Love your reactions of IU. That being said it is always concerning to me when a person, any person who is reacting to and commenting on music, makes a blanket statement about a song after one listen of even 2 or 3 listens. I am quite a bit older than you and I can't tell how many times a song that did not connect with me or that I didn't care for after a first listen ended up being one of my favorites songs on the album or by that artist. I have been an IU fan since 2020 after watching My Mister. There has not been a song that I have hear her sing that I didn't like. It was simply amazing, in my almost 70 years I have never experienced this. But then I watched the Shopper MV the day it was released. I could only watch it once because I had an appointment I had to get to. But as I left the house I was saying to myself "well it had to happen sooner or later." For some reason the song didn't connect with me at all, even her voice could not over come my negative feelings. I was troubled by this and had I been asked at that time I might have said exactly what you said about it. Later that day a reaction by a voice coach who I really also enjoy had posted a reaction to Shopper. So I was interested in her reaction, plus she always points out many of the technical and techniques involved in singing whichbis educational for me. On the this my 2nd listen the song sounded better to me. It was still at the bottom of the then 3 newly released songs by IU. Then I listen to it again from still yet another reactor who I enjoy and trust. With each listen the song was growing on me. And I can honestly say now that I absolutely love the song. Why I felt the way I felt at the 1st listen and why it went over like a lead balloon I can't tell you. Now I can't even believe that I ever didn't like the song. When I watched your reaction and your ending comments I was disappointed. Not that you voiced your opinion that the song wasn't your cup of tea, but that you stated it would not be a song that you would listen again. I thought to myself that I would love to see a follow up reaction after you had time to listen to the song over a period of time. Your reaction to her live clip is in my opinion a far truer reaction to the song. I know that you believe your very positive reaction to the concert clip is because it's a concert clip. But it is exactly the same song, same lyrics, same melody etc. The back drop is different. So maybe it was something about the MV that colored the way you heard the song. Who knows but it is the same song. I would just caution against making broad judgments of a song based on one listen. I fact I would suggest any new release by any artist where you for whatever reason don't care for a song or don't think it will be one you will listen too very much, that you in fact give it a regular rotation in your play list for a number of weeks before making a final decision. On the song. I personally would love to watch sure a follow up reaction to those songs and see which ones if any you have changed you mind on after a period of time. Speaking from experience there arexa number of songs which I now consider some of my all-time favorites. And I might have never given then the chance to earn their spot in my heart, had it not been for vinyl albums, 8 tracks and cassette tapes where you turned then on and just listened to the e tire thing. My music life would have been much poorer.
