  • The Jamaica Nuclear Engineering Pilot Bootcamp is an innovative program that introduces students to the world of nuclear engineering, a field unavailable for study in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean. This five-day adventure included lectures, daily exercises, challenges, and a tour of the SLOWPOKE-2 nuclear reactor at the University of the West Indies. Participants also worked on projects and presentations to showcase their skills.
    The boot camp featured guest lecturers from esteemed organizations including Massachusetts Institute of Technology , University of Florida, Texas State University, Colorado School of Mines, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Breakthrough Institute, Clean Air Task Force, Empowering Garrison Girls Jamaica, International Centre for Environmental and Nuclear Sciences (ICENS), and Generation Atomic.
    The boot camp aimed to inspire curiosity and understanding of nuclear science and engineering's global impact. It highlighted the significance of nuclear energy in replacing fossil fuels and explored the synergy between nuclear and renewable energy sources for carbon neutrality and energy independence. Participants joined this exciting journey to become agents of change in addressing the climate crisis and securing a sustainable future through nuclear science, energy, and technology.
