, “I told her, 'I'm sorry, you know how it is when you start in this job, life is like this.' She replied, 'No problem.'”
Coco explained to Diwata, “There’s a commitment. We tape M-W-F (Mondays-Wednesdays-Fridays).”
“She said, 'Whatever it is, I’m dedicated.’”
On set, Coco saw Diwata's talent. “In the first scene, she was nervous, but in the following scenes, she relaxed and showed her skill.”
Coco added, “What I like about her is that she understands the job because she came from humble beginnings. She doesn’t keep people waiting, she’s not a headache. She stays quietly on the side.”
“She’s kind. It’s gratifying to help someone who wants to improve their life and themselves. And she knows her place," Coco concluded.
