Came across your channel a couple of days ago. The moment I saw you drill a hole in a boat in the middle of the ocean alone I knew this would be a great channel!🤣 loving the vids keep it up
Have been guiding and leading expeditions in Svalbard for 17 years. Sailing up to a glacier like that is playing Russian Roulette with the lives of everybody onboard. Please do not do it again. Stay safe.
They can do what they want, how arrogant to tell them what to do. If they die it is none of your business.
@@peppersanches412 , ok Pepper, go for it, don’t worry about the ice moving, you’ll be fine.
@@peppersanches412 generally rescuers have to then risk their lives to try to save people that do foolish things.
You're easily my new favorite content creator Sam. I've been wanting to be out on open water so badly these past few months. Sailing just seems so peaceful.
Living in the Middle of the US it's difficult but watching you really helps with the itch and desire! Also motivates me to do it someday. Thanks for such good content! Wish you safe and enjoyable travels!
@@wyrdo1501 I'm in Illinois haha I would like to get out on Lake Michigan or Superior for a start.
@@justanotherdude32 ah ok, try being in Arkansas and into sailing lol the great lakes would be pretty cool. you heard of the great loop? i live on the Arkansas river and thats my first goal.

Lived here for 11 years. Never even considered going that close to a glacier front. Darwin have cleaned up a few times on people doing that already and a few more escaped on sheer luck. It's the same ice on the icebergs, safer to chop some chunks from them.
Thanks for taking us along with you Sam. It's not much but I sure hope this helps🤙
What an awesome adventure. Thanks for sharing.
Getting close to that ice is terrifying!
Irresponsible? Lol. Wtf?! Keep up the great work. By saying what you did is irresponsible, makes them irresponsible. Us responsible people appreciate your work. Be safe!!
Oof that was a silly move. He could've gone in the dinghy, only risking himself for his G&T. We get this sort of thing all over Norway and sometimes we have to mop up what's left of the tourists and wring them into a bucket.
You my inspiration sam! I can’t wait to buy my first sailboat, but must wait if I want a bigger one with a bathroom.
Fabulous videos. Thank you for sharing.

Best channel on UA-cam! Awesome video Sam, you are very privileged to get that opportunity! Should have thrown rocks at the Lenin Statue🤣🤣🤣
Great video Sam. It felt like we were there 😄
I use that exact same heater core "heat exchanger" in my work truck for Wisconsin winters. Works great to heat a 10ft uninsulated box even when the temps are below 0 F

Epic Sam absolutely epic!
Loved the old abandon Russian coal mine, and the city, very cool.
Awesome video!
Drillin' holes in a pricey boat. Sweet!
Hope you have fun!
The music room looked terrific. Was there music playing somewhere in a building, thought maybe the bus had something habbening? Well, you mariners definitely showed us an amazing adventure! Yummy. 😋

Very good video!
I wish I could get over fear because, I hold myself back.
That is so scary when you pulled right up to the wall!
Thanks again great videos. From my hill top in. Sc
Great video. Svalbard is great for adventures, but going that close to the glacier is just stupid. Like trying to pet polar bears stupid. Stay safe and keep up making great content!
Polar bears love to be pet you just have to show the proper confidence when dealing with them.
Yolo, doing anything is stupid. Sit in a safe chair beside a heater. Thats sensible.
yep, turned me right off (bit like that dangerous Bahamas passage).
Funny also, that all of us vicarious Covid shutdown sailors have been to Svalbard at least twice (1st Uma, but actually preferred Alluring Arctic).
@@SpicyTrifongo the best way is with camouflage. You can't exactly hide from them, as their eyesight is insanely good..so you go incognito, preferably in a baby seal costume, as seals are not uncommon where there are polar bears.
great video thanks Sam - i feel like you the boat was made an example of on the mishap over the bird sanctuary. I'm not that experienced a sailor but i wonder if somehow it could not get added to chart so others don't go the same way?
It was marked on the chart - even on the screen capture shown here - and the chart says restricted area, more information from the government of svalbard. That should give a hint. Svalbard is very fragile environment and there are quite a lot of restrictions for tourist activities.
FANTASTIC !!!
People freaking out about the risk of going up to an ice wall don't seem to realize they are talking to the man who climbs into a homemade block of swiss cheese and solo sails it across the ocean and jumps off cliffs with a condor man get up.
Very cool journey
thanks for taking us with you :)🧊
It's great how much stuff still remains in that abandoned town. If everyone who visited took something, it would not be the unique time capsule it is.
Thanks!
This video is like a warning of things not to do while sailing.
Life is, the interesting stuff usually is. The dividing line of course of action is the freedom.
@@braithmiller The issue comes when, say, he gets up to the iceberg and a piece falls off and takes out 3/4 of the bow. Now a group of people have to come out and try to rescue another group right next to an iceberg. Needlessly having to put their lives at extra risk just to put some ice in a drink. It's selfish. I dont hate Sam or the rest for doing this or anything. He should do better and think about consequences to his actions though. The burden of those consequences dont always lie just on ones self.
@@smokeymchaggis73 not disagreeing, same could be said for all of boating. I would not do it. If a real shear happens nobody to save.
Obrigado!
That's the type of place bald and bankrupt would be lurking

yeh that iceberg you sat on possibly calved off that wall of ice you went right up to, you wouldn't want that to fall on you.
Wow, thanks .
Awesome!

Howzit Sam, been wondering about sailing with a tiller vs a wheel. Long time ago I spent many days on the tiller of a 34 Lello - fast forward to 2022 and many a sailing UA-cam channel boat I see people spinning wheels in search of direction. Good winds to you and friends.

Oh my the abandoned town was baffling all those Instruments and things left behind ... the Machinery the boats, everything... why...???
Hey , Sam. Bill Tillman wrote about his voyages on Mischief and Sea Breeze. Worth a look if you haven't read them. Carry on.
Death wish near that ice wall. They were falling like crazy last week at Jökulsárlón.
I would be scared to be near the glacier because of those videos online of them falling off and making huge splashes.
In all seriousness never ever do this, stopping within a mile of a glacier is very dangerous. And walking on an iceberg is damn near suicidal even if you’re tied off (or not Sam!!?!)
Ice for the Gin Tonic...Classic!!!
Dont go that close to i ice wall thats insane !!
So if they were in a smaller boat with no electronics, he wouldn't have been arrested for getting too close to a rock. What an abuse of a law IMO
Blatant abuse of the safety system for revenue and they aren't even that accurate, if they were, nobody would ever get lost, lol.
Its a natural reserve, they got too close to birds nests im sure.
There are zones that are forbidden to enter.
@@j.aavits But there’s no problem if your boat is less than 40 feet. 41 feet you get fined.
@S J , it is probably most important to keep cruise ships and trawlers so far from the bird colonies that they do not scare the parents off their nest during nesting season. Chicks will not survive for long without protection.
Nice, Is that the howling fjord? How'd you get to the borean tundra?

Hello , so did you make it up to the land in the far north ?
The bad seamanship and risk evaluation shown when you went right under the glacier is really disapointing. Collapses isn't as rare as folks might think. It even came on national news (NRK).
I watch all of Sam's Ads.
That looks like a nice broat!
Brilliant ,brilliant video Sam ! We take risks getting out of bed in the morning, thats what life is all about ! Fantastic to be able to be there with you, thanks !

Holy shit. As someone who has spent a bit of time near glaciers in the water. Be it in a vessel or even a kayak. Getting that close is such a stupid idea.
Sam, What's beyond the ice supposedly there's more land beyond miles of ice somewhere that we haven't been before
