  • In the Alaskan wilderness, 3 men take shelter in a cabin from a blizzard. Supplies are low and it's doubtful they'll make it through winter. At least it's doubtful that they'll ALL make it through the winter, but maybe the blizzard will stop and the snow melt in time for them to escape from the cabin and the cold Alaskan wilderness...
Operation Insomnia brings you an Alaskan Horror Story from Reddit's Nosleep, entitled “Winter, 1927. Yukon”.

In colder regions where snow is abundant, doors are usually built to swing inwards making a mess for sure but at least you can open the door

Dude, I was thinking about that a few days ago. I live in a really snow heavy area, starting usually in October, our winters are long and usually heavy in snowfall. I've been trapped in a house you couldn't escape do to the snow being so deep in front. Making the doors swing inward is what we do on our cabins alot. One door on my house opens inward too.

In 1927, no one used the term "book it" to say that they hurried away. Still, great narration.

    • @OperationInsomnia

True, I didn't catch that one! It's funny you mention the changes is the way we talk. A friend of mine is getting ready to shoot an indie movie based on a screenplay his Grandad wrote in the 50s and he was telling me earlier today he's having to change a fair bit of the script. It's so easy to forget that kind of stuff when you're writing. Glad you enjoyed the narration!

Why wouldn't he get the supply? It's not like being frozen would hurt them. And so they buddy froze to death right by the cabin? That just doesn't make sense.

Scurvy, rickets, starvation, beriberi, folate deficiency all can make you a bit mad!
Medical literature bears out that vitamin deficiencies can cause insanity, which is another reason why starving to death can make you insane and make poor decisions.

Post Narration: I was part way through Kholer when I heard the sound of a plane. I looked out and saw a low flying RCMP seaplane. They apparently saw me too and landed nearby. Before I knew it I was being flown to White Horse with two Mounties guarding me with rifles. Afterwards they put my in a cell and had doctors look me over. It took a while for the Mounties to declare me no longer harmful and the doctors to say I was mentally sound. they put me on a train to Skagway where I took a ship back to the states. When we finally docked in Seattle, my hometown, I didn't stay very long. As soon as I got enough money together, I left for sunny California, settling down in Los Angeles, where it NEVER snows. I managed to get a steady job, got married and had five kids. I still have nightmares though of my friends skulls staring at me with those sinister grins, though the pills manage to keep the frequency of them to a minimum.
