You Don't Have to Ride Jim Crow

"You Don't Have to Ride Jim Crow" blends historical artifacts with modern commentary from documentarians to tell the story of Irene Morgan, one of the nation's first freedom riders. In 1944, Morgan was arrested under "Jim Crow" laws for refusing to relinquish her seat to a white couple during a trip from Gloucester, Virginia, to her home in Baltimore, Maryland.
This documentary was produced by Emily Kim out of Jericho High School in Jericho, New York. It is the winner of the $2000 Outstanding High School Project in the 2022 Discovery Award competition.
