  • Due to popular demand I decided to throw this video up at the front of the queue. The search and destroy has been a season stand out and quickly has become my go do "searching pattern". With a flash back, a tag, and a cdc collar you're covering all your bases. Thank you do everyone who asked about this fly and commenting "guy fieri" in the last videos comment section. I hope you have as much success with this pattern as I have.
In this video I am tying on a size #16 Fulling Mill Jig Short matched with a 2.8mm bead. As always happy to answer any questions in the comments below. Thank you again for your continued support.
    Search and Destroy
Hook :FM Short or favorite jig
Bead:Slotted tungsten copper size to match.
Thread: Semper fli nano silk 18/0 black or UTC 70 black
Tail: 6 or w/e looks good Coq de Leon fibers
    Rib:UTC Sculpin olive wire (brassie)
Flash back: opal mirage tinsel (m)
Body: 4 muskrat grey pheasant tail fibers
Tag: 2 to 4 strands of glo brite floss shade 5 (I use 2 in this video)
Collar 1: Slate Grey or Dun CDC in a loop
    Collar 2: squirrel dub

That's a good looking fly. Funny how fish can be so choosy and one tiny thing makes a difference.
Have a small lake at my cabin where I pretend I'm a great fisherman. One day I was throwing a royal wolf and a royal coachman. They look almost identical except for the wing material. One of them caught a fish almost every cast and the other one hardly got a look. Sorry but all you guys will have to try both.🤗

Nice fly, similar to one I tie. I love CDC but have always tied the feather in by the tip and wrapped rather than fussing with a dubbing loop. Faster, simpler and just as durable in my experience.

Great video - thank you. I will be tossing one this weekend as it looks like a winner. I forecast at least a level 178 of awesomeness with the Opal Flash, Shade 5 tag, CDC, and squirrel combination. I chuckled when you said to guard these and resist handing them out; my buddies are thieving fly box raiders so I may have to hide these as they pilfered my Mid Tag flies last trip. Keep the fly tying videos coming - the detail of your step by step process is appreciated.

Brilliant tutorial, I do fishing videos and tie my own flies. But have never done a fly tying video. I think when someone like your self who do this so brilliantly, why would I bother. I do have a pattern very similar and it has caught me a lot of fish. I do like the look of your pattern and will get on it asap. I have subscribed so that I don't miss anything. Take care and thanks so much. Shaun.

Awesome fly. I’m going to try a few of these soon. Do you ever tie it with a little orange hot spot at the bead?

    • @AboutTrout
      @AboutTrout  4 роки тому +4

I haven’t really messed with a hot spot but let me know how it does for you . My buddy ties these with a pink bead and does well . I like having the pop of the tag for a trigger point but I’m sure a hot spot would be a great edition .
