So glad you shared this. It is true that the difficulties of going to a big canvas are unique and the only way to know is to do it. This is what scares me about going big - that what I can create on a smaller scale won’t translate larger. Nothing is a fail - all of it is a learning curve! ❤❤❤ can’t wait to see the final piece next week.

That's the hardest part of painting a huge canvas - All the preparation and thought and time to finally get there, then it fails. We feel as we failed, but we must keep going! I can't wait to see the next video. Thank you for sharing this with us I think we all learn and grow from these times and it also helps us understand even our biggest mentors fail as well! Looking forward :)

Hello Sara, I am so glad you shared this as well. I feel like there are a lot of viewers of this technique (acrylic pouring) that are under the impression that if an artists is skilled enough to share their videos, that they get the perfect out come every time. I have been pouring for about 6 years and I know that this is simply not true. So I commend you on your bravery in sharing this.
That being said, I started on large canvasses as a beginner and rarely do anything smaller than 16x16. Especially without a blow dryer. I've never mastered the art of laying down paint and then tilting it to my satisfaction. In my opinion it's one of the hardest techniques there is. So I envy your talent. One thing I might suggest or that I noticed is that perhaps you might want to go a little thicker with your paints. I say this because I almost always do Dutch pours and they always require a really thin paint. Anytime Ive tried to tilt rather than blow, the mess it makes reminds me every time, that I need a thicker paint for more control. Your colors were stunning and I could see where you were going. I just think that because of the thinness, it just got away from you. Too hard to control. What do you think happened? Thank you for allowing me to see your creations. So inspiring.
    Dedra. 😉

I admire your work so much, and to see you not get one how you want it made me feel better, i dont know the answer with such a big canvas, but me personally i just stand and look at mine and say oh dear what went wrong, i dont do big ones, im talking about small ones, and for a while in my trying to learn i threw away canvases as i did not know you could scrap them off, i cant wait to see how you go with that monster, and Happy New Year.

I can't really express how much I appreciate this video, your knowledge, and yes, your failure. I've been thinking about a pearl pour as a background for a huge tree of life sculpture I created. I've been putting it off because, honestly, I didn't know how to be able to begin on a large canvas. I should clarify, a large canvas for me😊... yours is humongous😁! The effects you were getting on the smaller canvas were stupendous and very interesting! I definitely will be doing many test pieces with your recipe and techniques. I think it would be a perfect match for my intention. I'm just so grateful for your work and knowledge because it saves me so much money, time, and grief. I'll have plenty of the later just getting my test pieces to come out, looking even half of what I see in my mind. I also want to thank you for helping me on my journey of pearl pours because when I use your knowledge, I always come out with something good... even if it doesn't look like anything that I intended 😋. All your videos are a gift to me. I've learned so much from you. I wish I could support you more. But I do shop your Amazon link. I hope this year brings you many blessings and so much joy! I can't believe how big your girl is getting! What a joy right there, watching her grow into a young lady... and your twins, too! And, what an awesome mom and example you are for them! I can't wait to see how you worked out your massive painting... it's very exciting! 😊✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️

Thanks for sharing the difficulties you experienced with this large canvas. I have never attempted a pearl pour on anything larger than a 18×24 so this is helpful for someone like myself. Maybe if you try something like winterstromart does when she does a concentrated section closer together and then stretch it out, maybe that would help get less mixed up colors and still be able to achieve negative space. I don't know, just a thought 🙂

I did a large format painting on a wood platform that my dad built for me a few years ago. I found it very difficult to manage. The paint didnt go as far as i needed it to so all of the definition was over stretched and wonky. I had wished at the time that i had mixed more paint a bit thicker and poured smaller sections...maybe...it was a lot of paint and ive never tried to do it over. I just let it dry. Thanks for sharing your experience. Id love to see how the good one turned out. Maybe I'll try again.

Thank you Sara for sharing this. I've only known one other UA-cam artist that actually scraped a canvas on camera and explained why. These scenarios are very helpful. I look forward to seeing the successful outcome. It is so frustrating when you take the time to not only mix but calculate how much paint per color... It can be exhausting especially when you aren't sure if it's going to work. Happy New Year. 🥰

I love that test canvas, the end result is beautiful!
I can do ok with smaller canvases, but when I've tried to go a bit bigger (not as big as that one!) I always have issues with the paint moving while let to dry and typically having a blurry mess somewhere near the center the next day. I always tell myself to make sure I tilt as much paint as possible out of the canvas but I'm still trying to get something as nice as what I can get with a smaller canvas. I've thought of trying with my paints just a bit thicker, that'll likely give me less pearls but I'd like to see how it looks like and if it helps with the paint moving less.
Thank you for sharing also when it doesn't go as planned, it helps me feeling a bit less frustrated when it happens and I'm sure we can all learn too. 💜

I totally understand! Pooling is an issue with fluid art often times. One thing I can suggest is to spray the top and bottom of the canvas in advance with water to make sure that it is nice and tight.

You can see where it's about to go wrong right when all the paint starts to run and pool toward the center. Knowing how thin paint loves to mix, my thought is to add and stretch colors one at a time where you want them. I know though that this may wreck some beautiful pearls. Bringing in the memory of how you add and subtract color and details, it seems logical that you'd just scale that part up. Anxious to see how you end up achieving your vision.
