i feel bad for the second trumpet soloist, i used to always beat myself up for messing up but it only matters to the people that know jazz, knowing he took that risk to even wanna solo is an achievement of itself, props to him for that risk, i respect it

Damn I hope the last trumpet soloist did not beat himself up too hard after that performance. I know from experience how awful it feels at the moment and after to not perform at your best during high pressure situations like competitions.
@Hugh Jaynis if I could guess, just think he was way too tense resulting in the (imo) pinched tone that he has and the shortened notes. And the last 5/6 measures he must have gotten flustered or something and missed his cue and then tried to eek out that last note but gave up.
What school did you go to? Did you play in the jazz band? Have you ever performed at Essentially Ellington? My guess is probably not since you clearly don’t know talent when you see it.
He has good language and tone it was obvious he's just chopped after a few charts towards the end of their set, he tried to go for the F but got capped out it happens to everyone
That last trumpet solo. He really tried his best. Good for him
all 3 trombones look like they're making prayers at 0:35 before their soli
I would too lmao
I hope they were so happy when they saw they got an outstanding award for that part

Very impressive! Hard for even pros to play this let alone high school students! BRAVO
I didn't know James Earl Jones was a jazz conductor now!

That's an incredibly difficult part to play. Why write a nasty comment like this?
Then you try to play it.
