  • How to work twisted rib, a variation on the classic 1x1 rib often used in edgings. This tutorial shows twisted knit and purl stitches, how they differ from regular stitches, and how to work twisted rib both flat and in the round. These stitches are commonly abbreviated to k1tbl and p1tbl (TBL = through back loop).

    I've been doing all my knit stiches as twisted knit stiches all these years????!!!! I picked up knitting as a hobby again recently, so I bought a book on learning to knit to revisit all the info and go about my re-learning practice in order. I kept thinking that my samples were not matching the example pictures exactly, I figured it was tension or the yarn I was using. Imagine my confusion when I got to the instructions of twisted ribbings saying "knit through the back loop" I was all "but... I'm already doing that???!" So here I am looking at your wonderful tutorial realizing I've been actually doing the knit stich wrong all these years 😂😳
    Time to learn the actual knit stitch 😆🤓

      You'd be amazed how many people do exactly this! Fear not, you are not alone 😅 I think people assume as long as a needle goes through a loop, it doesn't matter, when in actual fact it makes quite a big difference! You'll probably find that your fabric lies flatter, doesn't warp, looks neater and looks more like the photos now 😂

      @@lilykatemakes8358 OMG, now I'm even more enthusiastic about learning the right way, looking forward to having everything be flatter, warp less and be neater 💖💖💖 I'll even keep the "wrong" practice to be able to compare and to have a reminder on how to knit properly 🤗

    Thank you for this explanation. I am making a sweater using twisted rib on circular needles but my swatch is knitted flat. Couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong until I saw your video.

    Is it weird that what you call a twisted knit stitch is what I call my regular knit stitch? I find it easier to knit like this than to twist my wrist and knit in what you call normally 😅?.

    Tks so much. How can you do to make it look identical on both sides?

    • @lilykatemakes8358
      @lilykatemakes8358  2 роки тому +3

      You'd need to twist every single stitch, both knits and purls on both sides :)

    When you I've looked at tutorials for twisted rib most of them tell you to KTBL and PTBL with each row. Not explaining as you have done that you alternate each time. I am still so confused!

    • @lilykatemakes8358
      @lilykatemakes8358  2 роки тому +4

      It depends whether you're working in the round or flat! If you're working in the round, you only need twisted knit stitches, and need to KTBL on every round. If you're working flat, you need to alternate twisted knit stitches on 1 row then twisted purls on the following row to achieve the same result :)

      Agreed, unless you fold up the brim. Then, you might want it to look the same, both inside and outside.
