    Their is an adjustment screw that allows you to turn the cutting head 90' which would allow you to do that corrugated material.

    I just bought one of these and was going to try it at work today (metal roofing contractor), would like to use for cutting out circular vent stack protrusions. Looks like a grinder may have been an easier option for you cutting out that vent for the crawl space. Enjoyed watching your dog livin it up!

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  4 роки тому

      My dog is crazy and very entertaining. A grinder would have worked better for me for sure. The nibbler would work well to cut out those vent stack openings.

    • @nothingmuch2023
      @nothingmuch2023 Рік тому

      The angle grinder gets too hot and melts the protective covering of some sheet metal, like aluminum. That's why the nibbler is preferred, else around the edge you cut with an angle grinder starts to rust, and (at least in some countries), the warranty is void of you use cut it with improper tools...

  • @josephmorgan8370
    @josephmorgan8370 4 роки тому +2

    You can turn the head and drill.
    You can also make an angle grinder attachment that will allow steeper approach/departure angles. I use a router speed control to reduce speed and check the grease in the head pretty regularly since the speed is still above what is recommended by manufacturer. But, like any alterations to a product, your warranty is void. But we are talking about a $30 tool I have gotten a lot of use from.

    People coming down hard on your ryobi drill!
    They are actually surprisingly impressive. That said, they are crap compared to name brand stuff, but a homeowner probably doesn’t need much more than what a ryobi can do. Great bang for the buck. When I used to use ryobi, they got me through several years at my job, until I could afford to buy contractor grade stuff!

    I just bought the same one and found that the 12V drills just aren't enough to get the speed and torque through it. My Milwaukee 18V does a nice job with it. Also for Corrugated steel look into a 90 degree chuck adapter. It puts the drill on the same plane as the handle, up out of the way. Makes the setup a little cumbersome but does allow the needed space to follow the contours of the steel.

  • @poppopov9599
    @poppopov9599 5 років тому +2

    Thanks for the review, I've been interested in buying on of these. To be fair the manufacturer says that the drill should be 3000 rpm which is 'up there' for a power drill. I have the same model (blue) Ryobi cordless which max rpm is much less (great drill all the same). Anyway I bet the nibbler has much better performance at higher rpms. (but..Probably doesn't matter for the corrugated metal issue you showed.)

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  5 років тому

      Thanks for your thoughts. I felt the nibbler cut well even at the lower rpm that the Ryobi gave. Although, since I don't have a stronger drill, I guess I cannot see the difference.

    I'm just looking at that galvanized corrugated skirting, that is some of the toughest stuff that ever made in 60s down in the Florida Keys, it's very common for all mobile homes to have that around it, I seen that stuff last up to 70 years with all the salt spray, brought on by the hurricane seasons, and never rust out, If you throw a micrometer on that piece that you cut out compared to what they sell at Home Depot today you'll find is twice the thickness, it's not the tool, it's the metal, and by the way,that's one beautiful sunset. Great video,!

    You can rotate the nibbler head 90 degrees to avoid the drill fouling the corrugated sheet, or use a right angle drill attachment to place the drill body vertical at 90 degrees to the line of your cut. two options same outcome.

    I'm late to this party, I had a nibbler in my toolbox for probably 7 years, and finally wanted to use it. Your video was a great tutorial. I have the blue version of Ryobi Drill, and two of the newer monkey puke green Ryobi drills. All of them have the problem where the chuck will come loose on it's own. It seems that no matter how tight I try to get the chuck around whatever I'm using, it comes loose, I don't think it's a vibration thing, because it's happened when just drilling something easy. I have had it come loose especially with spade bits and circular saw bits (the ones from Lenox), I've also had them come loose with the Ryobi rapid change adapter for drill bits. Seems to be a flaw with the chuck. I've even had to have the chuck changed on the newer drill (it got locked open and couldn't open or close). Still has the flaw (or is it a undocumented feature?) Regardless, it's anoying for sure.

    I purchased a nibbler to cut a 4" round hole in my dryer. It worked perfectly quickly and accurately. The nibbler is extremely easy to use and very much not intimidating to use at all. They sell for as low as $15. Because the nibblers use is few and far between the cheapest one will probably work just fine.

    I've got a generic one that looks exactly like yours. It seems to me that the hex shank is actually for an impact driver (longer and has a waist on it) and not a drill. That would solve your problem of the vibrations shaking it loose. The drill chuck twists shut, while the impact driver chuck snaps on, offering a more secure fit, for sure.

  • @mark_torana

    Does the cutting head not rotate by loosening the Allen key so as to allow a different orientation of the drill for cutting corrugations? The cutting head should be steerable when slightly loose.

    I would have pulled out the pneumatic reciprocating auto body sheet metal saw due to the contours. Although, I did just come in from the garage after using a pneumatic nibbler to cut a small panel from the skin of an old natural gas water heater. The new-to-me water heater was a fantastic Facebook Marketplace find. But, it was lacking the little burn chamber viewing port cover. No biggy, I just made a replacement out of the skin metal of the old water heater.

    Thanks for posting this review. A simple thin cutting disk on a grinder for the job you just did demonstrating the nibbler would have been way easyer and faster. No drilling a 3/8 hole first....or many more to cut out the hole in the curved plate.... no sharp offcuts all over the place. A cutting disk also can cut thicker plate. The only 2 advantages i can see with this nibbler is that it can cut in a very short radius if you use it on flat sheet metal....and no sparks.

      Carl Brunberg Personally I use a Fein18v cordless while it's not as quick as a corded nibbler I think it allows better control for precision cutting obviously you don't have to set power up and a battery is good for 40-50 mtrs of cutting which is pretty good especially with 2 batteries on rotation.

