Bit of a shame that it was wasted on Jason since most player would pick to keep it for him since Nick only get it when Jason doesn’t want it. If it was the choice was flat out Nick to keep it or Jason to keep it, than the vote may split.
You can also get this achievement without the stake, by succeeding the QTE at the frag grenade tripwire, and then later in the game when Jason and Nick are resetting the trip wire, as Jason, be FOREBODING and then SERIOUS, this'll plant the affirmation in Nick's mind to fight until his last breath. "You hear me now. If you find yourself alone, you fight like they do. You hit them hard and fast before they even know you're there and then you go back into the dark. That understood, Sergeant?". This quote will echo in Nick's memories as he's been choked to death by the ancient one, after that, Nick will then stab the ancient one in the side of the head with his combat knife, and then steal the ancient one's spear and hide while the ancient one is distracted by the injury, leaving him confused as he reaches for his spear only to find it not there and Nick also missing from view, it then cuts to Jason calling out Nick's name, causing the ancient to turn around to where Jason's flashlight is flashing around. (this is due to the rest of the survivors going back for Nick, aka Eric not ignoring his radio signal, but being delayed from rescuing Nick due to Salim/Jason/whomever bleeding and waking one of the vampires from it's cocoon), This gives Nick the opportunity to come out from the shadows and impale the ancient one in the back with his own spear, saving Nick, killing Kurum/Balathu for good and granting you the achievement.
