    Enjoyed it a bunch! Thanks, Bruce. I have a 2013 Outback and love to drive the woods, but I'd be chicken to do what you did! I Had a 2007 Forester which I was crazy about and gave it to my daughter. I beat the crap out of it but never seemed to phase it one bit! Great cars, those Subarus!

  • @thorxahest
    @thorxahest 4 роки тому +2

    yep, the big problem of older Subarus is it transfers more power for wheel wich has not connection with the surface, it's good for standard driving, but in terrain is useless :( In newer models i see it is prooved that makes Subaru great car again, thanks for movie :)

    Hey bud. I saw your other videos of you climbing in Colorado. Cool stuff man! I've seen other videos showing the Outback literally stopping and doing nothing while going up steep hills. was this because the Xmode is so intrusive or do they just not have the torque to go up a steep hill? I'm planning on buying the Outback 3.6R. What are your thoughts?

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 років тому +1

      Not Enough Torque. At 13,000 feet elevation on a 4 cylinder model calculations put me at around 90 HP at the crank. I don't think it was X-Mode or even the CVT's fault.

    I have a '15 XTrek, I wish I had trails like that in my area of SW OH.
    For your low mpg highway, have you tried adding 2psi or so to the tires? Non-stock tires sometimes need non-stock pressures to ride right. The larger tires on the Charger I used to have ran great at 40 psi. Don't exceed the psi rating on the sidewall.

    • @bruceyyyyy

    Compared to the stock tires; how is the ride quality, responsiveness, and most importantly noise, with those BFGs?

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 років тому

      Just drove to Utah and am driving back to WV now. They did great. power at altitude was the biggest problem. There is slightly more noise, But less noisy than my snow tires.

    • @JosephSanders
      @JosephSanders 8 років тому

      +bruceyyyyy I've got the Limited, and haven't been too impressed with the noise from the stock tires. I gotta convince the old lady we need some of these on ours 😎

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 років тому

      +Joseph Sanders if you have the 4 cylinder, I'd recommend sticking with stock size if you plan high altitude. We climbed black bear pass (12,000 feet) yesterday and I was standing on the gas pedal just to make the car do 5 mph. Every little bit of gearing will help in that situation. Below 6000 feet I've never had this problem.

    • @JosephSanders

      The 2" lift made no difference in ride quality. A bit looser when slaloming.
      The tires did make a difference, it wasn't awful but it was noticeably worse. Likely from being so heavy. Way worse mileage as well. I only run these tires when off road and have a normal street set for every day use.

      Best option for the outback after much research is downsizing to 17 inch wheels, unless you have the diesel 2.0 that comes with them, and opting for 235/65 not 245/65 though either size is good. Smaller rims means slightly better torque, no need to remove mud flap and if you choose mid all terrains AT/S not MUDs, the difference is negligible. Love the improvement with AT tyres And love the outback,!

      I lifted it with Anderson Design Kit. 2 Inch Lift Kit.
      It handles the same since it's a 'body' lift.

      I had Yokohama Geolander AT/S 235/65 on new 17 inch alloys fitted recently and drove 2000klms on quite harsh rocky roads in north western NSW Australia. Quite remote areas, through the Sturt desert also. Tyres are amazing as with stock bridgestones always have 1 or two punctures. These tyres are brilliant, give the car a tough look and I couldn't be happier. No punctures perfect. With 235/65 and 17 inch wheels, no mods required and great comfortable ride. My third Subaru ( I gave the 2007 Liberty 3.0 a hard time on similar roads). Love this car, x mode is awesome. Took my wife on some scary steep roads up and down( even I was crapping myself) and it didn't have any problems. Love your video, great music choice. Thanks for posting.

    Any check engine lights after this video or some flooding from the bottom?? That what happened to me anyway. 😏

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  7 років тому

      INSTACRUISING Never had a check engine light. Only the tire sensor light from stitching the wheels around.
      How deep was the water?

    • @INSTACRUISING
      @INSTACRUISING 7 років тому

      bruceyyyyy water wasn't even close close to what you had on this video 😏 Not sure what happened. Some folks from the subaruoutback forum has very similar issue when some time ago they had some flooding in Texas (not today's flood of course).
      Anyway, thank for taking the time to reply and I hope I won't have this problem again.
      I do would like to lift my Subaru just like yours. Was it expensive? What parts did you use?
      Thanks a lot for any info. Once again great video.

      INSTACRUISING Lift is from Anderson design. I just uploaded a how to on how it installs. It's a long but fairly simple process. Maintains factory ride. It was around 600 I think.
      What problems did the dealer say? The evap canister?

    • @INSTACRUISING
      @INSTACRUISING 7 років тому

      bruceyyyyy awesome. I'll check it out. If I won't find the video I'll probably will ask you for the link.
      It was exactly evap canister. Is that normal? Is there any some sort of protection I can put on this canister (I guess it would kinda kill the purpose of it 😎, but something in between)?
      Thanks again for the reply.

    the tyres are bigger than stock right?

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 років тому

      Correct.
      Stock is 225/65R17.
      These are 245/65R17.

    • @7150285
      @7150285 8 років тому

      you mean "wider" but not bigger or taller...since both 65 are the same, same tire aspect ratio

    • @bruceyyyyy
      @bruceyyyyy  8 років тому +1

      +7150285 It's my understanding having a wider tread with the same aspect ratio is still a slightly larger size since the ratio is based on the tread width.

      ah, oh ok I didn't thought of that. That's true though lol. What part of VW was this at? I've been to Coalwood and Welch before, I visited Homer Hickam's hometown.

    • @mizzorian
      @mizzorian 8 років тому

      Yes it is bigger, I just calculated it, you are 1inch bigger than stock (from about 28.5 to 29.5). This means your odometer and speedometer will be off slightly. Can you tell us by how much?

      Napster, G4TV, Kazaa, etc. It's all just commercialization for commercializing sake.
      We had the beginning of something great and the venture capitalists swooped in to "save" the day.
      Now it's all pretty much anything "Web 2.0" banded which in itself is old enough to drive.
      Napster, Kazaa, Game FAQ, something awful, YTMND, eBaums, etc
      We lost the good ones a long time ago. It's all long gone. We're all just folk now.

      I'm not sure on that actually. I was really babying the throttle trying to get the X Mode to clearly activate.
      I'll have to check other footage I have to see if it does not operate when turning.

      Ride quality/ smoothness is the same, but it's ever so slightly longer in the cornering.
