- Most often, a trunk bag is the first bag purchased by many cyclists, but for me, it has been the last. I've been waiting for what I thought was the right bag to fill the niche that I'm looking for, and I believe the Arkel Tailrider fits that perfectly. I've done a quick review today of why I like it so I hope this is helpful to those cyclists out there!

Amazing products!
Fantastic review!
Thanks so much!
I’ve had this same bag for a few years now. Mine is the red one. It’s my favorite trunk bag for all the reasons you’re showing. When not in use on the bike it makes a great bug-out bag. Thanks for great review.
Hey edge! Yeah man I love that trunk bag so far, and yes, it would make a great little bug-out bag!
Ok.... I got the bag, I love the bag. The thing I can't figure out is the two plastic rings on web loops located at the very back of the bag, halfway up (????)
SOMEBODY had something in mind here....What was it ? I wonder
Here I am answering my own question!!! I got rid of the top carry handle (found the straps that go through it always get in the way of closing the side pocket...it was hard to loosen and tighten the two straps on top because they go through that handle thing... it just got annoying) I ran a loop of nice rope around the two plastic rings and now I carry the bag vertically...and it actually carries better that way... it makes operating the two cross straps on top way easier/quicker with that top carry handle gone. I re-used the neoprene tube from the original handle on the loop of rope. Works well.
Thanks for the video. I just received my yellow TailRider directly from Arkel, less their 15% Black Friday discount. I'll be mounting it on a Blackburn front rack and plan to mount it backwards so that the narrow end points forwarrd. It's a really nice looking and well made bag, and the bellows feature gives you a lot more space compared to other models I looked at (including the Lone Peak Swayback which is a little cheaper). Customer service from Arkel in Canada was just outstanding, it was a pleasure doing business with them. I'll be using the bag every day on my commuter bike, rain or shine.
Awesome. If you perhaps ever make a video of that setup, I’d love to see it so please drop me a line sometime with the link.
I am considering this bag for exactly what you described. Is there still enough room to mount a handle bar bag on top?
Yes. You can adjust the bag forward and backwards on the front rack. depending on the size of your handlebar bag you should be able to make it fit. I ended up fixing a thin piece of plywood to the top of the Burnham front rack and setting the arkel bag on that as I was commuting even in foul weather and it kept mud thrown up by the front wheel off the bottom of the bag. I did not use a handlebar bag with my set up as I had the old school brake levers that permit braking from the top of the drop down bars and a handle bar bag would've gotten in the way. I'll try to find a pic.
@@tommarten1962 excellent information, thank you.
Nice bag!! Love the design and comparability with all racks... Cool integrated rain sack 👍👍
It has really fit all the things I was looking for. I think it is a keeper!
I would add that the Tailrider does NOT fit all racks. I have found that the bag will flop around with racks narrower than 4 inches or so. I gave up using my Tailrider on my Tubus Vega rack for this reason, and instead found a nice, 6" wide NOS Jandd rack that fits the Tailrider beautifully. Another more economical rack option for the Tailrider is the Planet Bike ECO Rack (if you don't plan on using heavy panniers with the rack).
I’m torn between this and the Lone Peak Swayback. I’m leaning towards this Arkel for the expandability, YKK zipper, and internal organization. Although I like the aesthetics of the Lone Peak better.
I’ve been very happy with this so far.
Awesome! I love review videos. :) I started doing them awhile ago with cooking products. haha, and the little extra amazon affiliate income helps for extra pocket change. :)
OK....for the 64,000 dollar question.....
I got one, I love it....perfect bag (use on an electric bike and a second battery fits in there)
But, for the life of me, I can't figure out what the two plastic rings at the very back of it are meant for???? SOMEBODY must have thought this was a great idea..... What was it? I haven't figured it out and it's bugging me....;)
They are for the optional shoulder strap which isn't included.
@@BradBeaird At first that didn't sound right to shoulder strap carry a bag vertically....but then horizontally would not work with this bag. Vertically, it puts all the zippers and the main opening flap at the top so it all makes sense to me now....thanks...just one more thing Arkel thought about and included!...
I'm not surprised they did not include the shoulder strap....most people have an assortment from other bags they bought in the past and never used the shoulder strap for!
awesome video no dislikes!
Thanks! Still love the bag
Je viens de les recevoir superbe produit chère ma quand on veut la qualité 👍Top.. .. Top.. Top..
Glad it has worked well for you!
So here's what confuses me. This bag which cost just over a hundred bucks comes with a rain cover, yet their more expensive panniers which cost double or triple do not. Does that make any sense?
Yeah no idea why they just don’t make everything waterproof. Does anyone not want their cycling bags waterproof? Unless perhaps it costs more?
Really useful video. I have a Tubus Evo rack, which slightly tapers, do you think the Trail Bag would fit ok?
Tall Dark Moody I think it would work just fine.
@@BradBeaird See my comment above.
How noisy is the bottom, currently I have an old Topeak trunk bag on a standard rack. When I ride over rough areas the hard bottom of the Topeak makes a lot of noise.
On my rack no noise at all. With the adjustable Velcro straps you can pull it tight so it doesn’t move at all.
Après plusieurs mois de recul... Sur ce produit. Sacoche Pilican... Et porte bagage adapté au tige carbone..
Vraiment très content des produits..
Ils sont d'une légèreté incroyable.. Nous avons monté plusieurs cols avec.. Mont Ventoux.. col des Abeilles.. Georges de la Nesque ect.. On finit même parles oublier
Je recommande ces produits.. Cher oui mais quand on veut la qualité.. On m'est le prix 🏆
Totally agree it is worth the cost and has been a real performer for me as well!
