I cried with the story of the movie. Jake's love for her was so real. I waited for the couple's return. And when they gave the first kiss ... a lot of chemistry. They should have stayed together in real life. They would make a lovely couple. Josh Lucas is a charming man. What a handsome smile. Too beautiful. I fell in love for him.
You know i ask my wife " why you wanna be married to me for any how " and shes there with an idk look and ill answer her question for her even though shes supposed to say it but i do and it just throws her off when i tell her " so i can kiss you any time i want " that last scene...was my favorite scene when Melanie came back to jake and reunited

Kari Wiik As a full blooded straight male, i fully concur. Josh has an aura. just look at 1:00 how both ladies worship him 😂 And yes his smooth bass voice is part of the "package". many people underestimate the importace of a voice warm timbre, this goes for males and females.

I have been thinking about the sequel of "Sweet Home Alabama" for a long time. Melanie and Jake are still together, but tension grows when their daughter wants to go to college in New York. While she is there, she falls in love with Andrew's son. She brings her boyfriend back home concealing his identity. Andrew gets wind of what is going on and ends up flying down to Alabama to stop his son from following in his footsteps. However, Melanie's daughter has fallen so hard that she will not let her or his parents' schemes of trying to break them up, get in their way!

I would like a sequel and a prequel. Let's see their childhood, teenage years, pageants, teen pregnancy, wedding & miscarriage.
In some ways, a prequel would make sense, because you only get snippets of the childhood and what caused her to come home. Other than talking to "Bear", you don't get the story of what happened earlier.
Well, you could actually read the prequel in a young adult fiction. The original screenwriter has already published 3 books of Mel&Jake's adventures as teenagers.

Melanie and Jake didn't wind up together. Melanie was confused and needed some time alone but then she vanished. Jake waited but when he realized she wasn't coming back, he started looking for her. Her family blames him. He exfiancee blames him. He blames himself because she was on her way to happiness in NY. But maybe there's still a happy ending....