    Nice review Sir.
    Loosing off could be that you did not screw the chuk hard enough to keep the Nibbler tight. Secondly vibration could also be because of the upwards and downwards movements of the punch againt the die in order to achieve the desired cuts.

    you should be able to change the cutting orientation of the bit so make it 90 degrees to the drill and have the drill vertical when cutting and you should be able to negotiate the corrugations

  • @1kreature
    @1kreature 2 роки тому +1

    You know you can turn the cutter insert to change the direction of cut?
    By rotating it 90 degrees it will allow the unit to align with the corrugations and turn with them. The drill axis would then be perpendicular to the cut direction instead of parallel with it.

    G'day from AUS. Thanks muchly for the review. I need to trim a corrugated steel roof to expose a bit more guttering, and was wondering how these would deal with the continual plane change of corrie. Since it's just one edge not two, maybe it will work better. I also still have a keyed chuck drill somewhere so hopefully it will stay put. I know you also said words after the demo, but I was totally distracted by your border collie. Cheers!

      Hello. Thanks for the comment. I think it should work ok for one edge like you mentioned. Some of the newer cutter heads can adjust to flip the cutting direction. Mine doesn't. Use your keyed chuck drill for sure. These keyless ones cannot get tight enough around the implement. Everyone loves my border collie. He steals the show a lot. Have a good day!

    Just a thought... If you held the drill vertically in line with the corrugations couldnt you follow it better?

  • @rbdogwood

    I found the same problems but if you approach corrugated steel left handed it is easier to cut the second half of the curve.

    ( as if loosening a screw instead of tightening a screw )

    • @CountryLivingExperience

      I don't think so. It is the vibration that effects the keyless chuck and shakes the tool free.

    Turn the drill wher4 the bottom of the battery is facing away from the metal being cut and it will make the corrugation easier to cut.

    Seems like the chuck attachment point is kinda short. Seems like a impact driver style fix point would keep it more secure in the driver but maybe they are not intended for use with impact?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  4 роки тому

      I am not sure they are designed to work with an impact. The chuck is definitely an issue. The vibration of the tool loosens the chuck pretty easily on these inexpensive drills.

    I got my car. I wanna put or weld sheet metal on my key hole because they keep breaking in by pulling back that little metal part right next to the key hole where you stick your key in to get to the metal rods inside my car door. I was wondering can I cut a piece thick metal to cover the hole the theifs have created using this tool?!

    Hey guy, the nibbler is a high impact tool which would have lots of vibration so you just needed to tighten the chuck more. I paid about $30 for mine and I cut a nice clean 4" round hole in my wife's dryer in like 30 seconds. I don't know did it even take that long? I was tripping becuz it was so easy to maneuver & follow my cut line that before I knew it I was done. Very intuitive and non-intimidating the edge of the cut wasn't razor sharp but I still lined it with duct tape. All in all I wish there was some other project that I could use this tool for.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  5 років тому

      Thank you. I understand that. As mentioned in the comments, my drill is of lesser quality and a chuck on a corded drill would be better.

      @@CountryLivingExperienceThere isn't anything wrong with your drill it just required that last extra twist to keep it from undoing itself. It happened to me with my Dewalt battery drill I had to make it extra tight and set it to a higher speed. Even with the little issue you had with your drill you cut that piece out for your fan imagine using sheet metal snippers that would have been a nightmare.
      But isn't this attachment wonderful? I bought it to cut that hole in my wife's dryer and it performed beautifully but now what do I do with it? Do I see any more cutting sheet metal projects in the future?

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  5 років тому

      I cranked on that chuck as hard as I could. It just would not grip tight enough with that Ryobi drill. Maybe a more quality drill or a keyed chuck would have done it. True this tool is awesome. I do like it a lot and it is versatile. There may be some more projects with it in the near future.

    Is it possible to rotate the cutting head 90 degrees? So then the drill will be pointed up or down while the cutter faces left or right.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  4 роки тому

      Potentially. The point of the video was to check if this was a good tool. It does not work great for corrugated as a angle grinder would work better. This is a good and fast tool for flat sheet metal. Just testing here.

    Interesting drill issue. Keyless chucks are just that way. They are friction locked and can hold a steady round bit or a hex, but when yo start beating on them with what amounts to an unbalanced eccentric load they will open up, doesnt matter who makes it. I personally prefer Makita for my "roust abouts" in my truck box, and of course Snap On at the shop. I believe that more power would have made it a better experience, such as a bigger drill or possibly a 120v drill. I know stringing cords defeats the convenience of a cordless, but will make that nibbler sing. NOTE: I am not knocking your Ryobi drill, i watched a neighbor build a small 2 room home addition with a set of the Ryobi cordless 18v tools. For the money involved they are certainly a viable alternative.

      @CountryLivingExperience  4 роки тому

      I hear you. I appreciate the thoughtful comment. The nibbler works great in my shop for many projects. I do mount it on a corded keyed chuck drill for all those jobs. I also finally was able to spring for a nice DeWalt to add to the collection.

    That did look tough to maneuver. What gauge was that skirting? I also noticed you used a Ryobi drill and I own that drill, it’s under powered. Wonder if a Milwaukee drill would improve the cutting ability. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    • @CountryLivingExperience
      @CountryLivingExperience  6 років тому

      That skirting is thick. I think it's at lest 14 guage. A milwaukee would help with the power I am sure. Unfortunately, in this application, I think the maneuverability might still be an issue. As that nibbler gets into the valley of the metal sheet it doesn't have enough room to come back up the other side. I think the nibbler works well and on any other metal surface it will be amazing.
