Douglas Fairbanks a very charming and generous fellow who lent his ideas and information in a documentary film that I co-produced and directed about Marlene Dietrich which was shown in Germany. I am so glad to have my work attached to such a distinguished actor and producer.
You know he took a lot of secrets to the grave with him. Including those about joan. He was there through the entire golden age of hollywood, more or less. He knew joan was a loose goose, but he was 19 and needed to , well you know. What a gentlemen though. They have not made them like him for quite a while. Long live old Hollywood and long live the greatest generation!
@@jimrick6632 I think he looks awesome and memory is excellent for 91....and far better than the American President coming in for 2021" president to be has either dementia or the starting of Alzheimer's... propping him up with the most powerful expensive drugs they can"....good luck with that!
Hmmm. I feel sorry for poor Doug being subjected to an interviewer who was well - intended, Im sure, but clearly doesnt know her film history or much about the Depression. I sort of know what she was hinting at, but her questions were poorly developed. Indeed, LB Mayer / MGM was a rather Republican Conservative and even Libertarian studio in its ideological politics. This Right of centre ideology was reflected in the kinds of films MGM produced and the ideological messages they promulgated. Whereas, Warner Brothers was more Liberal Democrat and Proletarian in their film subjects and the kinds of working class Stars (Cagney, Bogart, Muni) they promoted. All studios still shied away from subjects too far Left . Yet, Im so glad Fairbanks consented to giving interviews in later years and leaving something of a legacy. He's lucid / enthusiastic when he speaks about the People with whom he worked and loved. His affection for Katharine Hepburn and Leslie Howard comes through. He would prefer not to talk about Joan Crawford..
@Just think what are you talking about...? It's not even witty....Personally, I feel we must give thanks to the many anti-racist, feminist and Liberal political activists who have worked so hard to dismantle the White and Male conservative status quo of Hollywood....that we have a bit more / relative inclusion and opportunity before and behind the camera, that Other groups' histories and social experiences are being told and not from the ridiculous perspectives of Andy Hardy & Family. Fairbanks comes from an era where filmmaking and just about everything was Euro White - centred and privileged and no one questioned that. The interviewer just did an inadequate job in her formulating her questions. It seems like she didnt get around to reading Fairbanks' biography Salad Days (88).
@Just think You have completely switched gears and made a False Analogy here. How did we get from talking about Fairbanks and Hollywood to taking about Haitians and illegal border crossings....? Im totally aware that liberals can sometimes be inconsistent, misguided and even contradictory. But dont think Conservatives are any more sincere or consistent.
Why do reporters bother asking about their political views? They are actors NOT learned in government policies!!! Yet they use them as vocal mouth pieces for their agenda! It’s ridiculous
I can here him ok but the interviewer sound like she is in the next room doing the dishes and shouting at him - she doesnt have a good interview voice at all and sounds very shouty - maybe thats why she is speaking from the next room - her massive loud mouth is too much for the microphone - its really a shame she ruined this as he is an interesting character - might be an idea to mention who she is so people can avoid her work in future
I watched Mr Fairbanks give 2 twenty minute interviews on Australian T.V. back in the 70s.The interviewer had him talking about his career and his past as if it were a chat between 2 friends. So honest, forthcoming and lucid it was a delightful learning experience. If only I had known earlier about the appearance I would have been in the studio.
Silly liberal interviewer stuck on trying to find a way to blame Republicans . It’s fine to discuss politics but how about more time on the old movie studios and his life. The interviewer needs to take a course on economics

Any decent person would be honoured to know such an interesting eloquent fellow. I guess anybody who knew him would’ve considered him, a great pal.
I met him in 1990 at a showing of Whitering Heights. Very nice and articulate man. I still have his autograph
I had met Mr. Fairbanks around 1990 - he was such a charming man.
Have you seen the Dame Edna interview with him, he is such a sport and really with a delightful humour....com/watch?v=Bib0_4uVab4
NO! I have never seen it! I would like to - is it on here?
Jake Drew copy in what I wrote; you add www.UA-cam. :-)
Got it! Thanks
I'm almost 62' and yet as a youth I loved his old movies, he was simply charming..and Gallant...

This was the interview that I did for The Great Depression. I was the producer and director of episode #4 We Have A Plan

Very brave to admit to this.I trust you found something you could be good at.!!!
This interviewer is a NINCOMPOOP but Mr. Fairbanks is a joy to listen to
He clearly says he doesnt want his last comments made public yet here they are. The interview tactics here are disgusting.
Wow...not right... I wonder why his family didn't sue this woman...
@@janlovesmany6058 She's a douche bag.
Agreed
any interviews here on YT where Mr. Fairbanks talks about Marlene Dietrich?

My favorite is RKO!!
These interviews were not meant for the viewer to hear the interviewer.
Es el civil que más condecoraciones ha recibido del gobierno estadounidense. Y de algunos países europeos.

WHEN WAS THIS DONE ORIGINALLY DONE????????????????
I think it says 92'.
I am disappointed in this interview-I thought it was about working and living during the Depression.
