I love this god damn plane. Every day I'm reminded of how shitty it is that it was retired. This aircraft was the definition of POWER. It accelerated like a rocket. It had to because it bled a lot of speed in turns due to it's design and weight. You can hear this by listening to the RIO shouting off his altitude and air speed regularly. This plane gains speed like crazy. Part of why it was such a crazy good interceptor. Not to mention the fuel capacity and that radar and AIM-54 armament. :P This plane didn't really come into it's own until the B models showed up along with the GE 110 engines. This solved the compressor stall issue and the thrust issue. The original engines did not produce the thrust the plane was designed for and they were prone to compressor stalls at high angle of attacks, high yaw angles and side slips, etc. It just wasn't a good engine for this aircraft. The F-14B arrived with the newer engines and other new features like an RWR system(radar warning receiver). Unfortunately Dick Cheney axed this aircraft, calling it 1960's tech. Well, the F-16 is 70's tech and the current Block 50/52 F-16 is one of the most fearsome planes and certainly the most fearsome dog fighter in the entire world. Upgrades matter.
"Wings are moving, wings are moving" LOL That was funny. The wings move freakishly back looking flush with the side profile. Almost seems like the fighter is flying without any wings. The best fighter ever made. Nothing else ever compares to the Tomcat.
The most feared and the most lethal fighter. 99% of the adversaries turned around and ran away from it as soon as they got ID on it. US Navy only had 4 combat dogfights and it won all 4. Never lost in a battle.
