Zenith makes some really beautiful pieces, i wasn't familiar with their dive watches but glad to see it's up to their usual standard too, very informative episode!
Why did Zenith stop making grand-complicated watches? When they were making 3d tourbilions, fuzee chains and etc, they showed that they were sophisticated watch makers. Like JLC for example. Now they only exploit El-primero in different variations. I love Zenith and i have two zenith watches, so i’m sad that they changed their course.
My guess is that those complications are for a higher end market, and with the global economy not being so optimistic, zenith need to secure their profit in the common market until the timing is right for the higher end watches to reappear.
Zenith just goes through too many CEO changes, so the brand is all over the place and completely changes its design language every new CEO. Very sad to see one of my favourite brands languish with all the mixed messaging. And that new pilot line from last year... what a complete fail. All they had to do was make the Montre d'aeronef smaller and thinner and they would have had a hit.
I'm happy that Zenith is back to producing a nice diving watch like in the glorious days of its Zenith Sub-Sea 1000m 😀
