Lovely video as always! I recently learned my name is a bit of special case. My name is Elijah, which has two translations. The one that "looks" most similar, Éilias, is only used when in reference to the Prophet. Regular people like me would be called Oillil. I find this especially fascinating being that I'm trans and intentionally chose the name Elijah after the Biblical figure

According to the link you provided in your article my name is FIONNGHUALA, meaning fair shoulder. It is shortened to NUALA, but I think I like the original version better. I'm going to have to listen to how it's pronounced several times so that I can say it correctly to honor my Irish ancestors.

if you struggle with the phonetics, as many non Irish people do when they try even an Irish accent, i highly recommend irish linguistics. not sure if youre Irish (as in living in ireland), but i find even though I’ve an irish accent, it doesnt mean i can relate it to the irish alphabet that names n irish use! thats such a gorgeous name also, it’s very Irish but still unique. My mam and her mam chose English names for us bc of stigmas in older times, and I always tell her she shouldntve! Megan is cute ill say, but id love to have a name in my grandparents first language :( sucks what the irish language went thru, especially in dublin. its very humbling to study our history i think!

Hi Lora, my comment isn't relevant to your video so apologies - just clicked on your most recent. Been pondering over something I asked you a few years back for a long time now - I remember asking on one of your Q&A things if you thought Ireland and Scotland share any kinship, and I attempted to relate the struggles of the Highland clearances to Irish colonisation. After studying Irish history (partly academic, mosty personal interest) I understand now how inappropriate and ignorant that was, considering the role that Scotland has played in Irish colonisation. Not sure if you remember, but its an apology I've been meaning make for a while. So I'm sorry for asking you that, it wasn't fair comparison to make. I'm still keeping up with you too, thanks for all that you do.
