Great question! The "dots" around the edges of the notes are actually holes. Some pans have them while some don't and you mostly see them on tenor pans. The holes in my opinion give you a more resonant sound though there's a story that says craftsmen originally included these holes so that water could drain out of their steelpans if they got caught in the rain. Pans with holes in them are called "bore" pans and was invented by Denzil “Dimes” Fernandez in the 1980s.
Hi! The cost of one like mine can be around TTD$6000 for the Steelpan only (stand and case may be sold separately). Of course there are cheaper options (around TTD$3000) and more expensive options. There are also packages which can be around TTD$8000 (Steelpan, stand, case, mallets). If you’re interested in purchasing send me an email and I can put you on to some excellent pan builders! They can also advise your further on which may be best suited for you.🙏🏽
